The Ubuntu side of this bug:
If a computer is affected then
a) in roughly 10% of the boots, there is not way to Shut Down or Log Out the
computer for a Newbie - actually to find a workaround you basically need a
working internet connection.
b) considering a) no responsible person would ever
Today the shut-down button became unusable because of this problem - this makes
it really hard for
inexperienced users to shut down their computers.
This smells like a major usability problem and should be taken serious.

Just an observation: If I right click on the menu (in the panel) then the issue

I just re-opened the bug since the icon has changed again - and the old issues
are back - desktop-icons are inconsistent and blurry again.
I suggest to replace it by the desktop icon form tango, which does not suffer
from these problems.

No, nautilus is not frozen. I can call nautilus from the gnome-terminal (on my
desktop) and remove the bookmark to the FTP-server. This is also the easiest
thing to do, to get back to a usable desktop (after a reboot).

When I open the file on dapper (using Evince) then rendering the file takes
