Hello Pedro,
It took some time for me to install Natty Narwhal, which I did by
upgrading from 10.04 LTS. Before the install, I tested gnome-
screensaver in the live CD environment to see if the issue occurred with
the standard display driver (possibly Nouveau): it does not. I then did

I've recently upgraded to Ubuntu 9.04 and have Xscreensaver installed
again, along with gnome-screensaver. Substrate is once again showing
its 'black background' behaviour. I've tried the following:
1. Running 'ps -eo pid,user,args' to see what arguments Substrate is run
with when being previewe
I was wrong:
I have written about correct activation through "lock screen"...but it's not a
rule...It works is some cases [I still don't catch the rule]...
another funny behaviour:
when You activate fullscreen preview of "substrate" screen saver and leave the
preview [which is correct] till activ

[OK in preview and black background when activated]
but, interestingly, everything is alright when the screen saver is
activated via "lock screen" applet added to gnome-panel

Hi Pedro,
I can't currently try it on Jaunty because I've got Intrepid, though it doesn't
occur with Intrepid, simply because the Xscreensaver hacks mentioned (Substrate
and others) are not available. If I upgrade to Jaunty, I'll try again.

I've noticed that resizing the preview window restores the white
background, temporarily.

done a few more tests.

the problem,
In the GNOME Desktop menu, I selected System/Preferences/Screensaver to bring
up Screensaver Preferences.
