[Bug 206547] Re: Open (but do not raise) new conversation windows automatically
These empathy options don't seem to have any effect for me at all. Ubuntu 11.10, Gnome Shell 3.2.1, Empathy 3.2.0.1. "Open chats in separate windows" is checked, "Display incoming events in the notification area" is not checked. Contacts window is open but not focused. Somebody IMs me and the ONLY indication I get is the popup message at center bottom of the screen for a few seconds. If I'm not looking at the screen just then there is NO visible indication of a new message. The chat icon thingie in the upper right is grey as ever, there is no chat window opened. Only way I know of a new message is if I happen to put my mouse in the lower right corner to see the notification bar. I've tried it with "Enable Bubble Notifications" checked or unchecked. I've restarted gnome, I've rebooted the computer. Nothing I do changes the behavior as just described. What could I be missing?? (I'm having to use Pidgin because it does pop up chat windows for me. But even with pidgin running and empathy not running I still get hidden notifications in the hidden lower right bar, but they pile up forever cause I never have a reason to click them. So I'd LIKE to just use empathy, but not if I'm going to keep missing messages completely) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to empathy in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/206547 Title: Open (but do not raise) new conversation windows automatically To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/empathy/+bug/206547/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 206547] Re: Open (but do not raise) new conversation windows automatically
btw, besides the point of the preferences not working, I would be satisfied with ANY of the following when I receive an IM: a. chat window pops up and steals focus (lots of people don't like this, which is understandable) b. small NON-HIDDEN blinking icon somewhere (some people don't like this, which seems debatable) c. small NON-HIDDEN non-blinking icon somewhere that merely changes color -- even that's easier to notice than something that requires me to keep compulsively checking with my mouse (how can anyone seriously be against this?) This bug affects Intel 915GM (i915) too (IBM Thinkpad X41). I have turned off 'dim'. My screen is switched off after 10 minutes. In many cases it does not turn on again completely. I can only see a very dark picture of whatever should be on the screen. I can even jump between ttys and back to the desktop with no effect. [Bug 868032] Re: nautilus progress window marked skipped, not managed by gnome-shell
I have taken the liberty of changing this back to incomplete as it seems to be fixed in Unity but not Unity-2d. To replicate, in Unity-2d: Open nautilus and start a file copy operation going. Note that the nautilus launcher now shows two markers for the two windows, but Alt-Tab does not show the progress window and clicking the launcher icon again also only shows the main window rather than both. Using nautilus 1:3.2.1-0ubuntu2 and unity-2d 4.14-0ubuntu1~bzr780 (from daily ppa) on Oneiric. ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu Oneiric) Status: Fix Committed => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/868032 Title: nautilus progress window marked skipped, not managed by gnome-shell To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-shell/+bug/868032/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
