Killing wpa_supplicant resolves the issue, so I wrote the following
script which seems to work:

/etc/fonts/conf.avail/30-metric-aliases.conf
and fi ligatures suddenly appear.
For some reason, I had trouble building the package fontconfig-config,
but it looks like the problem belongs with that package.

After upgrading to 11.10, gdm no longer starts after boot.
If I switch to a VT with a getty login, login, and do sudo service gdm start,
it then starts up with no complaint.

You could chalk this up to bug #816646, it was trying to run lightdm
instead of gdm but there was no lightdm greeter installed.

When using the Back Evolution Settings.. for the Weekly Back Up, USED to
produce a viable file to restore from.
The file was about 11Mb in size, an has proved reliable when needing to
restore, or when
I have the same problem. Whenever I try to open any war files with the
archive manager, I only get the following error message.
Could not open FILE_NAME.war
Archive type not supported.
It happens after I upgraded from Ubuntu 11.04 to 11.10, and I didn't
have it when I used 11.04.
