Hum. Evolution can use spelling -- I guess this seems like what you want
(spelling is not quite the same as a dictionary). If this is it, then
you need gnome-spell, plus aspell, plus whatever aspell-languages as
you need.
For example, I have it for French, English, and Portuguese.

I'm running Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn) and as far as I know I have had
this problem for several version.
