I use Ubuntu Karmic on an Intel Core Duo, 64 bit Acer Aspire 5738
laptop.
According to the instructions on
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-desktop/2009-December/002337.html , I
followed these steps to add the PPA and upgrade:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-desktop/ppa
sudo apt-get
This seems to fix the behaviour for me:

It may only be a warning to you, but it's an issue that effects my
productivity. Here's an example: I'll run some command (for example,
grep) that produces a list of files, then go to edit them with gvim
oops, between this and 402188, my grep output has now scrolled off the
top of the screen.
This may be partially an upstream issue (whatever that means), but it's
partially a baobab usability issue.
There is no way to specify that certain directories, i.e., mount points,

It is normal for me to have my company's servers mounted. It's (a) slow

Odd. It seems to work now on my VM. I've attached the log, but it does
clearly indicate that it disables the built-in screen-saver after about
10 minutes. xset q confirms that the timeout on the X-Org screen-saver
was set to zero. I've restarted the machine with Gnome-screensaver
running in Daemon

I am not an Average user, I suppose, but this bug IS happening on a pretty
much vanilla installation, with changes unrelated to gnome-screensaver. Even
the mention of compiz is to help identify the problem, and does not introduce
it...
I do believe a single developer stumbling upon this might

After first installing Ubuntu 9.10 'monitor' worked fine.
After a few boots and attempting to download web software monitor

Initially rebooting fixed this but problem temporarily but seems to have

but
Wolfgang, I have that problem too, a few times.
It gets fixed if I restart the notification area from the Add to Panel menu.
But the battery icon problem doesn't get fixed even with that.
