[Bug 792874] Re: metacity crashed with SIGABRT in raise()

2011-06-20 Thread Eliah Kagan
The stack trace here looks kind of like
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/metacity/+bug/792999/comments/5
in bug 792999, so perhaps this is the same bug as private bug 793981 (as
is bug 792999). However, a symbolic retrace would probably be necessary,
to be sure.

The stack trace in this bug is missing many symbols. Did this bug used
to have a CoreDump.gz file (for use in generating automatic symbolic
retraces) attached?

[Bug 792874] Re: metacity crashed with SIGABRT in raise()

2011-06-20 Thread Eliah Kagan
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 797078 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/797078

I just compared the stack trace here to the one at bug 797078, and this
is almost certainly the same bug. (Perhaps bug 792999 / bug 793981 will
also eventually be revealed to be the same as bug 797078.) Since this
bug has no CoreDump.gz, it's unlikely that it could be retraced to
reveal otherwise. I'm marking this as a duplicate of bug 797078.

@Ce de-Avillez
You're the original reported for bug 797078. Do you know of any information
that would indicate I'm mistaken? If so, please post here (and if you think
you're sure, please go ahead and unmark this as a duplicate).

@derrill wayne anderson
I had resubscribed you to this bug so you'd be notified of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/metacity/+bug/792874/comments/2.
Since this supersedes that, please feel free to re-unsubscribe yourself if you
don't want to receive notifications. If you're still experiencing this bug, you
may want to indicate that you're affected by bug 797078 (using the green This
bug affects... link near the top of that bug page).

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

[Bug 792999] Re: metacity crashed with SIGABRT in __kernel_vsyscall()

2011-06-20 Thread Eliah Kagan
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 797078 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/797078

Comparing the stack trace in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/metacity/+bug/792999/comments/5
to the one in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/metacity/+bug/797078/comments/2
shows that this is the same as bug 797078.

Perhaps private bug 793981 (which Apport retracing service had
automatically marked this bug as a duplicate of) is really the same as
bug 797078 as well.

[Bug 797078] Re: metacity crashed with SIGABRT in raise()

2011-06-20 Thread Eliah Kagan
I just marked bug 792999 a duplicate of this bug, after comparing
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/metacity/+bug/792999/comments/5
there to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/metacity/+bug/797078/+attachment/2168109/+files/metacity.gdb
here.

Apport retracing service had previously marked bug 792999 as a
duplicate of private bug 793981. So private bug 793981 is probably the
same as this bug, too. Maybe someone here with access to private bug
793981 could check (and if appropriate, mark it as such).

2011-06-20 Thread Eliah Kagan
If this still occurs on a fully-updated Maverick, Natty, or Oneiric
system, and you're not able to get a good trace using the above method,
please use sudo apport-retrace -g ...
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Apport#Tools) to automatically install all
debug symbol package that are relevant and available and start an
interactive gdb session where you can obtain a (hopefully better)
backtrace. (Replace ... with the name of the .crash file in /var/crash
corresponding to the most recent instance of this crash.)

[Bug 799272] Re: Oneiric: Delete key not working as key to delete file

2011-06-20 Thread Brendan Donegan
Seems like a bad solution to me. Sure they've gotten rid of a usability
issue for those with slippy fingers (I have very slippy fingers and have
never found this to be a problem, though not saying it isn't one), but
they've created one even worse for those who got used to just pressing
Delete (I would never have found this change if I didn't raise this bug)

Wasn't the original bug about it not warning? Why not just have Delete on it's
own warn and Ctrl+Delete do it immediately? Anyway, I guess I'll have to engage
with the Nautilus guys to get it fixed (or stop using Nautilus).

discussion should happen upstream rather

It is found that assigning the crtc to 1 by xrandr command can make
VGA output work, e.g.:

  `xrandr -d :0.0 --output VGA1 --auto --preferred --crtc 1`

marked the bug as affecting the gnome-desktop source package for investigating
if this is something to add in gnome-rr-* functions.

This bug (and the original report) is for the situation when the user

[Bug 762918] Re: Natty Screensaver freezes system after some period of inactivity

2011-06-20 Thread josechu
Much people may think that this is a memory or HD problem.

And some of them could buy another computer for this. Mainly people
with an older model.

If it is really a kernel problem as I said two messages above, they
might well wait for the (Canonical) update.

I hope this come soon.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs

grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

A temporary fix is, every few days (or when you swap space is nearly all
used up):

pkill metacity ; sleep 1 ; metacity

it saves one logging out or rebooting

[Bug 799733] [NEW] Fresh install of Ubutu 11.04 hangs with latest NVIDIA driver

2011-06-20 Thread William
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

A freshly installed version of Ubunto on a HP Media Center PC (aprox 3
years old) hangs at first start. The desktop background and menu are
shown and the mouse works but none of the menu buttons are active. Only
after activating the NVIDIA video driver version 173 (deactivating the
recommended newest version) does it start up properly. Also after
reactivating the latest NVIDIA driver in recovery mode the problem
reoccurs. Also, (but this might or might not be related) under the older
173 NVIDIA driver none of the 3D applications work. (Obviously I don't
know if they will work under the new driver)

Thanks,

[Bug 799749] [NEW] Cannot not see more than one chat room in a tabbed conversation window

2011-06-20 Thread Curtis Hovey
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

I open my irc chats in a single window. Empathy once showed each room as
a tab in the window. I can only see the first chat opened now (a tab
that is the entire width of the window). I can see from the indicator
messages that more than one opened, but I cannot navigate to them.
Closing the chat window is unreliable, but maybe I am actually closing
each room that I cannot see, so the widow closes only after I have
closed all the room.

[Bug 700092] Re: Cannot connect to server with Custom Location no matter what is entered i recieve the same error.

2011-06-20 Thread John
I also get the exact same error when trying to connect to a custom
webdav url eg https://servername/webdav/username/userfolder on
ubuntu(and mint as well) 10.10 and 11.04.

I thought the custom location is there for custom url's so there is no
valid format as such?

[Bug 799764] [NEW] Untranslated strings in Ubuntu-specific g-p-m patch

[Bug 799632] Re: metacity crashed with SIGABRT

2011-06-20 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.
However, processing the crash report to get detailed information for the
developers failed as the retracer did not generate a useful symbolic stack
trace.
Please try to obtain a backtrace manually following the instructions at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash and upload the backtrace (as an
attachment) to the bug report. This will greatly help us in tracking down your
problem.
