Large (1gb) MPEG-4/AVC files seem to be the root of the problem. For
example the 1080p version of Sita Sings the Blues
(http://www.sitasingstheblues.com/watch.html). I put this file in a new
folder, opened the folder with nautilus, nautilus freezed after 20-30
seconds.

I am unable to provide a backtrace for nautilus, since gdb does not
react when pressing STRG+C. I tried to generate a backtrace with gdb for
another application (gthumb), STRG+C is working there. Anyway, I
attached the nautilus backtrace file, perhaps it helps to figure out
what is wrong about
Update: There seems to be no relation between the log-entries I posted
before and nautilus becoming non-responsive, since I cannot reproduce
the log-messages one day later.

Using 9.04, Totem/Gstreamer crashes when trying to play a Quicktime
movie. I tested this with BigBugBunny and also with random quicktime-
files from apple.com/trailers. This crash was also confirmed by other
users from ubuntuforums.org and ubuntuusers.de, using 9.04.
I am experiencing the same since installing Ubuntu 8.10, in hardy everything
was alright. The annoying thing is, that this codec-missing box appears at
every start of rhythmbox. Other mp3-players like audacious or banshee play
these files without problems.

Same problem with my dvd drive when selecting eject or unmount. After pressing
ok the drive ejects and the drive icon disappears. Maybe some kind of rights
misconfiguration of the /media folder?
