[Bug 537907] Re: GCONF_SCHEMA_FILE_DIR incorrect in gconf-2.m4

2010-03-12 Thread Nicholas J Kreucher
Actually, since the m4 macro will be included in aclocal.m4 (or the
like) in developers distributing source tarballs from Ubuntu, this is
pretty ugly... as the default is probably correct for other distros
(/etc/gconf/schemas vs /usr/share/gconf/schemas). So, I'm not sure what
the fix is... perhaps some m4 logic to detect the correct location?

Seems a shame to have to always pass --with-gconf-schema-file-
dir=/usr/share/gconf/schemas when compiling on Ubuntu.

[Bug 401497] Re: wrong keyboard layout after upgrade with autologin

2010-03-12 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
Yes, it is still an issue in current Lucid, exactly like I describe it
in comment #24, nothing has changed since.

I'd like to emphasize that in the default case, gdm *shouldn't* modify
the system-wide layout defined in /etc/default/console-setup. For me,
that's XKBLAYOUT=us,gr. Yes, two simultaneous keyboard layouts are
*required* for many countries.

One reasonable way to do that would be to provide an additional default system
layout entry in the layout-selection combobox.
In other words, *gdm shouldn't assume that [us] is the default*.

[Bug 537935] [NEW] gnome-power-manager doesn't hibernate - simply crashes

2010-03-12 Thread IsraeliHawk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

hey all,

after checking a bug reported in Ubuntu-IL forums, i noticed there's a
common problem with hibernating, specifically with gnome-power-manager.
Tested on more than one type of PC (from laptop to netbook) the computer
indicates the low battery, yet even though the configuration is correct,
it doesn't hibernate, but simply continues to work, and when the battery
is completely empty, it shuts down like a desktop computer getting
unplugged.

The user reported tried using Kpowersave, and found out it works much
better, controlling the configuration without issues..

cheers

[Bug 435935] Re: Support Upstart

2010-03-12 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
Please stay specific to the very issue I'm trying to tackle for Lucid:
we won't get true Upstart support included before the final release. So
let's discuss and test my PPA package on the basis of SysV scripts
*only*.

From all of your description, I can't see any issue that wasn't expected
beforehand: we ignore Upstart jobs. SSH doesn't appear because it
installs /etc/init/ssh.conf. Granted, it would be nice to be able to
manage this too, and that won't be too hard, but that's not possible for
Lucid.

So do you have a precise objection to this package considered as a
stable-enough quick solution for Lucid?

a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

 If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

 If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

 If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
 I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 537958] [NEW] genre tab displays numbers in magnatune catalogue instead of genre names

2010-03-12 Thread kristoffer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Most of the genres are only displayed as numbers in parentheses and not as the
name of the genre.
Some, like New Age, Classical, Rock, Electronic etc. are displayed (but
I do not know if this is for all artists within that genre or not), but most
are shown as for instance (10), (52) or (32).

Could this be a problem just for the Norwegian translation of the
program?

[Bug 401497] Re: wrong keyboard layout after upgrade with autologin

2010-03-12 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
I'm attaching a script which should make the situation more bearable for
system admins.

To summarize the problem:
=
 * In some countries, two layouts are needed by default.
 * Console-setup correctly supports that, e.g. XKBLAYOUT='[us,gr]'.
 * Gdm makes the wrong assumption that only one layout can be the system
default so it only keeps the first one, e.g. [us].
That's broken behavior.

A proposed fix for gdm, *without any UI changes*:
=
 * In the login screen, there's a combo box with all the possible keyboard
layouts.
 * Gdm could just add an additional, default entry there:
   [Use the system default layouts]
 * That entry should be selected by default.
 * If the user selected that entry, gdm should copy the system defaults from
console-setup to the gconf keys (see the attached script).

Until gdm is fixed, sysadmins could use the attached script like this:
==
 * Copy it to /usr/bin/apply-system-default-layout
 * chmod +x /usr/bin/apply-system-default-layout
 * cat EOF  /etc/xdg/autostart/apply-system-default-layout
[Desktop Entry]
Name=Apply the system default layout
Exec=/usr/bin/apply-system-default-layout
OnlyShowIn=GNOME;
Icon=preferences-desktop-keyboard
Terminal=false
Type=Application
EOF
 * The default system layout would then be applied to all users.
   But some users may need a different layout than the system default.
   Those users should disable the script from System Preferences Startup
programs.

2010-03-12 Thread imachine
Public bug reported:

It shows up correctly in preview, acroread prints it properly.

To reproduce:

2) Preview in Evince - company logo is here.
3) Print - company logo is not on paper.

I usually start my day long editing session with emacs file from there

Maybe it's not a high priority bug (I'd pay to fix some other issues... for
instance I can't suspend anymore since 9.04) but I'd appreciate if somebody
fixes it.

[Bug 448153] Re: Folder settings (metadata) lost after upgrade

2010-03-12 Thread Anton
After doing a clean install using the Intrepid CD (downloaded
2010-02-23), I still got this problem when mounting my homedir
(inheritance from Intrepid). Possibly the issue is related to rebooting
and loggin in on my user account before (all) updates are installed. But
I guess for most users that will be natural course of action.

I actually prefer to to do the updates before the reboot, but for that
needed my wireless keys, and these are on the homedir - then re-boot and
login is a logical solution.

So I think this issue isn't properly resolved until it gets into the CD.

[Bug 503718] Re: sudo password

2010-03-12 Thread roelderam
sudo is designed not to echo the password (or asterisks or anything else
in its place) as you type. If you type in your user password and press
return it should allow you to execute the desired command as root.

This solved the problem, thanks.

[Bug 533566] Re: [Lucid] Window controls are on the left side after update

2010-03-12 Thread Kayra Akman
Controls should be on the right, and Minimize button should be the left
most on of the three.

I really wonder what guideline the UI designers were following. If there
is nothing left to do but play around with these buttons, then some
config GUI should be provided so that it can be easy to mess up the
order if anyone wants to but not to fix it.

[Bug 531155] [NEW] gedit schemas is not registered during live session

2010-03-12 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: casper

Expected result:
 1. boot from LiveCD
 2. choose language 日本語 (Japanese)
 3. execute the below line in terminal
  $ gconftool --get /apps/gedit-2/preferences/encodings/auto_detected
 4. get the value below
  [UTF-8,CURRENT,ISO-2022-JP,SHIFT_JIS,EUC-JP]

Actual result:
 4. get the value below
  [UTF-8,CURRENT,ISO-8859-15,UTF-16]

The value is defined in /usr/share/gconf/schemas/gedit.schemas.
But $ gconftool --get returns C locale's value in any locales because the
schemas is not registered.
After running $ sudo dpkg-reconfigure gedit manually, we can get expected
result.

The schemas is necessary for auto detect encodings in each locale.

[Bug 531155] Re: gedit schemas is not registered during live session

2010-03-12 Thread Emmet Hikory
gedit should determine the filter set based on the user locale at
runtime, rather than based on the system locale at install-time. In
addition to fixing this issue, this would resolve issues where users
need to open text files from foreign locales with appropriate locale
variable adjustments being passed to gedit on initialisation.

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make

not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
