top-right edge of my screen) is generally blocked. (it happens to work, but
generally not).

I would say that this is the same bug as 371195. I can confirm that
the back-light on my laptop never goes out. Though the screen saver
(whatever I choose) engages when it's supposed to, the back-light
never turns off, even after 40 minutes.

The owner was root:root, must have changed it by mistake when I put back
password from previous install of Ubuntu. Doing chown root:shadow
/etc/shadow and chmod u=r,g=r /etc/shadow fixed the problem.
Thanks for the tip. Have to be more careful next time I modify shadow
and password files.
So
It's really strange. If inline search not work with de-facto usual
standards (as wildcards, etc), maybe replace appearing of search line,
by appearing of fully functional 'Places - Search for files' applet?

Steps to reproduce:
Laptop (Dell Inspiron 2200 with an after-market AC adapter)
1) unplug AC power
2) replug AC power
Resulting symptoms: Frequently (probably 70% of the time)
1) Pulsing, Flashing, beating, flickering
acpi-support is unrelated to processing such events. If the power
management GUI becomes unavailable, but upower --dump still returns,
sounds like this is likely to be a gnome-power-manager bug; reassigning
there.

This was a problem only with my first install of 9.04 on my netbook.
Subsequently, I managed to get that version patched up to a workable
form, (I forget exactly how). 9.10 and 10.04 installed and ran without
any substantial problems. I only experienced this with netbook remix,
not with the
