This is related to #72722
System-tools-backends produces an error if lsb_release isn't one of a handful
of values.
This breaks for downstream distributions.

This is the second time this happens. I am away from the computer for 15
minutes and then, when I am back, I find that Gaim has crashed. The
reason is a Segmentation Fault. This bug seems to be similar to 83316,
but I am using the official Gaim, not
Right, I see what's going on here. I edited my /etc/profile not to check
for these two variables.
I would say that was a misunderstanding on my part and those others who
removed the checks.
I have added the checks back in and everything works fine.

Unfortunately my problem occurs on the setup phase from the alternate
installation CD (latest daily build of feisty). Whether I do a command
line installation or a text mode, the installation gets stuck after

Unfortunately I can't get debug symbols for
/usr/lib/libpangocairo-1.0.so.0 so I can't find out if it's a cairo or
pango problem.
Do people still have the issue in Feisty?

I am sorry. There is not much I can do, then. I do not have a sequence
to reproduce the issue, and I cannot keep on running gnome-panel under
valgrind -- response times suck, and there are issues on gnome-panel and
any opened windows themselves (open windows are without windows control

to disable the offending screensaver in ubuntu just remove the execute
attribute from the files.
for gnome screensaver:
cd /usr/lib/gnome-screensaver/gnome-screensaver
sudo chmod -x *
for xscreensaver:
cd /usr/lib/xscreensaver
sudo chmod -x *
both
Making program robust to broken installations might be a good idea,
there is plenty of bugs happening on normal use that have higher
priority to be worked on though

New around here and to Ubuntu or I would have commented earlier on this
one before it was closed.
This still occurs as described on edgy 6.10 with all latest patches.
As reference, this does not occur on either my openSUSE 10.2 or Fedora 6
installations.
