Some updates. After creating the new user i've copied all files of my

discovered that the last lines in .bashrc prevent gdm from letting me

I have a similar issue too. Brasero worked fine this morning to burn an ISO
file to a blank DVD. This afternoon I have tried to do the same process to
burn a different ISO file and my laptop is no longer recognising media in the
drive. The media is the same type of Verbatim 4.7gb blank

Yes. The Fn keys bring up OSD, but functions differ somewhat. Volume and
brightness are controlled by repeating keystrokes, while in the original design
they were controlled by the scroll wheel. Four Fn keys are used instead of
original three; instant mute and going back to original volume

Well python-opengl and python-gtkglext1 are not dependences because they are
optional.
They are only needed for 3D, so they're not dependencies.
Chess should prompt to install them upon user try switch to 3D mode.

Maximus' undecorate feature might be at fault - disabled it in gconf-
edit appsmaximus and the issue seems to have gone away.
