I confirm Unix time has this bug as well. For the record, the solution
to have panel back was sudo mv /usr/lib/gnome-panel/libclock-applet.so
/usr/lib/gnome-panel/libclock-applet.so~ and then remove the applet
from the panel.

ok, this is on edgy and not on every installation. i could locate where
the problem is. If the File Browser Pane plugin is installed and
activated, gedit will check some files fom the recently used files list
(also remote files) on start up, thus delaying it badly.
enabling the plugin turns gedit

starting administrative applications as synaptic from the menu no longer

problem (with latest gksu). Higher versions don't work.

The panel was restarted after update..
I dont remember when i had pervious update.. but it should be not more than
one day..
About valgrind log - I woul try to do it about 5- 7 hours after this letter

(In Preferences-Behavior I have always open in browser set to false,
so I use the spatial Nautilus mode.)
When I open my Desktop, either from the Places menu, or my opening it
from Home, sometimes Nautilus will start hanging (CPU at 100%,
ok, found it in the build system, it's not yet in the repo. The gconf
update fixes the issue with the latest libgksu. You can close this bug
report.
