I can confirm that this was readily reproducible in intrepid as stated
above. However this does not affect jaunty. Hence happy this has now

A friend of mine has had this same issue in intrepid, has upgraded to jaunty
but the issue remains.
He remarks it can also be fixed simply by starting xine. No need to play a
file, just start it.
It does appear to be random, though.

We talked some more and he found steps to reproduce it!
1) start xine
2) turn off the window borders (hit 'b')
3) quit xine
4) borders should disappear
starting xine with the -B flag also triggers it.
Starting xine without the B flag or quitting xine with borders enabled
brings the panel
I've tried twice unsuccessfully to do a stacktrace on evolution-data-
server.
It doesn't work on evolution-data-server alone, since e-d-s is called
from evolution.
It doesn't work if I identify evolution as the program to check.
Evolution opens and then my system freezes. I have to cold reboot
Of interest I just installed Jaunty on 23 April 2009 and this problem
has dissappeared, my Panasonic DMC FZ2 is recognized on connection.

not report any UDI for backlight on Samsung NC10. Apart from that, it would be
a bad idea to use hal in gpm xrandr functions.

I have the same issue.
The metacity process that you notice using 100% cpu is not the one you
are actually using. It is a process left over from an X11 crash, you
can 'kill -9' it.
Not really useful, but here is how I reproduce the X11 crash: Run Half
Life 2 in Steam (in wine). Exit the game.

version of the Intel driver (unfortunately, I'm one of those people
whose graphics systems do NOT play nicely with Jaunty's updated Intel

how to work without gimp, hey guys, i need it, since i am involved in a project

got my sound working again - thanks a million! I was screwing around with
settings trying to get the mic to work. I still cannot record from mic, but it
could be worse.

I can confirm essentially the same behavior on my laptop (Intel Atom
N270 @ 1.66GHz) running Jaunty 9.04

As mentioned upstream the problem is caused by the number of setting
under 'Preferences Mail Preferences General'. That is the only tab I
can find which uses the whole size of the dialog.
