[Bug 39050] Re: gstreamer crashes due to BadAlloc response from xv

2007-06-07 Thread Fredrik Wendt
Adding the LinearAlloc option to xorg.conf did it for me (after turning desktop
effects off - that still produces a blank black surface in the window where the
movie should to be (anyone have a bug number for this one?)).
lspci tells me I'm using an Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/940GML Express
Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03).
The command run was totem --sync --debug leaftag-gimmie.avi and it's only
output ** Message: Couldn't initialize lirc. which is perfectly ok.

[Bug 70023] Re: Cannot print multiple copies of PDF files

2007-06-07 Thread simontol
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 67164 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/67164

I've found that it is an issue only with .PS documents.
I'm unable to print multiple copies of PostScript files, converting this to pdf
,for example with Scribus resolve the problem.
So I did some tests and found that some PDF files are instead PS files (looked
in file info).

Reported here too:

[Bug 29622] Re: Many web browsers not print the headers and footers.

2007-06-07 Thread John Willauer
Firefox 2.0.0.4, when run under Ubuntu Fisty 7.04 would print two almost
blank pages for each page printed. Both almost blank pages had a thin
line of dots at the top of each page, which later appeared to be
attempts to print the page's header and footer.

Firefox has two sets of margin adjustments, one for the page and another
for the sheet to be printed.

It appears that the default margin information Firefox sends to CUPS is
wrong.

To print both a pages header and footer properly on my HP PSC-2175 I had
to set the page and sheet margins as follows:

 File Print Setup Margins Headers/Footers
  Top: 0.5 Left: 0.5 Right: 0.8 Bottom: 0.8

 File Print Properties
  Top: 0.25 Bottom: 0.5 Left: 0.25 Right: 0.5

[Bug 85051] Re: Rhythmbox hangs when it can't connect

2007-06-07 Thread David McRell
same general issue. i can listen to different stations, add new
stations, and all will be fine. then, usually when switching to a new
station, it will hang on connect, after which rhythmbox becomes
unresponsive. it might be worth mentioning that to find new streams
i've been using Firefox set to open m3u via rhythmbox, then i manually
switch to rhythmbox and change the station. again, most of the time
that works OK. (no logs or traces, sorry)

[Bug 119044] Crossfading engine never starts playing

2007-06-07 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Running Gutsy, with rhythmbox 0.11.0-0ubuntu3.

I selected the crossfading engine (Edit-Preferences-Playback), then
restart Rhythmbox. While using the crossfading backend, when I try to
play a song rhythmbox appears to never quite start playing - the window
title changes and the play button gets pressed, but the song time
never advances and no sound is played.

I'll attach the log of rhythmbox --debug - the crossfading backend
appears to say not playing quite a lot.

[Bug 119017] confirming a regression

2007-06-07 Thread Francesco Potortì
I completely purged 2.10.2 and moved away all gthumb directories from
~/.gnome2 and ~/.gconf/apps, then reinstalled gthumb,
but nothing changed.

I restored the gthumb directories in ~/.gnome2 and ~/.gconf/apps and
downgraded to 2.7.9 and the thumbnails reappeared.

So apparently this is a bug in the gthumb package, and not in a related
library, and 2.10.2 is a regression from 2.7.9.

[Bug 119078] Excessive memory use with large images

2007-06-07 Thread Neilen Marais
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gthumb

In a directory with several (13) large (~45MB, 1x14000px, 8bit
grayscale) tiff files (scanned documents) gthumb soon uses excessive
memory and makes the whole system unresponsive (about 30s after starting
gthumb, 4 thumbnails displayed). This is on a fairly beefy machine (dual
core AMD, 2GB memory) running Feisty AMD64.

Memory use as reported by top:

[Bug 119081] nautilus doesn't preview audiovideo files

2007-06-07 Thread ashrack
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

In Nautilus when I am in ICON mode the video files are not previewed and
also when I hover the mouse over an MP3 it doesn't play music.

I tried both TOTEM-XINE, TOTEM-GSTREAMER since from what I have read U
need TOTEM to be able to preview video files in Nautilus. I have
xinelibs, gstreamer 0.10(all codecs), ffmpeg, mpg123, mpg321 installed

The movies are between 100 and 700mbs in size so that shouldn't be a
problem. And also I can play all of the video in TOTEM so it isn't a
codec issue.

What else can I do?

[Bug 112950] Re: after a while (five minutes) listening music, it closes

2007-06-07 Thread Phil Estes
Well, that was interesting--I'm not sure if I am having the same issue
as the original submitter, but I can at least give details on what I
found. I believe (and I'm ignoring other crash bugs related to
gstreamer or specific songs/files that crash..) in my case this problem
was exacerbated by a network that was in a weird state, and the fact
that this was my first time with rhythmbox with album art fetching
enabled (it wasn't in the standard edgy rhythmbox version).

I'll explain more:
1. I tripped over the fact that my network was partially misconfigured
yesterday during the time I experienced the problem.. rather than being down,
it was up with a valid IP on my home network, but I was VPN'ed into my work
account (which adds routes for all internal networks), but I did *not* have my
default route (through my home network gateway). Not sure how that happened,
but that meant as I was working away (on work networks) it wasn't until hours
later I tried to get to google and my webmail and found nothing outside my
companies network was reachable. At this point I had already gathered the
crash info.. since fixing this problem I can't generate the crash..
2. After fixing my network, I grabbed several debug sym debs for the memory
regions showing up in the backtraces (rhythmbox and gnome-vfs). This seemed to
point to the fact that rhythmbox was trying to use gnome-vfs to grab album art
(someone more aware of the code could verify this).. but I was able to verify
gnome-vfs is what crashed on a read(), and it was trying to reach a URL and
make a connection. I assume if my network had been really down (eg. eth0
ifdown'ed) it wouldn't be trying to do any of that, but with the strange state
my network was in, something couldn't handle the errors gracefully and ended up
in a SIGSEGV

Here is some relevant data:

Since I don't know how VFS works, I'm not sure if this is a worker
thread which actually makes the connections, or whether this is
something totally unrelated. However, if it is, I assume this is
supposed to be the thread making the connection to the URI.. I tried to
dig around and find the address, but I ran out of time to look into
this.. if someone wants the core file, let me know and I can attach.

[Bug 115652] Re: evince tries to open esd even if it is not installed

2007-06-07 Thread Ralph Janke
The machine I tested it with was first installed as kubuntu feisty. I
then installed ubuntu-desktop in order to also have the gnome desktop.

There is no error dialog in the GUI, but if it is started from command
line, the error messages are printed out there. After the sound package
is installed the error messages on the terminal don't appear anymore.

I did not uninstall any package.

[Bug 119081] Re: nautilus doesn't preview audiovideo files

2007-06-07 Thread ashrack
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: nautilus

In Nautilus when I am in ICON mode the video files are not previewed and
also when I hover the mouse over an MP3 it doesn't play music.

  I tried both TOTEM-XINE, TOTEM-GSTREAMER since from what I have read U
need TOTEM to be able to preview video files in Nautilus. I have
- xinelibs, gstreamer 0.10(all codecs), ffmpeg, mpg123, mpg321 installed
+ xinelibs, gstreamer 0.10(all codecs), ffmpeg, mpg123, mpg321 installed.
+
+ I also did 'rm ~/.thumbnails' and then did 'killall nautilus' but it
+ still will not bring me thumbnails for videos.

The movies are between 100 and 700mbs in size so that shouldn't be a
problem. And also I can play all of the video in TOTEM so it isn't a
  codec issue.

  What else can I do?

I attach a NAUTILUS config screeni:

[Bug 68300] Re: adding songs to ipod shuffle doesn't update iTunesDB properly

2007-06-07 Thread will_in_wi
Physical removal is Gnome Bug# 346434.

It seems RB is attempting to move the tracks to a trash can on the ipod
and failing because there is no trash on the ipod. The fail state is to
leave the file there. I think the file should just be deleted.

[Bug 119076] sortable windows/tasks list in gnome panel (wncklet)

2007-06-07 Thread Virtual DarKness
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

It would be really nice to be able to sort windows and tasks in the
gnome-panel windows list. It can be very useful when you use on a daily
base a set of applications like email client, internet browser, text
editor.. and you are used to find them in a certain position. Your hand
movement to the task button then becomes quite automatic but if you in
the meantime open some windows like couple of nautilus and gimp and
firefox crashes, restarting it will lead you to have the firefox
button at the end of the list and you'll always have to search for it..
so it would be nice to be able to drag that button back to where it was
:-) I don't use grouped windows so can't say if there could be the need
to drag and drop also the sub items of a task button (popup menu items)
..

[Bug 119017] More tests

2007-06-07 Thread Francesco Potortì
If I run gthumb dir from the gnome terminal the thumbnails are displayed and
no errors are given.
The problem happens when running gthumb on a directory using Nautilus: in this
case 2.10.2 does not display
thumbnails, while 2.7.9 does.
To diagnose this, I called gthumb on a directory from the context menu of
Nautilus, using a custom command:

to observe the message errors. And in fact in this case I see no thumbnails and
I see the following trace in the terminal.
The warnings, in Italian, mean unsupported operation.

[Bug 93613] Re: gnome-session: malloc() memory corruption

2007-06-07 Thread tvst
Ok, this is solved for me, but I'm not sure what did it. Browsing the
Ubuntu forums I found the problem may be a permissions issue. They
mentioned it could be the permissions/user/group on the .ICEauthority
file, but I don't think that was the case for me. I even deleted the
file (it comes back, so that's ok) but the problem persisted. So I
created a new user and saw that everything worked for him. I, then,
compared the everything I could (with 'ls -al') between my user and the
new one and couldn't find any differences. So I moved all my hidden
folders into a temporary folder with 'mkdir ~/hidden mv .* ~/hidden'.
Then I logged in and it was all good. Next I slowly started moving
things back from the hidden folder. I'll let you know which folder was
the problematic one, but if it's .gconf, i'm not descending into its
subfolders!

Hmm, your last comment suggests that gThumb is having trouble
understanding the symbolic link to the win32 filesystem.

For cd Desktop; gthumb Immagini gThumb needs to interpret the symbolic
link.

For cd Desktop/Immagini; gthumb . gThumb does not need to interpret
the symbolic link.

Apparently yes, thank you. If it is, then some things are to be noted:
- this is a regression from the 2.7.9 version of gthumb
- this is apparently not a problem with libraries, but with gthumb
itself, as downgrading to 2.7.9 solves the problem
- relative links are not necessary to reproduce the problem, as the link
  on my desktop is absolute.

[Bug 109579] Re: thumbnail problems with relative soft-links

2007-06-07 Thread Michael Chudobiak
Francesco,

If you know how to edit / compile the source code, I would stick some
printf's in libgthumb/file-utils.c:resolve_symlinks to see what is
getting mangled.

If this is a gThumb bug, it's probably in there.

The file handling code changed extensively between 2.7.9 and 2.10.2, so
it's not a surprise if there is a regression. The 2.7.9 version didn't
support gnome-vfs.

[Bug 119081] Re: nautilus doesn't preview audiovideo files

2007-06-07 Thread ashrack
My initial post already says the MPG321 is installed. And now I have
also install vorbis-tools but the MP3s still will not work on the hover
of the mouse.

Just tried installing Ubuntu Feisty Fawn into a VMWARE installation and there
thumbnail previews works for videos and also hovering over MP3 plays song. The
only difference that I can think of between my Feisty Fawn installation and the
one in VMWARE is that in VMWARE UBUNTU still hasn't been updated.
Will update ASAP and report back if this function will also break.

ps. What do U mean by 'I think there no video preview available. ?
Since I can confirm that thumbnail preview should work in nautilus for
video files.

[Bug 109579] Re: thumbnail problems with relative soft-links

2007-06-07 Thread Francesco Potortì
When gthumb 2.10.2 (errors, no thumbnails) is installed I have:
$ fgrep Exec `locate gthumb.desktop`
/usr/share/app-install/desktop/gthumb.desktop:Exec=gthumb %U
/usr/share/applications/gthumb.desktop:Exec=gthumb %U

When 2.7.9 (no errors, thumbnails ok) is installed I have:
$ fgrep Exec `locate gthumb.desktop`
/usr/share/app-install/desktop/gthumb.desktop:Exec=gthumb %U
/usr/share/applications/gthumb.desktop:Exec=gthumb %F

So I tried to install 2.10.2 and modified /usr/share/applications/gthumb.desktop
by changing %U to %F, but nothing changed.

[Bug 119172] The navigation bar isn't completly hidden in full screen mode

2007-06-07 Thread Vivien Taillandier
Public bug reported:

When playing a movie with totem (totem-xine), I turn on full screen mode
(double click or F).
There is no problem since I use the mouse and makes the bottom navigation bar
appear.
When I move out the mouse from the bar, the part where the video plays
disappear, unlike the others (borders).

To make the whole bar disappear, I press F twice.

This bug is particulary visible with 16/10 screens.

[Bug 119196] gconftool-2 reports memory corruption

2007-06-07 Thread Bogdan Butnaru
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gconf2

Hello. I've just updated from Feisty to Gutsy (using the update manager)
and during the update I've seen many warnings like the one below.

***MEMORY-WARNING***: gconftool-2[28570]: GSlice: g_thread_init() must
be called before all other GLib functions; memory corruption due to late
invocation of g_thread_init() has been detected; this program is likely
to crash, leak or unexpectedly abort soon...

I don't know which package exactly contains gconftool, but I suppose the
gconf guys would know.

I've seen the same error during a dpkg-reconfigure _after_ the update,
so it's very likely still a problem in Gutsy.

[Bug 119213] Icons in GNOME Panel 2.18.1 change order

2007-06-07 Thread Roberto Caro
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Using Ubuntu 7.04. With Desktop Effects selected

The problem I get is similar to:

50933. But the only icon that disappear is the GL Desktop. When it
disappear it is deselected in the System/Preferences/GL Desktop
configuration. When the option is checked off, the icon shows in the
GNOME Panel.

109239. But I do not change resolutions. It happens when I close an
application , like Thunderbird, I see the icons in the panel have
different place. I did not detect this behavior until I started using
Ubuntu Studio a few days ago. It did not happen when I upgraded to
Ubuntu 7.04.

Other observation: The icons on the left (I have: GIMP, Inkscape,
Scribus, Blender, Terminal, MySql Administrator, Tomboy, Amarok) of the
Applications pull down menu, have not changed place at all. Only the
icons to the right of System pull down menu have changed places or
disappeared (GL Desktop.)

[Bug 82322] Re: Arabic encoding not included

2007-06-07 Thread Martin Jürgens
I am talking about this patch:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=85207action=view

It adds the possibility to select Arabic (ISO 8859-6) in Evolution and
has already been applied to the version of Evolution in Feisty.

[Bug 119044] Re: Crossfading engine never starts playing

2007-06-07 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
No, they're mostly wavpack flac, and a couple of mp3s.

So, looking at that bug I tried playing files from each of those types, and
both the flac mp3 files played fine. Only the wavpack files fail to play.
All the wavpack files were encoded in Banshee using GStreamer, and play fine in
both Banshee and Rhythmbox without the crossfading backend.

When I get the time, I might go through and encode a CD into every codec
banshee supports, and see what plays :).

I'll update the description.

** Summary changed:

- Crossfading engine never starts playing
+ Crossfading engine never starts playing wavpack files

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: rhythmbox

  Running Gutsy, with rhythmbox 0.11.0-0ubuntu3.

I selected the crossfading engine (Edit-Preferences-Playback), then
restart Rhythmbox. While using the crossfading backend, when I try to
play a song rhythmbox appears to never quite start playing - the window
title changes and the play button gets pressed, but the song time
never advances and no sound is played.

I'll attach the log of rhythmbox --debug - the crossfading backend
appears to say not playing quite a lot.
+
+ Out of the three types of files in my library (mp3, flac, wavpack) I
+ only see this behaviour with wavpack files.
