Ahh, this could be a result of upstream taking my "well-known name" idea
from Ubuntu and mangling it further to only allow .module. Makes some
sense, I suppose, and certainly fixes the same bug I was fixing with our
local patch, just in a different way.

You can stop gnome-terminal from trapping Alt for the menus in
Edit->Keyboard Shortcuts.
I'm not closing this as the menubar not being technically disablable is
perhaps a bug (though, really, just a minor cosmetic inconvenience),

As an added note, killing the errant gnome-power-statistics process lets
me access it correctly from the icon again (and it seems to properly
close itself after that, at least, for now).
Next time this happens, I'll see if I can hunt down where the hung/sad
process is coming from before I kill it.
This happens for me on a laptop with a fresh Precise Ubuntu Desktop
install as well, I don't have any other *-desktop bits installed.
