Not having launchpad-integration is not really a good reason to crash,
so maybe the ubuntu patch should be updated to try... except on the
ImportError and simply don't use launchpadlib integration in case it can
not be imported.

There is a workaround for this. I used to use this on Debian with a
small set of packages.
Using acpid and amixer one can set an acpid rule to react at volume keys at a
deeper level than the default sound daemon.
Use acpi_listen to discover your key codes and write a script like this (for
wojox, that's not quite correct. You'll need to do dist-upgrades to get
new packages, such as new kernel versions or new dependencies like this
one.
The important part to be careful with regarding dist-upgrades is that
you pay close attention to removals. Try to understand why something is

Installing python-gnome2 does not solve all the issues. Although ecal is
