[Bug 537907] Re: GCONF_SCHEMA_FILE_DIR incorrect in gconf-2.m4
Actually, since the m4 macro will be included in aclocal.m4 (or the like) in developers distributing source tarballs from Ubuntu, this is pretty ugly... as the default is probably correct for other distros (/etc/gconf/schemas vs /usr/share/gconf/schemas). So, I'm not sure what the fix is... perhaps some m4 logic to detect the correct location? Yes, it is still an issue in current Lucid, exactly like I describe it in comment #24, nothing has changed since. I'd like to emphasize that in the default case, gdm *shouldn't* modify the system-wide layout defined in /etc/default/console-setup. For me, that's XKBLAYOUT=us,gr. Yes, two simultaneous keyboard layouts are *required* for many countries. One reasonable way to do that would be to provide an additional default system layout entry in the layout-selection combobox. [Bug 435935] Re: Support Upstart
Please stay specific to the very issue I'm trying to tackle for Lucid: we won't get true Upstart support included before the final release. So let's discuss and test my PPA package on the basis of SysV scripts *only*. From all of your description, I can't see any issue that wasn't expected beforehand: we ignore Upstart jobs. SSH doesn't appear because it installs /etc/init/ssh.conf. Granted, it would be nice to be able to manage this too, and that won't be too hard, but that's not possible for Lucid. [Bug 537865] Re: ssh crashes nautilus and gnome-panel [lucid]
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. [Bug 401497] Re: wrong keyboard layout after upgrade with autologin
I'm attaching a script which should make the situation more bearable for system admins. To summarize the problem: = * In some countries, two layouts are needed by default. * Console-setup correctly supports that, e.g. XKBLAYOUT='[us,gr]'. * Gdm makes the wrong assumption that only one layout can be the system default so it only keeps the first one, e.g. [us]. That's broken behavior. A proposed fix for gdm, *without any UI changes*: = * In the login screen, there's a combo box with all the possible keyboard layouts. * Gdm could just add an additional, default entry there: [Use the system default layouts] * That entry should be selected by default. * If the user selected that entry, gdm should copy the system defaults from console-setup to the gconf keys (see the attached script). Until gdm is fixed, sysadmins could use the attached script like this: == * Copy it to /usr/bin/apply-system-default-layout * chmod +x /usr/bin/apply-system-default-layout * cat EOF /etc/xdg/autostart/apply-system-default-layout [Desktop Entry] Name=Apply the system default layout Exec=/usr/bin/apply-system-default-layout OnlyShowIn=GNOME; Icon=preferences-desktop-keyboard Terminal=false Type=Application EOF * The default system layout would then be applied to all users. But some users may need a different layout than the system default. Those users should disable the script from System Preferences Startup programs. ** Attachment added: apply-system-default-layout http://launchpadlibrarian.net/40864361/apply-system-default-layout -- wrong keyboard layout after upgrade with autologin https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/401497 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 448153] Re: Folder settings (metadata) lost after upgrade
After doing a clean install using the Intrepid CD (downloaded 2010-02-23), I still got this problem when mounting my homedir (inheritance from Intrepid). Possibly the issue is related to rebooting and loggin in on my user account before (all) updates are installed. But I guess for most users that will be natural course of action. I actually prefer to to do the updates before the reboot, but for that needed my wireless keys, and these are on the homedir - then re-boot and login is a logical solution.
