[Bug 883746] Re: cannot connect to ssh server

2011-11-16 Thread Kody Ivan McCarthy
I have the exact same problem. It is also preventing Deja Dup from
backing up my files.

My server is on my local network, and I have also tried remote
connecting from a friend's house, both fail with the same message after
10 minutes. In both situations, ssh and sshfs from the command line are
successful with no problems or delays.

"Error mounting location: DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply:
Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application
did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply,
the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken."

gvfs-mount ssh://user@myserver fails with the same message after 10
minutes.

[Bug 891455] [NEW] Empathy sets status to 'away' when resuming from standby/suspend

2011-11-16 Thread Andre
Public bug reported:

Empathy sets the status to 'away' after resume without respecting the
previous status.

Steps to reproduce:

1. set status to 'offline' in Empathy (e.g. via messaging menu in indicator)
2. send Ubuntu to standby/suspend to RAM
3. wake up the system

Result:

* Empathy's status is 'away'

Expected result:

* Empathy's status is still 'offline'

This is problematic because I become visible in instant messaging with
status 'away' without knowing it.

Using Empathy 3.2.0.1-0ubuntu1.1 on Ubuntu Oneiric with all updates as of today
installed. Upgraded from Natty about 4 weeks ago. Possibly related bugs: Bug
#544242 and Bug #674500 .

[Bug 891444] [NEW] Unable to browse bluetooh device: Connection refused (111)

2011-11-16 Thread Rafael Belmonte
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 11.10, fresh install.
When I try to browse a mobile phone via Bluetooth, I see this error:
"Connection refused (111)", and the device cannot be browsed.
I think the same error happened when I tried in Xubuntu (XFCE with blueman).
But Bluetooth works very well in Kubuntu (KDE with Bluedevil) where I can
browse, send and receive files from the mobile phone via Bluetooth, therefore
something regarding bluetooth is broken in distributions based on Gnome/Gtk.

Please try to work in this issue in Ubuntu, because nowadays there is a
lot of devices using Bluetooth: mobile phones, earphones, laptop mouse,
etc.

[Bug 206547] Re: Open (but do not raise) new conversation windows automatically

2011-11-16 Thread rg
These empathy options don't seem to have any effect for me at all.
Ubuntu 11.10, Gnome Shell 3.2.1, Empathy 3.2.0.1. "Open chats in
separate windows" is checked, "Display incoming events in the
notification area" is not checked. Contacts window is open but not
focused. Somebody IMs me and the ONLY indication I get is the popup
message at center bottom of the screen for a few seconds. If I'm not
looking at the screen just then there is NO visible indication of a new
message. The chat icon thingie in the upper right is grey as ever, there
is no chat window opened. Only way I know of a new message is if I
happen to put my mouse in the lower right corner to see the notification
bar.

I've tried it with "Enable Bubble Notifications" checked or unchecked.
I've restarted gnome, I've rebooted the computer. Nothing I do changes
the behavior as just described. What could I be missing??

(I'm having to use Pidgin because it does pop up chat windows for me.
But even with pidgin running and empathy not running I still get hidden
notifications in the hidden lower right bar, but they pile up forever
cause I never have a reason to click them. So I'd LIKE to just use
empathy, but not if I'm going to keep missing messages completely)

[Bug 206547] Re: Open (but do not raise) new conversation windows automatically

2011-11-16 Thread rg
btw, besides the point of the preferences not working, I would be
satisfied with ANY of the following when I receive an IM:

a. chat window pops up and steals focus (lots of people don't like this,
which is understandable)

b. small NON-HIDDEN blinking icon somewhere (some people don't like
this, which seems debatable)

c. small NON-HIDDEN non-blinking icon somewhere that merely changes
color -- even that's easier to notice than something that requires me to
keep compulsively checking with my mouse (how can anyone seriously be
against this?)

Yet somehow, the only scenario I am able to get is:

d. small hidden icon

[Bug 850749] Re: Display unreadable after dimming

2011-11-16 Thread Andre
This bug affects Intel 915GM (i915) too (IBM Thinkpad X41). I have
turned off 'dim'. My screen is switched off after 10 minutes. In many
cases it does not turn on again completely. I can only see a very dark
picture of whatever should be on the screen. I can even jump between
ttys and back to the desktop with no effect. Hotkeys for brightness
don't allow to increase brightness then. The only thing that helps is
going to standby (closing the lid, because I can't really see where I'm
clicking) and waking up, or killing the session (Alt + Print + K).

[Bug 891427] [NEW] Evince's behavoir has changed, now more cumbersome

2011-11-16 Thread Mark Garrow
Public bug reported:

Open the current file manager in 11.10. Hit F3 to split the screen.
Make sure breadcrumbs are visible along the top of the window. In the
split pane that *doesn't* have focus, try to change the directory up one
level by clicking on the bread crumbs. It won't work.. you have to have
focus in that pane to actually change the directory there. Previous
Ubuntu releases did not behave that way.

Evince is also not found in Alt+F2 by typing evince.. It has to be
Evince.. Filemanager or filemanager also brings up nothing.

And the lack of a "regression potential" attached to this bug. I'd like to see
some comments on what the danger is here, as to me, this seems like a clear
change in the way it works, and might cause regressions for applications which
don't expect them to be in this order.

Leaving it in the queue for now, but can somebody please add a full SRU
justification to the bug description?

[Bug 891113] Re: 'gnome-classic' does not allow for icons in top panel anymore

2011-11-16 Thread indium
I thought that something was missing in the panel, because I couldn't
put icons on it anymore (the gnome-classic 'no-effects' version). But it
turned out that you need the Alt key to drag icons into the panel. This
was probably in some manual that I never read.

I installed CloudSN a while ago, and I didn't notice it until now that
the problem started since then. After reading Jay S post (#7) it
occurred to me that maybe my "login" keyring wasn't the default any
more. So indeed I checked and the "login" keyring wasn't set as default,
after changing this, the problems was gone!!!

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to

having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

[Bug 891285] [NEW] Can't Change Directories in Split/Dual View

2011-11-16 Thread Carlos Moffat
Public bug reported:

Hi,

This is minor/wishlist bug: I used the split/dual view (using F3) quite
a bit. One issue I've noticed is that if I, say, have the left window
active, I cannot select the folder structure on top of the right window.
I have to first click on the right window to make it active and then I
can select any of the recent folders. This seems like a usability bug to
me.

Thanks.

[Bug 880952] Re: Evince prints gdk critical failings on console output

2011-11-16 Thread Povl Abrahamsen
The error messages seem to come from a call to gtk_widget_set_sensitive
in the callback function ev_sidebar_document_changed_cb - on line 518 of
shell/ev-sidebar.c, when it is called after a new document is loaded:

gtk_widget_set_sensitive (GTK_WIDGET (sidebar->priv->notebook), TRUE);

I'm afraid someone with more knowledge of GTK will have to look into why
setting the notebook to be sensitive triggers these error messages.

[Bug 891259] [NEW] application part "places" does not show popup window for selections

2011-11-16 Thread Mathilde Schmitt
Public bug reported:

I have the german implementation, where places is called "orte".
Clicking on that just jumps into the files display and doesn't bring the
popup window which was available in former version. So I can't insert
any domain or user names or passwords. No connection to desired place
possible and really annoying

This was because dpkg won't replace a directory with a symlink. Debian

Some more notes:
- you don't need to ssh to get this behavior. it is the only way i know of to
consistently reproduce the problem, however.

- if you change desktops and come back to the terminal, then the
contents appear OK.

[Bug 872841] Re: Nautilus fails to use gvfs backends when used over ssh

2011-11-16 Thread Christopher Barrington-Leigh
By the way, after intervening updates, it seems the problem doesn't
occur any more as originally described. Now when I try to launch
nautilus:

$  nautilus
Could not register the application: Error connecting: Connection refused

and if instead I try

$dbus-launch nautilus
Initializing nautilus-dropbox 0.6.8
** (nautilus:15129): DEBUG: Syncdaemon not running, waiting for it to start in
NameOwnerChanged
Initializing nautilus-gdu extension
Nautilus-Share-Message: Called "net usershare info" but it failed: 'net
usershare' returned error 255: net usershare: cannot open usershare directory
/var/lib/samba/usershares. Error No such file or directory
Please ask your system administrator to enable user sharing.

it comes up fine and I can view Trash etc normally. I guess I'll have to
look up what "dbus" is... It seems bad that I have to behave differently
if I'm not logged in locally, ie whatever happened to X transparency?

[Bug 877297] Re: Empathy doesn't login to Facebook account anymore

2011-11-16 Thread dj_jeff
1. yes, it is
2.
- Open Empathy
- Change status from "Logged off" to "Online", "Busy", "Not Available" or
something like that

- Go to Edit --> Accounts
- Delete FB account
- Create FB account
- enter your FB credentials
- Apply and let Empathy access your FB account
- Trying to change status again

App is left in "Connecting" status for FB account. Don't know whether it
will produce a session error or not. Just stopped after five minutes
nothing happened.

[Bug 868032] Re: nautilus progress window marked skipped, not managed by gnome-shell

2011-11-16 Thread Colin Law
I have taken the liberty of changing this back to incomplete as it seems to be
fixed in Unity but not Unity-2d.
To replicate, in Unity-2d:
Open nautilus and start a file copy operation going.
Note that the nautilus launcher now shows two markers for the two windows, but
Alt-Tab does not show the progress window and clicking the launcher icon again
also only shows the main window rather than both.

Using nautilus 1:3.2.1-0ubuntu2 and unity-2d 4.14-0ubuntu1~bzr780 (from
daily ppa) on Oneiric.
