Just to be sure, though : gthumb --version is showing GNOME gthumb 2.10.11,
right? (You seem to have a non-standard setup, just want to make sure you are
using the version from the repository).
Another question: Does it also hang if you call gthumb --import-photos
*without* having any camera,

GNOME gthumb 2.10.11
What's non-standard? All I've done is install Ubuntu, install updates,
and upgrade between Ubuntu releases.

Aha. This is a bogus bug. When attempting to debug bug 444300, I had
installed gthumb-2.10.11 in /usr/local. I've now deleted everything
under /usr/local, and don't see the hang that this bug refers to; now I
see bug 444300 manifesting instead.

version 2.11.2 and not in 2.10.11 (the Karmic version). Due to problems
