2012-02-01 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

However, cycling through the modes with Fn+F7 never results in the

[Bug 924924] [NEW] the file copy dialog can become impossible to find

2012-02-01 Thread matteo sisti sette
Public bug reported:

When you copy files from a folder to another and the copy dialog appears
with a progress bar, it has a number of issues:

- In the first place, it is not treated as a normal window. This means
that it won't show up on the bottom panel in Gnome. Or if you have awn
in Unity like me, set up to show each window individually, it won't show
up on awn either. Also, atl+tab will never show it. This may be by
design but it is a wrong design.

- Second, sometimes the window will appear on the background, behind
other windows, but this may be because of the more general bug in Ubuntu
which happens with ANY new window

- Third, sometimes it just doesn't show up. Even if you minimize one by
one all the other windows, you'll never find it.

- If it does show up but you happen to minimize it (which you can
because it has a minimize button) you will never be able to find it
again, because of issues one and of the following ones:

- Fourth: if you click on Nautilus's icon in the launcher on the left of
the screen (Unity), there is even a show copy dialog option in the
context menu, which is there just to make fun of the user: it WON'T show
up the copy dialog

- If you click on the laucnher icon when nautilus is already on the
foreground, it will show you all nautilus windows to select one of them,
as it does with any other application, but the copy dialog is not among
them; this is I guess a consequence of the first issue.

- And last but not least, if you have minimized it once, it will never
show up again even after it has finished and disappeared and you copy
other files. You'll have to restart the computer to have it work again.
This may explain the third issue.

The first issue and its consequence were already there in 10.10, but the way
Unity works makes it worst.

On 2011-06-16T16:41:12+00:00 Simon McVittie wrote:

The right fallback from invisible is somewhat situational.

When you set your RequestedPresence to invisible, I think offline is
probably the right fallback; you wanted to be invisible and are willing
to sacrifice some connectivity to get it.

If your AutomaticPresence is invisible and you're connecting in order to
request a channel, the fallback needs to be Busy or Away: whenever you
go online with automatic presence, the important thing is that you're
online, and the fact that it's with automatic presence is secondary.

The other thing that AutomaticPresence does is that it's what is
requested if ConnectAutomatically is true and connectivity becomes
available, but because we don't have useful connectivity plugins yet
(see Bug #24762), that's not directly relevant right now. For the
eagerly go online when NetworkManager says we can use-case, I think
offline is the right fallback if invisibility is impossible.

Complicating this is the fact that on XMPP, we can't tell whether we're
going to be able to be invisible til halfway through connecting. Gabble
should grow some way to distinguish between invisible if possible and
invisible and I really mean it - Gabble can do the latter reliably
(even though MC can't), by disconnecting before sending initial presence
if it looks as though invisibility isn't going to work.

However, it needs to know whether to do that - for the about to request
a channel case, that'd be counter-productive. Perhaps MC could
temporarily insert {online-even-if-visible: TRUE} into the Parameters,
if supported by the CM, when putting an account online for a channel
request?

For bonus points, every time we go online MC could remember whether
invisibility works, so we can just stay offline next time we want to be
invisible.

[Bug 915940] Re: Windows open every time in the top left corner

2012-02-01 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it. We understand the
difficulties you are facing, but it is better to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. You can also find a valid support at
http://askubuntu.com or posting your question in the support forum of
your local Ubuntu's community. For help on reporting bugs, see
