[Bug 1042704] [NEW] Rhythmbox bricks my music player (Cowon J3)
Public bug reported: Description:Ubuntu quantal (development branch) Release:12.10 rhythmbox: Installé : 2.97-1ubuntu4 Candidat : 2.97-1ubuntu4 Table de version : *** 2.97-1ubuntu4 0 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ quantal/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status Whenever I try to transfer tracks to my MP3 player (a Cowon J3) with Rhythmbox, my player ends up bricked. I configured this MP3 player to use the mass storage protocol (MSC, not MTP). 1) I connect the MP3 player to the computer : it mounts as usual 2) I start Rhythmbox, Rhythmbox detects the MP3 player normally 3) I try to transfer (drag and drop) a few tracks to the MP3 player : Rhythmbox shows a porgress bar in the status bar, then stops 4) Still in Rhythmbox, if I click on Cowon J3 list item (left pane), it shows the tracks on the MP3player 5) I eject the player : Ubuntu throws me a write error, the player is unmounted. 6) If itry to reconnect it, nothing can be written again on the disk, rhythmbox (even after a restart) doesn't write anything on it after drag and drop, nautilus shows write errors. Some files appear with odd signs in their names, the file system switches to read only if i try to move or delete files, it globally seems corrupt. The MP3 player OS refuses to play transfered tracks. 7) I cannot format the player, disks utility complains (error message the disk stopped responding after initial wipe). After that, i have to format (FAT32, MBR) the MP3 player in Precise (Ubuntu 12.04) to get it working again. It works perfectly fine in Ubuntu 12.04, Rhythmbox or Nautilus transfers work fine, I can move and delete files. So I'm absolutely sure there is nothing wrong with this MP3 player. But somehow, Ubuntu 12.10 corrupts its file system when i try USB tranfers. Here is the function, complete with silly backwards loop. int jas_stream_gobble(jas_stream_t *stream, int n) { int m; m = n; for (m = n; m 0; --m) { if (jas_stream_getc(stream) == EOF) { return n - m; } } return n; } Since it doesn't seem to use the expected 44 bytes of this header, I tried removing the check. Note that when writing the equivalent icc profile, it does add 44 padding bytes, so someone hasn't read the spec properly... (i.e. either the padding is optional or it isn't and the file is invalid). Anyway, libjasper should never abort(), that is just plain wrong (and dangerous). Sadly removing the check just shifts us to the error cannot get tab table. Ok, that's all I have for now. Somebody is going to have to read the spec and see where libjasper is going wrong. BTW, I am running the 32-bit version, so this bug doesn't seem to be architecture dependent. cat /proc/`pidof thunderbird`/maps | grep edataserver a1ea2000-a1ee4000 r-xp 08:05 3411664 /usr/lib/libedataserver-1.2.so.15.0.0 a1ee4000-a1ee5000 r--p 00041000 08:05 3411664 /usr/lib/libedataserver-1.2.so.15.0.0 a1ee5000-a1ee6000 rw-p 00042000 08:05 3411664 /usr/lib/libedataserver-1.2.so.15.0.0 adb82000-adbfc000 r-xp 08:05 3410730 /usr/lib/libedataserver-1.2.so.17.0.0 adbfc000-adbfd000 r--p 0007a000 08:05 3410730 /usr/lib/libedataserver-1.2.so.17.0.0 adbfd000-adbff000 rw-p 0007b000 08:05 3410730 /usr/lib/libedataserver-1.2.so.17.0.0 I hope this helps and thanks in advance. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution-data-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1040839 Title: Thunderbird hangs accessing eds on startup To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution-data-server/+bug/1040839/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1040839] Re: Thunderbird hangs accessing eds on startup
Similar to guyster, I see 2 versions of libedataserver loaded - 15.0 and 17.0 - with thunderbird 15.0+build1-0ubuntu1. $ cat /proc/`pidof thunderbird`/maps | grep edataserver 7f85f4999000-7f85f49de000 r-xp 08:03 5511794 /usr/lib/libedataserver-1.2.so.15.0.0 7f85f49de000-7f85f4bdd000 ---p 00045000 08:03 5511794 /usr/lib/libedataserver-1.2.so.15.0.0 7f85f4bdd000-7f85f4bde000 r--p 00044000 08:03 5511794 /usr/lib/libedataserver-1.2.so.15.0.0 7f85f4bde000-7f85f4bdf000 rw-p 00045000 08:03 5511794 /usr/lib/libedataserver-1.2.so.15.0.0 7f860298-7f86029fc000 r-xp 08:03 5509708 /usr/lib/libedataserver-1.2.so.17.0.0 7f86029fc000-7f8602bfb000 ---p 0007c000 08:03 5509708 /usr/lib/libedataserver-1.2.so.17.0.0 7f8602bfb000-7f8602bfd000 r--p 0007b000 08:03 5509708 /usr/lib/libedataserver-1.2.so.17.0.0 7f8602bfd000-7f8602bff000 rw-p 0007d000 08:03 5509708 /usr/lib/libedataserver-1.2.so.17.0.0 For comparison, with (functional) 15.0~b1+build1-0ubuntu1 on my system, it looks like they are loaded in the opposite order (17 first): $ cat /proc/`pidof thunderbird`/maps | grep edataserver 7fa2ac66-7fa2ac6dc000 r-xp 08:03 5509708 /usr/lib/libedataserver-1.2.so.17.0.0 7fa2ac6dc000-7fa2ac8db000 ---p 0007c000 08:03 5509708 /usr/lib/libedataserver-1.2.so.17.0.0 7fa2ac8db000-7fa2ac8dd000 r--p 0007b000 08:03 5509708 /usr/lib/libedataserver-1.2.so.17.0.0 7fa2ac8dd000-7fa2ac8df000 rw-p 0007d000 08:03 5509708 /usr/lib/libedataserver-1.2.so.17.0.0 7fa2ace96000-7fa2acedb000 r-xp 08:03 5511794 /usr/lib/libedataserver-1.2.so.15.0.0 7fa2acedb000-7fa2ad0da000 ---p 00045000 08:03 5511794 /usr/lib/libedataserver-1.2.so.15.0.0 7fa2ad0da000-7fa2ad0db000 r--p 00044000 08:03 5511794 /usr/lib/libedataserver-1.2.so.15.0.0 7fa2ad0db000-7fa2ad0dc000 rw-p 00045000 08:03 5511794 /usr/lib/libedataserver-1.2.so.15.0.0 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution-data-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1040839 Title: Thunderbird hangs accessing eds on startup To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution-data-server/+bug/1040839/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
