At no point did I _try_ to start a new instance of the applet.
The three things I tried were:-
1. System -> Preferences -> Sounds
2. Single click the volume panel applet and choose "volume control"
3. In a terminal try to run "gnome-volume-control"

Seems like a regression, bug 33991 and bug 3626 explain the same
behaviour.
Basically if I suspend the laptop it goes to sleep fine, i then hit the
power (or shut/open lid) whereupon the laptop wakes then immediately

"gnome-power-manager --no-daemon" causes it to crash with a segfault
however "gnome-power-manager --no-daemon --verbose" causes it NOT to

With no power attached, but two batteries: gpm crashes on startup, and every
time gpm is invoked from the terminal.

This is unsurprising given the ALT key is used to bring the menus up. So
ALT+T brings up the 'Terminal' menu, and ALT+V brings up the 'view'
menu. So in effect you have ALT+T assigned to two things. Perhaps gnome-

be tempted to press "c" to copy text to the clipboard. However "c" is

Hmm. It appears that it's not just if I boot to an older kernel. The
desktops have returned (with the right names) in any kernel
(unsurprising really).
Looks like if you upgrade to edgy you drop to two desktops, if you then
increase the number up again, then restart x it gives your desktops the

have to because of bug 58469 not letting me get on the network I find
the workspaces revert to how they were - 4 of them named correctly.

This may be fine for a new install, but my laptop had four workspaces
which were named, after upgrading this has been reduced to two and the
names have changed from "workspace" to "desk".
Surely during an upgrade it should respect my settings?
