screen saving is blank screen / turn off and there is no password prompt. i have never tried to lock the screen on guest account. theoretically, should it even be possible to lock the screen since guest accts use a random pwd? Steps to reproduce: 1. start a guest session 2. allow the computer to suspend after timeout 3. resume the computer from suspend 4. a password prompt prevents guest (or any) user from resuming session As it stands, the user must press switch user at #4 above to go back to the login screen and may then re-enter the guest session from there. If the way that a guest session works is that it creates a temporary random password every time, that password should automatically be entered at step 4 above so the user never sees the password prompt, OR the guest session should always be created with require my password when waking from suspend unchecked. [Bug 959276] Re: Scrolling message in preview breaks rendering
I can definitively confirm this problem with the rendering problem of the message preview pane in evolution: No message preview content at all when selecting an email - or an old message is displayed or visual glitches like described above. Long multipart and HTML messages seem to trigger it in a reproducable way. I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 64-Bit with kernel 3.2.0-32-generic # 51-Ubuntu SMP Wed Sep 26 21:33:09 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux and evolution 3.2.3-0ubuntu6. Unity (3D) with compiz and NVIDIA most recent drivers. The workaround of starting evolution with LIBOVERLAY_SCROLLBAR=0 evolution WORKS FINE for me, too! Not sure so I compiled it with --prefix=/opt/empathy-3.4.2.3 so I could have a copy of this version along side of the one already installed. Now I have a question. For some reason my debug symbols (empathy- dbgsym) I had before 3.6.0.3 was installed got removed from my system and I had to get to install empathy-dbg instead. [Bug 1067434] [NEW] Sound output device keeps changing when using headphones
Public bug reported: Recently upgraded to 12.10. Having issues with sound when using headphones plugged into the front ports. Something that doesn't happen when booting to windows - so fairly confident it's an Ubuntu issue. When listening to any sound, music, video etc the sound levels jump up and down and click. If I open sound from the settings menu when playing videos or music and viewing the output tab I can see headphone - built-in audio disappear and reappear (very quickly) so I'm guessing the system is jumping back to the analogue output and back again which is why the sound volume changes and clicks. Worth noting I never used my headphones when 12.04 was installed so not sure if it's this OS or Ubuntu hates my hardware generally. Booted from live cd (usb) to 12.04 and there wasnt any issue. Anyone seen this before? any advice? Sound is built in to motherboard. I have the Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5. [Bug 1067450] [NEW] burning a cd + renaming a folder at the same time causes freeze then crash
Public bug reported: I used Nautilus to burn a CD image. This creates a «Transient» window which is not modal, but trying to use the window underneath to do something as simple as renaming a folder (F2 key) in the same folder causes Nautilus to NOT do the rename, just wait, then the window goes dark, then after some more seconds it just shutdowns without any explanation (not even a dialogue box saying that it crashed), and then the CD is unusable of course. It looked like a deadlock, but I didn't watch the CPU usage to make sure. I didn't try other possibilities. I don't mind destroying some other CDs for testing, if I get told what other cases to try. [Bug 975636] Re: Trouble setting library location to Pictures/Photos
I can confirm this is affecting me on 12.10 as well. I have edited my XDG_PICTURES_DIR (.config/user-dirs.dir) to use a different folder: ~/My Media/Pictures. I was using F-Spot before but choose not to run the auto import as over time I had accidentally ended up with two Photo folders on my system. So I merged them into one under $XDG_PICTURES_DIR/Photos. I started F-Spot. Changed the library folder to ~/My Media/Pictures/Photos and Shotwell correctly imported everything. Restarting Shotwell I found the folder had been set back to the XDG_PICTURES_DIR path. If I change the folder then import an image it would still import to $XDG_PICTURES_DIR/[date-path]/image.jpg I tried changing my XDG_PICTURES_DIR path to point to the Photos directory instead but this caused Shotwell to not copy photos into the library directory at all (despite explicitly choosing the Copy photos button). Changing the XDG_PICTURES_DIR path back to what I had before does not fix this. It seemed Shotwell was now totally confused. I deleted my Shotwell data directory (.local/share/shotwell), set XDG_PICTURES_DIR=$HOME/My Media/Pictures/Photos, started Shotwell, imported a photo and it ended up in $HOME/My Media/Pictures/[date- path]/image.jpg. I was expecting at the very least for it to be the default $HOME/Pictures directory. The behavior makes me think it is hard coded to a folder called Pictures. Note that changing XDG_PICTURES_DIR tends to be reflected in Nautilus right away. I don't know if it is cached somewhere though which Shotwell may have read from. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to shotwell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/975636 Title: Trouble setting library location to Pictures/Photos To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shotwell/+bug/975636/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Log in again and change the password of the user using System User info Change password + 4. Log in again. Now the Gnome keyring complains that it was unable to open. The computer is not connected to the protected WLAN and the user is asked both the Gnome keyring password and the WLAN password. + + Regression potention: + Check that the keyring password is correctly updated + Better description and fresh follow-up in report https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/precise/+source/gnome-control- center/+bug/911426 Original description: The default Gnome keyring manger in Ubuntu 9.04 (Seahorse 26.6.1?) asks the user to unlock his/her keyring in order to save the Ubuntu One token _if_ the user has changed his/her password after initial installation/login of Ubuntu 9.04. The actual problem seems to be that the default password for the keyring is initially and automatically set to the same password the user uses to log in into Ubuntu (GDM). The user does not know anything about the keyring, because it works automatically (and that's fine). However if the user ever changes his/her password for Ubuntu (Linux username) the password protecting the keyring is not changed. So later if the user needs to unlock the keyring, he/she needs to rembember what was his/her password when he/she started using Ubuntu in the beginning. The solution would be to set some kind of flag in the Gnome keyring (Sea Horse?) that the password has been taken automatically from the username/login. So if ever the user does change his username/login password, the Gnome keyring would know to automatically also change the password that protects the keyring. This bug does not effect new users of Ubuntu, but most likely everybody who has been using Ubuntu for a longer time (and thus has changed their login password at some time, which brakes the keyring automatics). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/416825 Title: gnome-keyring passwd should be changed on system password change To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-control-center/+bug/416825/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 31286] Re: Displays repeated keyring dialogs on resume from suspend and login
I found to reproduce this bug by 2 ways: 1. When not connected to a secured (without password saved) wifi, try to connect to the secured wifi (do not type password or do anything), go take a rest, unlock computer and se a lot of nm-applet dialog. 2. When not connected to a secured (without password saved) wifi, try to connect to the secured wifi (do not type password or do anything); repeat from the begining. To fix this bug I give the following suggestions: Simple fix: On connect event: If keyring-dialog is visible, do nothing, else if connection needs password and password is not saved, display keyring-dialog. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to a duplicate bug report (47509). https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/31286 Title: Displays repeated keyring dialogs on resume from suspend and login To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/network-manager/+bug/31286/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
