Just so happens that I trashed my system the other day and have a fresh
(formatted / partition - used same /home partition) install of 8.10.
I'm happy to report that this dd problem is no longer an issue - at
least on my system.

Yes it was. Any other drives shown would also have been mounted.
However the issue is NOT confined to USB drives. Anything above the
divider seems to be fair game although I have not yet seen Trash grab

As I see it it IS a bug!
Here's what happens (3 times since upgrade to Ubuntu 8.04) after login
as the final screen is being painted the mentioned error window appears.
In each case I've (1) taken a screenshot and (2) saved it to the desktop
intending to file a bug. Saving shouldn't work should

The string of ?? is generated as soon as % is typed.
I am not able to follow the temporary workaround. No matter how I edit
the template I always get the ? as part of the name and the
are appended. I don't seem to be able to remove the
template completely

This has nothing to do with hibernation! That's a whole 'nuther issue.
Suspend retains enough processor awareness to refresh memory and respond
to interrupts while hibernation dumps everything to disk and shuts down.
