[Bug 774698] [NEW] Wireless card takes too long to wake up after suspend
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-nettool My g'friend's laptop - Toshiba Satellite R630-141 - now has Ubuntu 10.10 on it. Did a fresh install of Natty and things are better. So there was something wrong with my upgraded system. Now I can see my calendar entries. But I do not have the GAL. After that it tries to open and then says The Evolution address book has died unexpectedly Iit seems to die after variable number of contacts (35 000 - 37 000) found. [Bug 593477] Re: Use VP8/WebM as the default video codec/format
You are assuming that they are no other patents than Google's on VP8. This is an unproven assertion, and some experts have clearly voiced their serious doubts. The VideoLAN project has an informal policy of not taking software patents into accounts when taking decision for the simple reason that: 1/ they are invalid in Europe, where the project is based, and 2/ there is no way to determine that a certain piece of code does not infringe any patent (you cannot come and ask the patent office for that kind of assertion). The VideoLAN project is a non-profit and it will not let its policy be dictated by the FSF or Ubuntu zealots. If you have a problem with that, you better take it up with the VideoLAN project directly than through Launchpad. ** Changed in: vlc Status: Confirmed = Won't Fix -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to empathy in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/593477 Title: Use VP8/WebM as the default video codec/format -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 556670] Re: Can't click on UI elements in gimp (intermittent)
I have the same problem in Gimp that the one described in comment #4: when using the pen, one stroke out of two is not working. But I don’t have any trouble with Inkscape. I’ve tried recompiling gimp 2.6.11 from source without results. I also tried 2.7.2, and still had the bug. I tried Gimp in Fedora 15 beta and didn’t add the problem so kept searching. I tried using GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS, having add to do that for Cellwriter to work properly but it made Gimp misbehave. I found that using compiz either in Unity (Ubuntu at gdm login) or with gnome (Ubuntu classic at gdm login) seem to cause the problem. When using KDE, or Ubuntu classic without effect (no compiz), the input is working correctly. As Fedora 15 beta uses Gnome 3 with mutter, in sound logical it would not be affected by the problem. [Bug 649809] Re: the session settings manager can try starting before the login screen one exits
I think I found the reason for the bug, however I don't have a satisfactory solution. [Bug 593477] Re: Use VP8/WebM as the default video codec/format
So in your country, both H.264 and VP8 are on the same grounds legally. Then why do you choose H.264 over VP8? 1-The VP8 format bitstream is final, and its patents are provided under an open license, so there is nothing left for Google to control, apart from developing/improving the reference implementation. Other independent implementations for both decoding and encoding exist. They don't relate to Google whatsoever. 2-Patent infringement claims have been there since eternity, and they're literally nothing but FUD. Where is the patent pool that was being put together to go after Theora? 3-Google said several times it has no intention to control the format and, for future iterations of the format, they called anyone willing to join them. However, why would companies and research firms submit their patents and ideas to the WebM project when they can submit them to MPEG- LA and collect massive royalties? 4-Lead x264 developer stated that, with enough work, VP8 can have equal quality to H.264. And on IRC, he acutally said it that VP8 can surpass H.264 in 8-bit given a good encoder. He is just saying that the reference implementation sucks and is giving the format a bad name. I would like to thank Google for their investment in cracking the MPEG- LA audio/video monopoly and for their trials in making a better, patent- troll-free world. Lastly, I don't actually think VLC is a recommended way to encode video. Therefore I don't really care if H.264 continues to be the default. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to empathy in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/593477 Title: Use VP8/WebM as the default video codec/format -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 774795] [NEW] gnome-terminal corruption when switching workspaces
You have been subscribed to a public bug: My box is a Lenovo T400 (4 GB RAM, ATI Radeon HD 3400). After I upgraded from 10.10 to 11.04 via Update Manager, gnome-terminals undergo a corruption when being redrawn under certain cirumstances. The system is fully patched. I use Gnome 2.32.1 with Metacity. In workspace 1 Firefox is open, in workspace 2 are several xterms (created with gnome-terminal --geometry=100x40). In one of these xterms vi is running. When I switch from workspace 1 to 2 with Crt-Alt-Arrow, the content of the xterm with vi is sometimes not redrawn correctly. In these cases it contains the stuff of the Firefox window of this screen position. I need to move the faulty xtrem just by one pixel, and everything is redrawn correctly. This is not exactly reproducible, it simply happens from time to time. I still try to find a pattern for this behaviour. lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 11.04 Release:11.04 apt-cache policy gnome-terminal gnome-terminal: Installed: 2.32.1-0ubuntu3 Candidate: 2.32.1-0ubuntu3 Version table: *** 2.32.1-0ubuntu3 0 500 http://ch.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status Please let me know if you need more detailed information. ** Affects: metacity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- gnome-terminal corruption when switching workspaces https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/774795 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in Ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 775019] [NEW] google contacts don't work after upgrade to 11.04
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution After upgrade to Ubuntu 11.04 I face a lot of problems with evolution. Before, with Ubuntu 10.10 it works perfectly. The first problem: I have over 1500 contacts in google/mail, but evolution shows only 700. Today it is worse. It shows no contacts at all. When I open contacts with web browser in https://mail.google.com/mail/...; I find all 1500 contacts still present. The second problem: When I want to close evolution, it become grey and stay in that condition infinitely so I have to kill it by system monitor. The third problem: I can not find mail files in my home folder. Before, I had folder .evolution with lot of folders and files. Now there is only two folders and few very small files.
