The new 12 notebooks have powerfull processors and thus allows to use
the standard Ubuntu flavor instead of the netbook edition.
However the default 2nd panel is wasting place in height. Moreover, the
new displays are mostly with a 16/10 or 16/9 aspect ratio.
It is boring each new notebook user
The new powerfull notebooks processors and 16/10 displays should make
the question raise again.

Jérôme , Kindly read *all* the comments above.
This move has to be first discussed in the mailing list and we have a separate
UNR edition for this .
We can not be modifying desktop edition simply because netbooks have become
powerful.
For the use case you've mentioned UNR needs to be updated ,
Mac_v, I'm not speaking about netbooks but about laptops.
A 12 mobile computer has a DVD writer and thus is a laptop but not a
netbook.
Thus I need to install Ubuntu desktop edition.

subscribe to https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-desktop
and propose your solution to the list , so that this can be discussed.

phrase it differently:
Ubuntu's default desktop setup looks way too geeky,
it should look more like good 'ol familiar Windows. :-)
The average Ubuntu novice user has previous experience with MS Windows.
The standard layout
Ok I know this is not befitting of a serious and useful place like
Launchpad, but that seriously calls for a.ROFL :D
Klicki, you do not know what you have just done, you have opened a pandora's
box. I would suggest, run and do not look back :D.
Are you new to Linux or Linux forums?

The bug tracker is not really where to get discussions about such
changes, better to use some user lists
