@jdstrydom:
Did this happen after you unmounted or ejected something, like the USB stick? I
had a very similar to this bug error happen when I unmounted a internal hard
drive partition.

[Bug 630660] [NEW] clock applet should not have tooltips

2010-09-05 Thread Aaron Ahlemeyer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

According to: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/CustomStatusMenuDesignGuidelines -
Status menus do not have tooltips. This is for consistency of behavior:
most menus have never needed tooltips, so it is most consistent if all
menus are designed to not need them, rather than some menus having them
and some not.

Additionally, the clock-applet shouldn't change background color on
mouseover events. The other status menus do not.

1) Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
2) gnome-panel 1:2.30.2-0ubuntu0.2
3) Status menu/apps should not respond to mouseover events.
4) moving the cursor over the clock raises a tooltip Click to view your...
and highlights the clock status applet.

** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 257636] Re: Image ratio ignored

2010-09-05 Thread madbiologist
The image in comment #5 does not render at all with Firefox, rsvg-view
or eog, due to the linked images not being available, due to the
relative hyperlinks. Even if the hyperlinks were absolute, I'm not sure
if rsvg-view and eog can use HTTP.

Going back to the original bug description and using the image on the
reporter's website, I can still reproduce this bug with Firefox
3.6.9+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu1 on Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat alpha
3 updated to the latest versions of Firefox, libcairo2 and
libpixman-1-0. My librsvg2-2 version is 2.31.0-0ubuntu1.

[Bug 528474] Re: empathy crashed with SIGSEGV in tp_proxy_get_object_path()

2010-09-05 Thread John M
With the newest empathy I don't get the crash. It seems that it was one
of GNOME's usual upgrade inconsistencies. Not sure if the following is
still relevant:

Before upgrade, I deleted everything GNOME-related, in my home directory,
except for the following:
$XDG_*_HOME/telepathy
$XDG_*_HOME/Empathy
~/.gconf/apps/empathy
~/.gconf/apps/nautilus_actions
~/.gnome2/gedit
~/.gnome2/keyring
~/.gnome2/accelsgedit (file)
~/.gnome2/gedit-2 (file)
~/.gnome2/gedit-metadata.xml (file)
~/.gnome2/Vim (file)
~/.mission-control
~/.gtk-bookmarks (file)
~/.viminfo (file)
~.vimrc (file)

(I deleted any other directories/files not related to GNOME, except the
following: $XDG_*_HOME/exaile, ~/.beagle, ~/.filezilla, ~/.mozilla,
~/.opera, ~/.Skype, ~/.ssh, ~/.thunderbird, ~/.VirtualBox, ~/.xine,
~/.bash*, ~/.pam_environment, ~/.profile)

I did a clean install on the / partition (my /home partition is
separate). After the install, empathy worked, except that it always
crashed whenever I tried to access the history of conversations. But
after yesterday's update, I can no longer reproduce the crash.

[Bug 630514] Re: the window's size is too big

2010-09-05 Thread Bruno Girin
Confirmed on Maverick Beta.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: nautilus

- 1) flickr.com
- 2) upload image
- 3) the nautilus's window opened is too big, it's scaled after the file types
list but because there are many file types in the list the opened window is too
big (2 screens wide)
+ 1) log in to flickr.com
+ 2) click on You - Upload Photos and Videos
+ 3) click on Choose photos and videos
+ 4) a Nautilus file selection window opens
+
+ Actual behaviour:
+ The window opened by Nautilus is too wide as it's scaled to accommodate the
list of accepted file types but because there are many file types in the list
the opened window doesn't fit on the screen (2 screens wide)
+
+ Expected behaviour:
+ The Nautilus window is not wider than the screen and the list of accepted
file types use some form of ellipsis to ensure this is the case.

[Bug 630753] [NEW] gnome-screensaver activates while watching a movie in totem

2010-09-05 Thread Nick Moffitt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

I recently upgraded my laptop from lucid to maverick, and found after
rebooting that gnome-screensaver is not temporarily disabled by totem.
I'm uncertain as to whether this is totem's fault or gnome-
screensaver's, but somehow the two are not coöperating.

All you have to do to reproduce is set the screensaver timeout to five
minutes and try to watch a six minute movie.

[Bug 630812] [NEW] The latest Brasero update in Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick wants to remove rhythmbox-plugin-cdrecorder

Public bug reported:

A recent update in Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat to Brasero wants to
remove the rhythmbox-plugin-cdrecorder Rhythmbox plugin. This is
probably due to the fact that rhythmbox-plugin-cdrecorder depends on
libbrasero-media0 while with this update, the name of this package is
now libbrasero-media1.

[Bug 630817] [NEW] No way to make column width to auto-adjust

2010-09-05 Thread Guraknugen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Double clicking the right ”border” of the field head doesn't make the
column width adjusted to the actual file- and folder name lengths. I
couldn't find another way to do it either, except to manually click and
drag to the desired width. If I double click, it will automatically
adjust to a too narrow width, so I can't see the complete file names.
This is annoying when several files has almost the same name, like
MyInterestingFile0001.odt, MyInterestingFile0002.odt and so on, or even
MyFantasticSong.ogg and MyFantasticSong.flac, especially if the file
type column is not included.

[Bug 630836] [NEW] Only HD video out of sync with sound -- ref bugID 575389

2010-09-05 Thread psbh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Related to ongoing bug: Only HD video out of sync with sound
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/575389

Required codecs of gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad; gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly
and gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg are successfully installed -- reported by apt-
get (translated into En.) as '[codec] is already the latest version'.
and '[codec] is set to manual install.'

HD video-output, using 48000 Hz audio is stuttering, where-as 44000 Hz
isn't.

Trial-run with any GeekBrief.tv HD-video (stutter), opposed to any
Cnet.com Buzz Report HD video.

[Bug 630844] [NEW] Evolution clock applet is slow and the popup position is skewed

2010-09-05 Thread Dario Bertini
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

I've attached a video... the clock applet popup is now unusable: instead
of instantly coming up, sometimes it takes a second, sometimes 2... and
(not in the video unfortunately) sometimes is really really hard to get
it to show

on top of this, the position of the popup is completely wrong (please
note that in the video i recorded up to the top of the screen, so one
portion of the popup is unreachable), the problem with positioning
actually happened in 2 sessions, but in another session was showing fine
at the bottom of the screen (however, it was slow even if it was
rendered correctly)

ProblemType: Bug

[Bug 630817] Re: No way to make column width to auto-adjust

2010-09-05 Thread Bruno Girin
Confirmed in Lucid and Maverick.

** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu)
   Status: New = Confirmed

** Tags added: maverick

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: nautilus

Double clicking the right ”border” of the field head doesn't make the
column width adjusted to the actual file- and folder name lengths. I
couldn't find another way to do it either, except to manually click and
drag to the desired width. If I double click, it will automatically
adjust to a too narrow width, so I can't see the complete file names.
This is annoying when several files has almost the same name, like
MyInterestingFile0001.odt, MyInterestingFile0002.odt and so on, or even
MyFantasticSong.ogg and MyFantasticSong.flac, especially if the file
  type column is not included.

  Sorry for bad English.

+ Steps to reproduce:
+ 1. Open Nautilus
+ 2. Navigate to a folder that contains files with long names
+ 3. Switch the view to List View
+ 4. Double-click on the separator between the first and second column (by
default Name and Size)
+
+ Expected behaviour:
+ The width of the Name column adjusts to accommodate the longest file name in
the list.
+
+ Actual behaviour:
+ Nothing happens.
+
  Ubuntu 10.04
  Nautilus 1:2.30.1-0ubuntu1.1

** Summary changed:

- No way to make column width to auto-adjust
+ No way to make column width to auto-adjust in list view

[Bug 575389] Re: Only HD video out of sync with sound

2010-09-05 Thread psbh
Okey, ran back-to-yesteryears commands in fully installed Maverick
Meerkat 2010-08-31 daily alpha-release -- the above...

sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad
sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly
sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg
sudo ldconfig

It seems that the required codecs of gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad;
gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly and gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg are successfully
installed -- reported by apt-get (translated into En.) as '[codec] is
already the latest version'. and '[codec] is set to manual install.'
(manual... huh!?)

Totem finally ran the above video examples, Totem being as cranky at
starting as my old banger of a car: Still HD-stuttering in 48000 Hz
audio and as before, not at 44000 Hz audio.

I haven't figured out how to direct Apport to a specific bug as this
bugID #575389. Take a look at bugID #630836 and #630837.

[Bug 485727] Re: gnome-screensaver incorrectly monitors activity in virtual machines

2010-09-05 Thread bastafidli
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 49579 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/49579

I agree it seems like the same bug, but the side effect of this bug are
worse. With the other bug the screensaver kicks in as soon as you click
somwhere. With this bug, the machine allows you to use it for a while
either in VM or in Ubuntu. I can click around, I can type, etc and only
after a while the screen locks. This make this vulnerability worse IMHO.

[Bug 578733] Re: no way to change username for ssh tunneling

2010-09-05 Thread Vish
Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut should
be a small usability issue, in the default Ubuntu install, that affects many
people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't be addressed as part of
this project.

 - using sshis not a feature an average user uses, it is an advanced user
scenario. Not a papercut.
For further information about papercuts criteria, please read
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut.

Don't worry though, this bug has been marked as Invalid only in the
papercuts project.

And marking vinagre task incomplete too.

[Bug 392071] [NEW] GNOME, KDE, XFCE switch keyboard layouts in the reverse order than the one specified when doing so with the keyboard

2010-09-05 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When someone adds keyboard layouts and then switches them using the
keyboard, GNOME switches keyboard layouts in the reverse order than the
one specified.

Here's a testcase:
1)Install Ubuntu
2)Add the Greek keyboard layout in SystemPreferencesKeyboardLayouts and make
sure it is BELOW the USA keyboard layout in the list.
3)Do the same with the Icelandic keyboard layout and make sure it is BELOW the
Greek keyboard layout in the list.
4)Add the layout switch applet.

What happens:
1)When you switch keyboard layouts with Alt+Shift, the switch is
USAIcelandGreeceUSA (reverse order)
2)If you click on the language applet, the switch is USAGreeceIcelandUSA
(proper order)

What should happen:
1)When using Alt+Shift, the switch should be USAGreeceIcelandUSA (in the
testcase)

Additional information:
1)If this bug is confirmed with KDE of XFCE or another desktop environment,
please update this bug report accordingly.

EDIT: This bug happens also on KDE and XFCE

[Bug 630671] Re: wtf?

2010-09-05 Thread Micheal Harker
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks! Feel free to mark as New again when you have more info as WTF?
Doesn't describe a bug in detail.

[Bug 630930] [NEW] Huge memory usage when transferring many songs to iPod

2010-09-05 Thread Xero Xenith
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

On Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit, all updates applied. Used Rhythmbox to try and
transfer ~12GB of songs (about 3000) at once to a fairly new iPod
Classic 180GB. Ended up using 3GB of RAM (filling it up) and spilling
over to 5GB of swap space. System is hard to use when no RAM is
available, and it seemed to use more space as the transfer went on.

Expected outcome: Rhythmbox should NEVER use 8GB of RAM!

[Bug 630930] Re: Huge memory usage when transferring many songs to iPod

My mistake, it was a 160GB iPod Classic.

RAM usage did not go down again once the transfer was completed, nor
when the iPod was safely disconnected. It returned to normal once
Rhythmbox was shut down, however.
