[Bug 1225405] [NEW] gdm fails to connect to screen after installing nvidia-319 drivers

2013-09-14 Thread Paul le Roux
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu version: 13.10 Gnome

SW version: updated using ftp.wa.co.za Sep 14 15:00 local time from the
development branch (happens with earlier version aswel)

HW: Roccat P502 4AB Laptop

Expected: GDM login prompt appears
Happened: Depending on things I tried the splash screen stays on, the display
turns of after splash screen, displays a window that can only do text (Not a
console - when this happens Xserver ussually crashed)

More info:
I am using Ubuntu 13.10 Gnome. After installing nvidia-319 drivers the gdm
doesn't start properly. If I remove the nvidia drivers it works again.

If I install nvidia-prime it connects to the screen when starting up
with ligthdm (but there is graphical glitches), but does not connect
with gdm.

Neither gdm or xserver reports any error in their log which are related
with video systems.fo

[Bug 1225514] [NEW] adding keyboard layouts no longer seems to update xkb correctly

2013-09-14 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Public bug reported:

I'm not sure if this is caused by gnome-control-center, or ibus 1.5, but
in saucy, adding or modifying the keyboard layouts doesn't seem to
properly update xkb any longer.

For example, I can have both French (Canada) and English (US)
configured, but xkl_config_rec_get_from_server() will only return 'ca'
and xkl_engine_get_num_groups() will return 1, instead of 2.

I believe this is also causing the keyboard layouts to not appear on the
login screen.

[Bug 799983] Re: Terminal menu short-cut(s) override Unicode composition

2013-09-14 Thread joelproko
Bug still present in quantal.
The example is a bit badly chosen though, since I doubt there are keyboard
layouts with latin characters without a question mark.
Better examples would be ctrl-shift-uFE (þ aka SMALL THORN) and ctrl-shift-u26f
(ɯ aka IPA high back rounded vowel aka SMALL TURNED M).

However, there is the following user-side fix: Instead of keeping CTRL
and SHIFT pressed when releasing the U and then typing the hexcode,
press CTRL-SHIFT-U, then release all keys, type the hexcode and press
space. This method, though it necessitates an additional keypress
(space), does the same as the first method and avoids any ctrl-
shift-key triggered commands.

[Bug 1225563] [NEW] Nautilus crashes when changing permissions

2013-09-14 Thread Jonathan
Public bug reported:

This happens when running as root:

myuser@mycomputer:~$ gksu nautilus

When permissions are changed through right-clicking a folder and
selecting properties, nautilus displays a properties dialog, quickly
followed by an empty dialog box and crashes. This only affects folders,
not files.

Sometimes the dialog displays:

The owner could not be changed.
Sorry, could not change the owner of 'test'. Specified owner 'myuser' does not
exist.

(See attachments).

I know myuser exists as I am logged in as myuser!
This also happens when the folder is owned by 'otheruser', who is not logged on.

===Work-around===

Use chmod to change permissions.

2) nautilus:

This affects Ubuntu Desktop, Lubuntu, and Ubuntu Gnome, so to start with
we should have agreement from the three product managers that we want
this in this late in the game.

[Bug 1225588] [NEW] Wakeup key press passes through lock screen

2013-09-14 Thread Angus Gibson
Public bug reported:

When I use the super or alt keys to wake up from sleep, the lock screen
comes up as usual. However, upon successfully logging in, the Dash or
alt-menu will be open, when they definitely weren't open before the
sleep. I would expect that keys I press to wake up don't get passed
through the lock screen to the desktop.

Ubuntu version: 13.04
