I am sorry to report that even a fully updated (as of post timestamp)
version of Ubuntu 8.04 Alpha 4 with xserver-xorg-core at version
2:1.4.1~git20080131-1ubuntu1 (installed a few minutes ago) still shows
the problem.

There is no way to have the User list always shown on screen like most
IRC clients do (Pidgin, mIRC, HydraIRC come to mind).
The logic place to show that would be directly below the channel list.

This applies, e.g., if you want to connect to a bouncer with custom port
and password authentication, which you can do with the command:
/server someserver.net 666 username:password
There is no (graphical) way to set up such a server

I removed irc.ubuntu.net from the list of servers to automatically
connect to and I replaced it with the /server command I need to type to
connect to my bouncer since I can't graphically set it up.
When I fire up XChat therefore it will

It only seems to happen with some pdfs made with a pdf printer other
than OO.org.
I can send you an example of some pdf files that make it crash if you
