i845G and i830 run all ordinary applications, office, internet, internet
video, ... without Compiz.
Blacklisting Compiz for them is just fine with me, since I usually check
on install and set System Preferences Appearance Visual Effects None
anyway.
Of course I'm interested in running
As of Lucid Beta 2 kernel 2.6.32-21 and intel driver 2:2.9.1-3ubuntu5
still getting XID collisions with i845 video graphics. Must be soaking
up some processor cycles and slowing things down.

Moved them back to the right side from the left (wrong side for me)
by doing this thanks to iRock:
gconftool-2 --set /apps/metacity/general/button_layout --type string
menu:minimize,maximize,close
Among other things, with them on the Beta default left, I frequently
lose a line on the 1024x768
Hit this problem this morning on Beta 1.
Did a sudo aptitude -q update and a sudo aptitude -q safe-upgrade
now gnome panel is coming up (just wait til the next update!)
The -q is required for me to get around a glibc crash Bug #515525.

gnome-panel will not autostart on lucid
Using
Gnome Places (another partition) (folder) rsyn
didn't do anything. rsyn is an executable file (to do rsynch on daily build)
however the only way I can get it to go now is by using terminal and doing
sudo ./rsyn
The launch from Gnome Places doesn't work.
Any ideas how to track down
Karmic A5 CD on my i845 couldn't get by the first boot screen. Nothing
on the keyboard worked. The CD did boot and run on my two ati pc's so
the CD burn was O.K. A5 is the same as daily build 20090902.
Daily build CD 20090905 booted and died on the i845. I usually have to
put in nomodeset on
Guy,
Ubuntu developers simply blacklist compiz on 8.10 Intrepid and don't
start it on the affected processors. Same thing on 9.04 jaunty and 9.10
karmic. Compiz won't even start on the later ubuntu's for video drivers
that don't support compiz.
The CD's for various releases are easy to
This bug is similar if not the same as bug #406460 on this i845. There
is a batchbuffer dump, Xorg.0.log, xsession-errors, dmesg in #406460.
Note karmic A4 fails same way. Workaround is to use Driver vesa in
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.

[i845] Intrepid Compiz freezes on login for i845
On one of my pc's I get a random login, on this IBM ThinkCentre with
Intel i845 I get a black screen of death where nothing works except
power off.
sudo edit /etc/default/grub
remove:
splash
sudo update-grub
then reboot fixed it I think because it's been running for hours. See
my bug 396843
