[Bug 158544] Re: feature request: bring back menu option from 2.19.6.1

I third this request. I hate the entire new window look. I had to
remove deskbar applet from panel and switch to tracker.

This bug report is duplicate of mine (#159922,), note the submission
date. This one is just better explained.

[Bug 113862] Re: Volume and quality problems with dell inspiron 9300 laptop

2007-12-17 Thread sewmyheadon
I have the seen the same issues running Ubuntu on my Inspiron 9300.
Now, I'm running Gutsy and my main complaint with sound is that the mute
button on the front of the laptop doesn't mute the bass speaker by
default; only the main speakers, so it distorts or sounds funny and
there's no quick way to mute the machine without opening the volume
manager and dragging PCM control all the way down.

Even then, if the volume manager in Rhythmbox isn't all the way down,
you can still hear sound. Not good sound, but it's definitely audible
and not at all muted. Haven't found a fix yet.

[Bug 163670] Re: Epiphany crashes with epilicious synchronisation

2007-12-17 Thread Stéphane Travostino
I have the same problem with Ubuntu Gutsy, just updated.
This bug seems to be related to Debian bug #448685.
You can find the discussion here:
http://groups.google.com.ua/group/linux.debian.bugs.dist/browse_thread/thread/e7849a747dccb187

However, looking on Google I found this Ubuntu patch
(http://patches.ubuntu.com/by-release/debian/e/epiphany-extensions
/epiphany-extensions_2.20.1-2.slipped-patch) which seems to solve this
issue. Is it already applied to the current epiphany-extensions package?

Thank you.

[Bug 176886] Re: Inserting page number directly immediately jump back to old page

2007-12-17 Thread johanseland
Thanks for the quick reply!

It happens for example with the PGF 1.18 manual (attached).

I am seeing this both with and without compiz.

A little more experiments indicate that it might have something to do
with searching for text inside the pdf. It seems as if a search locks
a page, even if the search menu bar has disappeared. When it locks I
can not use Previous/Next either.

So the bug is probably more about having a visual cue that a search is
still in progress.

[Bug 176903] [Gutsy] Gnome panel freezes after scheduled filesystem chek on login

2007-12-17 Thread Gert Kulyk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Everytime after a scheduled fsck.ext3 run on boot, the first login into
gnome-session results in an unresponsive panel, mouse-clicking-events
are ignored while mouse cursor is still responsive. Killing gnome-panel
via terminal (started via ALT-F2) resolves this.

Additional Information concerning my configuration:

Stock gutsy gnome (fresh install just after final gutsy-release, not
migrated from prior ubuntu-versions) with all current updates, using
metacity, running on a HP NX 6110 Laptop with synaptics touchpad as
primary mouse device.

Filesystem of root and home-partition: ext3, pass values in fstab: 1
(root) and 2 (home).

The problem I face is, that I cannot find any useful information in the logs,
neither in ~/.xsession-errors nor in syslog.
Any Idea why this is happening?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems.
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

2007-12-17 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems.
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 176603] Re: Resizing audio to 1:1 causes sidebar to shrink too small

2007-12-17 Thread era
I consider it a bug that it resizes the sidebar at all, when what I
requested was resizing the video pane. Particularly if I just spent
some combination of physical and mental effort on making the sidebar
just large enough to actually see where I am in the playlist.

If I cared only about the current playlist entry, I should be looking in
the title bar, not in the sidebar, don't you think? And scrollbars are
a usability abhorrence, so it's actually more of a bug than a feature
that I can (and must) use them.

have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by
the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on
the crash report you wish to submit.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 176939] gdmsetup crashes in Romanian localization

2007-12-17 Thread Sergiu Bivol
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

System: Ubuntu 7.10 x64 updated, Romanian localization.
Steps: Sistem - Administrare - Fereastră de autentificare (System
-Administration - Login screen)
or # sudo gdmsetup.

gdmsetup show's up and disappears instantly.
The console displays an error message: Segmentation fault (core dumped).
The system log shows the following message:
Dec 17 16:38:40 B306-4 kernel: [ 4858.867964] gdmsetup[6560]: segfault at
0001 rip 2b2f4de07b30 rsp 7fff60f47858 error 4

I reproduced the same steps on the same system, after switching to
English and Russian locales, and there were no errors at all, so I
suppose this is a bug in translation. A very annoying bug, since it
discourages me to use my native language in Linux. Any ideas?

[Bug 176970] gnome- games package provides package gnuchess, but doesn't provide gnuchess executable

[Bug 176983] Screens and Graphics controls never save resolution or refresh rate settings (and is redundant with Screen Resolution controls)

2007-12-17 Thread Jordan Erickson
Public bug reported:

I have noticed that on 3 different Ubuntu Gutsy installs on differing
hardware (all of them various ATI Radeon video adapters, though), the
new System - Administration - Screens and Graphics controls seem to
never save either the screen resolution or refresh rate.

My most current experience with this was last night at a friend's house,
shortly after he installed Gutsy (new install). He has an ATI Radeon
9800 and a Dell P1110 CRT - he was confused that his refresh rate was
not sticking upon logout (after using Screens and Graphics). He
tried this with both the default ATI driver and the proprietary ATI
driver from the website (the Restricted driver didn't launch X at
all). He prefers 1024x768 @75Hz, which he set, multiple times in
Screens and Graphics - but upon logout/login, it reverts to 1024x768
@60Hz. He was able to make changes stick via System - Preferences -
Screen Resolution.

This should be filed as both a bug for Screens and Graphics as well as
counter-intuitive that both Screen Resolution and Screens and
Graphics exist in a default Gutsy install. How's a user to know which
one to change, and which one works?

Thanks!

[Bug 159434] Re: Unable to set legacy subpixel rendering

Hey, I uploaded a new devel Cairo with the corrected patch to my PPA.
Care to test it? I don't like the old style, of course, so I didn't.

But be aware that there's some other unstable stuff in my PPA. I suggest
to only enable the repo for installing libcairo2 and then removing the
source.
