I've been trying to figure out what the implications are for using the
usefree mount parameter.
Using the drive with some (which? Vista?) versions of Windows doesn't
update the filesystem's free_clusters, and Linux's vfat driver doesn't
know where the data is now written (if it is at all).

It's also really annoying with the compiz desktop wall in gutsy. You

/etc/init.d/mountall.sh is fine, and fstab explicitly include locale

My apologies - I'm running Feisty AMD64 with kernel 2.6.20-16-generic.
Nautilus version is 2.18.1.
I can definitely replicate this on any partition. I have two drives in
my system - my Linux drive and an NTFS drive. In either case, if I open

I still got the problem. It seemed to work because compiz crashed
silently.

Well, the panel problem persists after latest update, but now compiz is
crashing . I'm running an ATI Radeon 9600 video card, and with compiz
enabled, I have a most annoying flicker. It wasn't there 2 weeks ago.
But then again, the panel problem wasn't there either a couple of weeks
