I deleted all but the most recent entry for VLC (and Text Editor too)
and that has tidied up my 'Open With Other Application' list.

Recently when I right clicked on a media file there were two entries for
VLC in the menu which appeared (only one of which worked).
When I selected the 'Open With Other Application', there were seven
instances of VLC, only one of which worked
