[Bug 411504] Re: evolution crashes when trying to save an appoinmment after adding a reccurence

2009-10-09 Thread lelamal
Hi Robby. I know, I read all this. But when I hit Report a problem,
Apport started the whole procedure by saying first that it was
collecting problem information, then asked me if I wanted to send the
problem report to the developers, after which it opened the report a
bug page, and finally broght me here after I entered the title and was
asked whether any of several similar bug reports was actually the one I
was trying to enter. Being this my first bug report, I thought Apport
had already delivered my problem information to the developers, that it
was redundant to file a new bug, and to add my contribution here was
more than enough. Since you seem to imply it's not, I'm now filing a new
report for the same bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/447196. Many
thanks!

[Bug 447206] [NEW] In Karmic there is no easy way to disable the drums on gdm startup

2009-10-09 Thread Jim Braux-Zin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Like most nomad users of laptops, I often end up switching my computer
on in public places. I don't want unexpected sound to be heard. All
sounds in the Gnome desktop are easily deactivated, thanks to the
Sounds configuration item.

However, to disable the drums at GDM startup, you had to go to the
Login screen configuration item on Jaunty (which wasn't that easy to
find for new users), and it is much worse but in Karmic: gdmsetup had
been stripped down (which is a good thing) and doesn't show the sound
option anymore.

I would vote for simply disabling that sound by default, I can't see any
need for it.

[Bug 418690] Re: cannot add user account using gnome-users settings

2009-10-09 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
David: I'd have preferred you report a separate bug. There's absolutely
no guarantee you're experiencing the same bug, especially since error
reporting has been improved in the last version, hence the symptoms must
be different. But let's go on, since the original reporter has not
answered for a long time.

First, it seems very weird to me that you're not getting any error message,
because we're checking for that in 2.28.0. Please run
sudo killall /usr/bin/perl; sudo
/usr/share/system-tools-backends-2.0/scripts/SystemToolsBackends.pl -m

and without stopping that process, run 'users-admin' in another terminal,
reproduce the problem, and post both outputs here. Thanks!

[Bug 49579] Re: screen doesn't lock when panel menu is open

2009-10-09 Thread Paolo Montrasio
If I can add a word, there are no clear logical connections between
locking the screen and the screensaver. I don't use any screensaver but
I still want to be able to lock the screen when I'm away so I was very
surprised when clicking on Lock Screen produced no result. If that were
worded Start Screensaver I would have understood, but I'd also have
expected to see the screesaver start.

By the way, I'm on Jaunty and
$ dbus-send --print-reply --reply-timeout=100 --dest=org.gnome.ScreenSaver /
org.gnome.ScreenSaver.Lock

gives:

Error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name
org.gnome.ScreenSaver was not provided by any .service files

which might be a hint to another problem. I can see the previews of all
the installed screensaver but they never start even if I enable them.

[Bug 447039] Re: Gnome-terminal crash when looking at help/license page

2009-10-09 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 447226] [NEW] gdm does not start after bootup

2009-10-09 Thread Anand Kumria
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Hi,

This is not the same bug as #430494.

What happens is that the system boots and when gdm is started my screen
goes blank.

The keyboard does not respond to input, it is not possible for me to
switch to any other virtual terminal.

I can successfully boot into 'single' user mode and after (many) reboots
have discovered that if I include the word 'text' on the command line,
this prevents the gdm service from being started by upstart.

I believe there are a number of problems.
1. gdm hitting an assertion and dying
2. upstart noticing that gdm has died and respawning it (or not respawning it
-- hard to tell as the system is unresponsive in a normal bootup)

When I have the 'text' keyword on the kernel command line, I can boot to
normal multiuser mode. From there I can see try to run gdm, which
upstart runs. It logs the fact that gdm main process ended, respawning
and eventually gdm respawning too fast, stopped. I am, however, able
to successfully launch gdm (and then login and work normally) by running
'gdm' as root. Which places the problem squarely in between the
interaction upstart and gdm.

[Bug 447232] [NEW] Volume control only handle one of the sound channels

2009-10-09 Thread Rickard Andrinsson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

My volume buttons and the levers in apps that play sound only change the
volume on one of the speakers (Dell XPS M1710) Sound is also way too
loud at full volume, much higher then I've ever heard before from this
PC wich means distorsion and rattling and fear of destroying the
loudspeakers. The EQ setting on this sound must be seriously messed up,
as it sounds like the bass frequencies are very heavily boosted. I can
change the volume in the sound settings under Application, but it's
only on/off. Volume is the same until I move the lever about 80% to the
left, then it turns silent.

I don't know if this is a bug in the alsa, the gnome-volume-control-
applet or anything else, but this worked flawlessly in 9.04 out of the
box.

[Bug 442412] Re: Google Cal did not work anymore.

2009-10-09 Thread Kevin Safford
The result of various conversations with the Gnome people is that the
bug won't be fixed in Evolution 2.26. For Evo 2.28 they have replaced
Googlemail support with CalDav, and reckon it should work. It looks as
if Karmic has 2.28, but it's still Beta, and I won't be upgrading until
it's had chance to settle down. Do you know of any plans to upgrade
Evolution in Jaunty to 2.28?

[Bug 445674] Re: gdm login displays 12 hour (AM/PM) clock -- I want a 24 hour clock

2009-10-09 Thread Christian Rudh
I am using these locale settings:

LANG=en_US.UTF-8
LANGUAGE=en_US.UTF-8
LC_CTYPE=sv_SE.UTF-8
LC_NUMERIC=sv_SE.UTF-8
LC_TIME=sv_SE.UTF-8
LC_COLLATE=sv_SE.UTF-8
LC_MONETARY=sv_SE.UTF-8
LC_MESSAGES=en_US.UTF-8
LC_PAPER=sv_SE.UTF-8
LC_NAME=sv_SE.UTF-8
LC_ADDRESS=sv_SE.UTF-8
LC_TELEPHONE=sv_SE.UTF-8
LC_MEASUREMENT=sv_SE.UTF-8
LC_IDENTIFICATION=en_US.UTF-8
LC_ALL=

So english language and swedish for the rest. And GDM is still showing a
12h clock.

I checked /etc/init/gdm.conf and found:

if [ -r /etc/default/locale ]; then
. /etc/default/locale
export LANG LANGUAGE
elif [ -r /etc/environment ]; then
. /etc/environment
export LANG LANGUAGE
fi

So it seems that it looks for locale information first in
/etc/default/locale and then /etc/environment but then only exports LANG
and LANGUAGE. I don't know if GDM uses this information about which
clock format to use, but if so then shouldn't GDM use and export LC_TIME
also?

[Bug 177246] Re: Play time for Mahjong is wrong.

2009-10-09 Thread rodh
Well, In Sodoku, and majong game timer reports back game times
inaccurately, This am I was playing Sodoku and finished a puzzle The
timer said I finished the puzzle in 14min 38 secs (38 min 12 Secs
Active) The computer had only been on for 13 min total at the time.
And I did notice that the times in Majong are off also, I don't see it
as being a constant difference in time though it appears to be random
and at times appears fairly accurate.

[Bug 445674] Re: gdm login displays 12 hour (AM/PM) clock -- I want a 24 hour clock

2009-10-09 Thread Christian Rudh
I changed the gdm.conf file so the export looked like this:

export LANG LANGUAGE LC_TIME

then I get the following in GDM:

fre okt 9, 4:36 instead of fri oct 9, 4:36PM.

So it's more correct for a swede, and it dropped the PM. But the hours are
still in 12h mode, it should have said 16:36.
I tried exporting all the other LC_* too, but that didn't affect anything.

[Bug 447310] [NEW] 'Taskbar' at bottom of new GDM should match theme of Gnome panel

2009-10-09 Thread fubarbundy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

At the moment, if I select the 'Dust' theme under my user account, Gnome
panels are dark grey (near black). Changing the GDM theme (by running
gksudo -u gdm dbus-launch gnome-appearance-properties) to Dust results
in a light grey 'panel' at the bottom of GDM, with only the power menu
on the far right taking on the very dark grey colour.

 Wow.. Hats off..To fix one codec issue I have to change the entire OS? I
 never remember Microsoft saying such answers...To be honest Pedro, linux has
 long way to go inorder to compete with Microsoft. Instead of releasing OS in
 every 6 months why dont you guys think of releasing a solid OS in 2 years.
 Take 5 years or 10 years but it should be solid. I am from India. Not every
 one has internet connection. If we install Linux we need to have internet
 connection to listen to a MP3 song even though it is a widely used format. I
 dont remember Microsoft giving such an option. Linux is just a hype I would
 say. i have a quade core processor and my system runs extremely slow. And now
 its full of bugs. You tube videos wont play, DVD wont play, It tkes time to
 open a single apps. none of the answers has a valid solution. In windows th
 etroubleshootin steps are simple and it is universal. If you have bugs jus
 run the updates. But it doesnt have like the one which we have in linux.
Thanks
Jim

[Bug 447362] [NEW] dual screen setup: adding applets in the secondary screen fails

2009-10-09 Thread Leszek Koltunski
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Dual screen setup ( no xinerama, just 2 X screens ): if I try ( in the
secondary screen ) to add an applet to the panel, first the list of
applets correctly pops up in the secondary screen. But then when I
choose any of them ( I tried at least 5 ) and click the 'Add' button,
nothing will happen. The 'list of applets' dialog stays on the screen,
the 'add' button keeps being pressed, and the applet does not get added
in the panel ( neither the one in the primary nor the one in the
secondary screen )

[Bug 291853] Re: Weather service does not add entry if city is selected but Timezone field is Unknown

2009-10-09 Thread Philippe Gauthier
... or you could leave it confimed :) The problem occurs because some
locations use timezones that are defined by libgweather as obsolete,
though the library does not attempt to match the obsolete names when
searching for the time zones. For example, Montreal uses
America/Montreal, which is maked obsolete in the definition of
America/Toronto, but since libgweather does not parse the obsoletes
tags, it can't find the time zone.

If I have some time, I will make a patch for upstream.

more themeable, i would prefer a tool what could convert old themes to

But when I double click on the bug I get this message:

--cut--

The problem cannot be reported:

The program crashed on an assertion failure, but the message could not
be retrieved. Apport does not support reporting these crashes

--cut--

I'm attaching the file that was created from the crash in case it can be
useful.

[Bug 395770] Re: [Karmic] gdm login screen changed without request. Login preferences menu no longer available

2009-10-09 Thread Naxa
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 395299 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/395299

my themes are also gone, i feel it is very bad that they are not compatible.
there should be a tool to convert them. i hand-picked ~50 gdm themes what i
like and had them randomly come up. it really made me happy when i was sad it
was a good surprise. also i was happy i can use my computer _my way_ (not like
in windows). sorry but this was a reason to choose ubuntu and now it's gone -
new gdm needs some workaround to be more themeable, i would prefer a tool what
could convert old themes to new ones
i also post this here becouse i think the duplicate status is wrong

[Bug 446298] Re: cann't play movie player

2009-10-09 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

[Bug 444933] [NEW] blank CD not recognized by nautilus or gnome on macbookpro after upgrading to Karmic

2009-10-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After I upgraded to Karmic beta from Jaunty, on a MacBookPro 5.5, when I
insert a blank CD the icon in nautilus for the CD/DVD dissappears, there
is not popup reporting that a new blank cd has been inserted, and I
can't unmount the CD, neither from software (there is no icon to right
click and press unmount or eject), and pressing on the key for
unmounting at the macbookpro keyboard, nothing happens.

[Bug 447391] [NEW] No visual feedback when opening file with openoffice

2009-10-09 Thread Ric Flomag
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Steps to reproduce:
 * Open Nautilus
 * Browse to file that OpenOffice can open.
 * Double click the file or open it using the right click menu.

Observed behavior:
Openoffice starts and opens the file, but the user does not notice it until the
splash screen pops out.

Expected behavior:
Just like when opening a file with eog, evince or gimp, the mouse pointer
should change to the busy state, so that the user knows the action is in
progress.

Comments:
This bug might be a candidate for the papercuts.
I'm unsure weather it should be filed against nautilus or Openoffice, please
change the package if needed.

[Bug 447140] Re: totem crashes when streaming

[Bug 440600] [NEW] clicking on a recent document in the recent documents menu does not make it the most recent

2009-10-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hello, I tend to use one of my documents only by clicking it in the
places-recently used documents menu (I hope I translate it back from
hungarian correctly), since it's easier to do so than any other
solution. This way that exact document, no matter how often I use it
gets swapped out by other irregularily used ones, which are only assumed
to be used more recently becouse clicking any document in this menu
doesn't counts toward recent usage. Well, maybe there are other
conditions to be met, but this document gets swapped out, no matter this
is the only one I use several times a day.
