[Bug 785631] Re: Rhythmbox Party Mode can't be exited in Unity

2012-08-28 Thread Adam Bruce
This should be a high priority bug as 'party mode' seems like a main
feature of Rythmbox and the fact it doesn't work with Unity will impact
many users.

When pressing the superkey, the Dash is shown, by you are unable to
press anything, it just clicks on Rythmbox behind it.

As a quick fix if you do go into party mode, press F11 to exit

** Summary changed:

- Rhythmbox Party Mode can't be left in Unity
+ Rhythmbox Party Mode can't be exited in Unity

[Bug 670085] Re: Clearlooks theme changes by itself

2012-08-28 Thread Vaclav Petras
Hi, sorry for digging this out but I have the same problem on Ubuntu
10.04. Human-Clearlooks randomly changes to something which is similar
to theme at the screenshot (Selection_001.png). For some windows only
button and icons are affected but in most cases window borers are
affected too.

For the first time simple start of Appearance dialog switched everything
back but after some minutes especially the squared corners appeared
again. For the second time change of the theme helped but not for
Nautilus even after closing all its windows (I suppose because it is
still running).

I'm experiencing this for one day.

[Bug 1042704] [NEW] Rhythmbox bricks my music player (Cowon J3)

2012-08-28 Thread Loris Zinsou
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu quantal (development branch)
Release:12.10

rhythmbox:
  Installé : 2.97-1ubuntu4
  Candidat : 2.97-1ubuntu4
 Table de version :
 *** 2.97-1ubuntu4 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ quantal/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Whenever I try to transfer tracks to my MP3 player (a Cowon J3) with Rhythmbox,
my player ends up bricked.
I configured this MP3 player to use the mass storage protocol (MSC, not MTP).

1) I connect the MP3 player to the computer : it mounts as usual
2) I start Rhythmbox, Rhythmbox detects the MP3 player normally
3) I try to transfer (drag and drop) a few tracks to the MP3 player : Rhythmbox
shows a porgress bar in the status bar, then stops
4) Still in Rhythmbox, if I click on Cowon J3 list item (left pane), it shows
the tracks on the MP3player
5) I eject the player : Ubuntu throws me a write error, the player is
unmounted.

6) If itry to reconnect it, nothing can be written again on the disk,
rhythmbox (even after a restart) doesn't write anything on it after drag
and drop, nautilus shows write errors. Some files appear with odd signs
in their names, the file system switches to read only if i try to move
or delete files, it globally seems corrupt. The MP3 player OS refuses to
play transfered tracks.

7) I cannot format the player, disks utility complains (error message
the disk stopped responding after initial wipe).

After that, i have to format (FAT32, MBR) the MP3 player in Precise
(Ubuntu 12.04) to get it working again. It works perfectly fine in
Ubuntu 12.04, Rhythmbox or Nautilus transfers work fine, I can move and
delete files. So I'm absolutely sure there is nothing wrong with this
MP3 player. But somehow, Ubuntu 12.10 corrupts its file system when i
try USB tranfers.

Could anyone confirm this with another similar device ?

[Bug 427100] Re: JPEG2000 thumbnail causes browser to crash

2012-08-28 Thread Timmmm
Wow, I remember finding this bug yeaaars ago and it still isn't fixed!
Anyway, the bug is in libjasper. I downloaded the latest version, and
here is what the jasper tool says:

$ ./jasper --input untitled.jp2 --output untitled.bmp --output-format bmp
cannot get header
jasper: jp2_dec.c:294: jp2_decode: Assertion `iccprof' failed.
Aborted (core dumped)

Terribly bad form for a library to call abort(). I haven't done any
testing, but my image does have an alpha channel, which agrees with
previous comments.

[Bug 427100] Re: JPEG2000 thumbnail causes browser to crash

2012-08-28 Thread Timmmm
Here is the code in question:

switch (dec-colr-data.colr.method) {
case JP2_COLR_ENUM:
jas_image_setclrspc(dec-image,
jp2_getcs(dec-colr-data.colr));
break;
case JP2_COLR_ICC:
iccprof = jas_iccprof_createfrombuf(dec-colr-data.colr.iccp,
  dec-colr-data.colr.iccplen);
assert(iccprof);
jas_iccprof_gethdr(iccprof, icchdr);
jas_eprintf(ICC Profile CS %08x\n, icchdr.colorspc);
jas_image_setclrspc(dec-image, fromiccpcs(icchdr.colorspc));
dec-image-cmprof_ = jas_cmprof_createfromiccprof(iccprof);
assert(dec-image-cmprof_);
jas_iccprof_destroy(iccprof);
break;
}

And in base/jas_icc.c:

jas_iccprof_t *jas_iccprof_createfrombuf(uchar *buf, int len)
{
jas_stream_t *in;
jas_iccprof_t *prof;
if (!(in = jas_stream_memopen(JAS_CAST(char *, buf), len)))
goto error;
if (!(prof = jas_iccprof_load(in)))
goto error;
jas_stream_close(in);
return prof;
error:
return 0;
}

And I'm guessing the problem is in jas_iccprof_load():

jas_iccprof_t *jas_iccprof_load(jas_stream_t *in)
{
jas_iccprof_t *prof;
int numtags;
long curoff;
long reloff;
long prevoff;
jas_iccsig_t type;
jas_iccattrval_t *attrval;
jas_iccattrval_t *prevattrval;
jas_icctagtabent_t *tagtabent;
jas_iccattrvalinfo_t *attrvalinfo;
int i;
int len;

prof = 0;
attrval = 0;

if (!(prof = jas_iccprof_create())) {
goto error;
}

if (jas_iccprof_readhdr(in, prof-hdr)) {
jas_eprintf(cannot get header\n);
goto error;
}

.. Looks familiar. jas_iccprof_readhdr():

static int jas_iccprof_readhdr(jas_stream_t *in, jas_icchdr_t *hdr)
{
if (jas_iccgetuint32(in, hdr-size) ||
  jas_iccgetuint32(in, hdr-cmmtype) ||
  jas_iccgetuint32(in, hdr-version) ||
  jas_iccgetuint32(in, hdr-clas) ||
  jas_iccgetuint32(in, hdr-colorspc) ||
  jas_iccgetuint32(in, hdr-refcolorspc) ||
  jas_iccgettime(in, hdr-ctime) ||
  jas_iccgetuint32(in, hdr-magic) ||
  jas_iccgetuint32(in, hdr-platform) ||
  jas_iccgetuint32(in, hdr-flags) ||
  jas_iccgetuint32(in, hdr-maker) ||
  jas_iccgetuint32(in, hdr-model) ||
  jas_iccgetuint64(in, hdr-attr) ||
  jas_iccgetuint32(in, hdr-intent) ||
  jas_iccgetxyz(in, hdr-illum) ||
  jas_iccgetuint32(in, hdr-creator) ||
  jas_stream_gobble(in, 44) != 44)
return -1;
return 0;
}

So I added some debug traces, and the problem is that
jas_stream_gobble() returns 0, not 44. Here is the function, complete
with silly backwards loop.

int jas_stream_gobble(jas_stream_t *stream, int n)
{
int m;
m = n;
for (m = n; m  0; --m) {
if (jas_stream_getc(stream) == EOF) {
return n - m;
}
}
return n;
}

Since it doesn't seem to use the expected 44 bytes of this header, I
tried removing the check. Note that when writing the equivalent icc
profile, it does add 44 padding bytes, so someone hasn't read the spec
properly... (i.e. either the padding is optional or it isn't and the
file is invalid). Anyway, libjasper should never abort(), that is just
plain wrong (and dangerous).

Sadly removing the check just shifts us to the error cannot get tab
table. Ok, that's all I have for now. Somebody is going to have to read
the spec and see where libjasper is going wrong. And also remove all
those ridiculous abort()s.

[Bug 1042414] Re: gnome-panel crashes

2012-08-28 Thread Robert Ristroph
Instead of having to click around and wait for gnome-panel to eventually
crash, I now have a repeatable way to crash it immediately, on the first
try every time - If I try to launch the Chromium web browser from the
Applications - Internet menu, it crashes immediately.

[Bug 847001] Re: Adjusting display brightness is very slow on several Dell laptops

2012-08-28 Thread Austin Hoppe
Thought I would post a confirmation a HP as well. Dv6t QE 7000 with
HD4000+GT650m Optimus and Ubuntu 12.04 x64, this same issues is
noticeable from a clean install all the way to installing Bumblebee.
Adjusting brightness via the brightness and lock window introduces lag
only momentarily and while the brightness is actually changing.
Adjusting via the laptop's keyboard has prolonged (10s?) effects on the
mouse cursor and delay to the on-screen display pop-up.

[Bug 958392] Re: scroll on workspace swicher doesn't change workspace

I really should read bug reports better: I was testing this on Gnome
Classic + Compiz.

On Gnome Classic No Effects, i.e. Metacity, the backported 3.4.2
libwnck-3 works *perfectly*, mouse wheel on pager and tasklist changes
just like in the gnome 2 days.

[Bug 968688] Re: Inability to use the Meta key in gnome-terminal (probably related to invoking the HUD?)

2012-08-28 Thread Edward Donovan
Great! That drove me crazy until I found the option. I guess was
looking under Preferences, not Keyboard Shortcuts. It sure could be
easier to find. But I guess I'm not going to make an argument to
upstream, 'cause I don't have a clear idea what would be best.

Glad to help. :)

[Bug 1041824] Re: IRC support is broken

2012-08-28 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Ken, I believe I fixed the bug for -irc by depending on telepathy-idle
and pushed the change to the desktop branch. Could you check through the
other account-plugin's to see if they need extra telepathy depends too?
I don't remember offhand the various telepathy plugins.

[Bug 1041824] Re: IRC support is broken

2012-08-28 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Kai, try installing telepathy-idle.

At this point, it sounds like the Desktop Team doesn't want to include
the IRC plugin by default as they believe there are better IRC clients
available in Software Center. They also consider IRC to be a tool for
technical users or developers and doesn't need to be in the default
install.

Mh understandable somehow, but still it used to be supported before and
now it isn't anymore..

[Bug 1004276] Re: The properties window expands extremely

2012-08-28 Thread Lucio
** Description changed:

- I opened the propierties of a image faile and Description of the file
- was too long and the window is expanded to display the information
- instead of inserting end of files.
+ When I open the properties of an image file, there are times when the
+ size of this window was so long that this goes out of display range.
+ This event is due to an issue on the IMAGE label, this one has a lot of
+ information, such as size, camera model, etc. One of this information is
+ Description and when Description length is too long the window is
+ adapted instead of inserting EOF (End Of Line).

I did the cat command mentioned above, and here are my results. BTW, I
am running the 32-bit version, so this bug doesn't seem to be
architecture dependent.

[Bug 1040839] Re: Thunderbird hangs accessing eds on startup

2012-08-28 Thread Steve Magoun
Similar to guyster, I see 2 versions of libedataserver loaded - 15.0 and
17.0 - with thunderbird 15.0+build1-0ubuntu1.

$ cat /proc/`pidof thunderbird`/maps | grep edataserver
7f85f4999000-7f85f49de000 r-xp  08:03 5511794

For comparison, with (functional) 15.0~b1+build1-0ubuntu1 on my system, it
