Not sure if this is a gnome-terminal bug or a metacity bug, but in
11.10, when I try to alt-tab to another window from gnome-terminal, and
gnome-terminal is on top of the other window, gnome-terminal stays on
top even though the other window has the focus. Note that it only do
OK, I've been fooling with this file, and I think it's the problem with
the file compression that GIMP complained about ("Depreciated and
troublesome old-style JPEG compression mode"). I can import it into GIMP
and save each page as a JPG, after I wait until all the error messages
are done complain

The keyboard layout selected in GDM is passed to the Gnome session but
changing the setting in Gnome does not feed back to GDM. So it's one-way

Oops actually I just remembered how I inadvertently worked around the
bug on one machine. And I successfully applied the workaround on the
other. Here are the workaround steps:
1) Go through the process I outlined above to remove the no-longer-
wanted keyboard. [I'm not sure this step is required,

I second this, as it is very inconvenient when the panel is absent or
inaccessible for some reason. I finally managed to find the command to

It's looking like the change I made for bug 436936 might be the culprit,
but I am unable to recreate this issue at present.

You can not select audio hardware in Empathy for sip/ekig
I just tried to find a way to achieve this in Natty, and I can't... I
have an on-board sound card connected to speakers, and a separate USB
headset used for Skype/SIP and various other VoIP software like
Mumble... You can change the input device for an application once it's
running using Pulse Audi
You can specify the default sound device in sound preferences... what if
you want your VoIP calls to be on a device other than the default.

I don't have time to try and tackle this, sadly, but I did notice
something potentially useful:
Part of your problem could actually be a bug in update-manager.
update-manager tries to use the org.gnome.PowerManager interface to inhibit
sleep before it tries the freedesktop standard
