[Bug 355319] [NEW] Updates change Icons location on top start bar

2010-03-31 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Every major Update shuffles the Icons position on the top start bar. Even with
Icons locked and separated by separation bars, the location is changed just the
same. In view of the large number of Updates this is annoying.

[Bug 355996] [NEW] Power Management FAILS most of the time

2010-03-31 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Ubuntu Release 8.10
Kernel 2.6.27-11 (generic)

Power Management FAILS to perform as expected MOST of the time because

have a check box which would instruct both screensaver and power
management to IGNORE CPU utilization and shut of the screen as directed.

[Bug 552358] [NEW] Typo in the seahorse dialog on Lucid : Unlock Login Keyring

2010-03-31 Thread Tony Mugan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: seahorse

Just after login, a dialog pops up (titled Unlock Login Keyring)
asking me to Enter Password for to unlock your login keyring

I would suggest dropping the for from the message.

I presume that it is the evolution notifier in the Panel that is causing
this to be raised as it tries to login to the email server so it may be
a change to that rather than seahorse.

[Bug 263822] Re: RTL (right to left) support in terminal (BiDi)

2010-03-31 Thread Yaron
No, we don't have to open a bug for each app that uses vte but the solution
with the 'C' locale does not apply to dpkg since you shouldn't launch any apps
from there...
There are rare situations when apps launch graphical screens, very rare...

So the solution for the dpkg app is relatively easier than the one
suggested here (the problem is that each program launched through
Terminal will have the 'C' locale while in dpkg it doesn't really
matter)

Agreed?

[Bug 552375] [NEW] gvfsd-smb crashed while mounting smb share

2010-03-31 Thread mikbini
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gvfs

The share is password protected and the password is saved in the
keychain.

Apport said gvfsd-smb crashed on an assert but it (apport) doesn't
support reporting that kind of crash so I'm attaching the report left in
/var/crash. In /var/syslog I can't see anything about the failed assert,
in .xsession-errors I find only this:

checking for valid crashreport now
gvfsd-smb
** (update-notifier:2242): DEBUG: fire up the crashreport tool

I re-tried the mount and gvfsd-smb ended up burning 100% cpu which, I

[Bug 548754] Re: sshfs mounts cannot be written

2010-03-31 Thread jap1968
I have just this problem, but I want to add some information:

It is not a Nautilus problem, but a sshfs problem. If I try to make any
modification on the remote filesystem, that is not possible, even from
the console. Nautilus is just suffering the same problem as the rest of
applications.

I do not agree with the Low level assigned as importance level. In our
company, we usually work on remote filesystems mounted by means of
sshfs. We have just updated some computers from 8.04 to 10.04 and these
are now useless for that kind of tasks.

In my opinion, such kind of bug must be resolved before the final 10.04
version is out.

I have observed this bug in Ubuntu 10.04 beta 1 + updates to the current
date.

[Bug 551336] Re: no media files of any kind can play

2010-03-31 Thread Draycen DeCator
No problem! I'm glad you were able to get things working on your system.

As for playing the .wma files, you may want to try installing the
gstreamer0.10-plugins-* packages (-good, -bad, -ugly) and see if any of
those allow .wma playback (I'm not sure if they will, but doesn't hurt
to try).

I am also closing this bug since you were able to resolve the issue.

[Bug 552026] Re: Can not login to another new user

Thanks for the report. Have you checked that you're actually able to
change user passwords? Just create a test user, then run 'sudo passwd

are long enough, then you're experiencing bug 546874 (which as a

[Bug 552221] Re: volume icon is missing

2010-03-31 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
Well, pasting a link, expecting triagers will go through the whole
thread to understand your problem is hardly a nice practice. I see there
that your problem is solved, and you don't provide any detail about the
problem. Did you upgrade from Karmic? Was the applet present in the
list, only unchecked?

And the package is wrong:
$ dpkg -S gnome-volume-control-applet
gnome-media: /usr/bin/gnome-volume-control-applet
gnome-media: /etc/xdg/autostart/gnome-volume-control-applet.desktop
(ironically, the latter file is the one you should have on your system for the
applet to start on its own)

No, my patch fixes only the bug description, so the notifications from

I'm sure that the problem can be fixed in empathy-status-icon.c but
patch 35_check_actions_notifications.patch needs some additional work.
I'm sorry but I can't do this, because now I have no time.

[Bug 552221] Re: volume icon is missing

2010-03-31 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
Actually, in Ubuntu, you need to add the notification applet to the
panel (not the notification area). It provides the messaging and the
volume icon, that's why gnome-volume-control-applet is disabled (not
sure how, though). The bug is in the fact that upgraders are not
suggested to add it, but that may be a planned feature.

[Bug 504455] Re: Blanking a dvd-rw results in message: Unable to mount Blank Optical Disc

2010-03-31 Thread Marinus
Ok it seems a update installed some time between Sunday night and when I posted
#3 mostly fixed beta 1. I can now insert a used or new dvd-rw and brasero will
blank and burn it but after finalising the disk (dvd or cd) it gives me a
message that reads,
Please eject the disc from HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T50N manually.
The disc could not be ejected though it needs to be removed for the current
operation to continue.

I can eject the disk using Alt-F2 eject or the button on the drive,
inserting the disk again does not remove the message but pressing the
cancel button that's on the massage does and I get the attached log and
the disk seems usable.

I will test later this week with different media (dvd-r, dvd-rw and
dvd+rw) to see if it was just a fluke and check if other drives
correctly read the disks.

[Bug 552505] [NEW] Evolution opens and freezes. No folders shown

2010-03-31 Thread Chas IRONS
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

1. I updated Ubuntu 8.04 online yesterday as notified and today Evolution will
not respond after opening. No folders are shown.
2. Ubuntu 8.04 - the Hardy Heron - released in April 2008.
 Evolution Version 2.22.3.1-0ubuntu1 from Synaptic
3. I expected to fetch email from my ISP's POP server
4. Evolution froze showing no folders and did not respond to anything except
closing with X and then I had to force quit.

I rely heavily on processing my commercial emails and have many filed in
Evolution . Hope you can find a fix quickly .

[Bug 552146] Re: gnome-system-log crashed while manually deleting logs

2010-03-31 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

Error activating XKB configuration.
It can happen under various circumstances:

- X server with incompatible libxkbfile implementation

X server version data:

The result of xprop -root | grep XKB:
