[Bug 460013] [NEW] Cannot set wallpaper. Just black screen intead of selected wallpaper.
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I cannot change or even set wallpaper. There is black screen instead of wallpaper. Selected wallpaper flashes for one second when logging out. After restart there is black screen again. I am ready to put here any listing or screen shot if necessary. I described this behavior in #459979 bug report. However, I am not sure if these bugs are related. The critical thing about this bug is, that it floods .xsession-errors from usually a few kb to megabytes. [Bug 459474] Re: [users-admin] Can't create new user accounts
Thanks! So far the only strange thing from the logs is the GID set to 0. I guess you did not change manually the user's main group, did you? Does the directory /home/invitado exist? What does running the command sudo /usr/sbin/adduser --gecos --disabled-password --home /home/invitado --gid 0 --shell /bin/bash --uid 1001 invitado say? If that fails, please also check that no group called 'invitado' or using GID 1001 exists, and try sudo addgroup --gid 1001 invitado sudo /usr/sbin/adduser --gecos --disabled-password --home /home/invitado --gid 1001 --shell /bin/bash --uid 1001 invitado -- [users-admin] Can't create new user accounts https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/459474 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-system-tools in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 460302] [NEW] Lose network access
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-nettool When I wake the computer up from Suspend, I have no network access. Nor am I able to recover access. This happens when I select Suspend manually or if it happens automatically from Power Settings. The only thing I can do is to restart the computer and everything works fine once more. [Bug 460306] [NEW] X crashes when changing to xinerama mode while compiz is enabled
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center I have a notebook with intel 945 graphic adapter, internal 1024*768 screen and an external 1280*1024 LCD. Compiz runs well in clone mode, also xinerama works when compiz is disabled. The problem occurs with every user (also with a newly created one). When compiz is running and I try to change from clone- to xinerama-mode using gnome-display-properities, the screen becomes black, only the mice is visible and working. When I kill X with Alt-Print-K, on my notebook screen gdm appears, but on the external screen there are only grey vertical stripes and the cloned mice. This behavior is visible after login, too. However, after I logged out again, it works fine. If I disable desktop-effects and enabled xinerama afterwards, xinerama works. If I try to enable desktop-effects again, I receive a message box containing Die Desktop-Effekte konnten nicht aktiviert werden.. The problem is reproducible, so feel free to ask further questions. [Bug 415023] Re: brightness is broken on MSI WIND U100
I tried the brightness applet workaround, and it worked. Then, I clicked on the brightness applet, but then I increased the brightness with the keyboard, and no trouble occurred. I also noticed that the brightness slider prevented the brightness osd from showing up. This made me question if the trouble wasn't related to the osd, rather than to the power manager. So I tried to click on the network-manager icon and then change the brightness while the network selection popup was showing. [Bug 460328] [NEW] [karmic] Gnome keyboard properties conflicts with console-setup
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center Situation: two layouts - US (default), Ru (second) Configuration was set up by sudo dpkg-reconfigure console-setup Wrong behavior #1: if I press set defaults in gnome-keyboard-properties, gconf keys are set to default values: /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd/layouts is [] empty - this is ok, because layouts are then taken from console-setup Everything works until reboot or restart of gnome-settings-daemon: /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd/layouts is then set to [us] only! so it needs to be reconfigured every time. Wrong behavior #1a: if I press set defaults, then /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/general/defaultGroup is set to -1, but default layout radiobutton in g-k-p dialog is still visible as set, which is incorrect and confusing. Wrong behavior #2: If keyboard settings are set explicitly in gnome: /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd/layouts is set to [us ,ru] then again everything works fine, but again only until reboot or restart of gnome-settings-daemon: /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd/layouts is set to [us ,ru,us] - second us layout appears out of nowhere. It happens because first us is followed by tab symbol:so instead of [us,ru] it sets [us ,ru] and upon gnome-settings-daemon start the second, but correct us is added. [Bug 400820] Re: gnome-volume-control-applet takes up to 40% cpu
I have moved to that comment, too. People tend to think of wine as running stupid and optional games, but it's the only way for disabled people to get speech recognition on Linux, and I refuse to give it up. And by the way, when alsa/wine runs speech rec, it runs it very well. The speed is great, the recognition is great, for text entry. Another thing, pulseaudio will always be a handicap to those who use speech rec, because of latency issues and the layer of overlap, speech rec will never run with pulse as well as it does with alsa alone. Speech rec is a much more complex program than any single music app, or Skype. Those of us who need it willingly make sacrifices to use it. -- gnome-volume-control-applet takes up to 40% cpu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/400820 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 32589] Re: Selection doesn't change when visiting a special location
Update: behavior in karmic koala RC: 1. Open File System in tree view 2. Open /etc 3. Click on /etc/acpi to view the contents of that directory 4. Click on /dev to view the contents of that directory 5. Click the little down arrow beside /etc to collapse that directory's tree view 6. Click the back button in the toolbar to return to /etc/acpi in the main file list pane. Now, /dev remains highlighted, which is still wrong, since we are back in /etc/acpi. 7. Clicking on /dev does nothing, even though we are not in /dev. (Should take us to /dev.) 8.
