[Bug 1238457] [NEW] yelp INFO:foo produces forkbomb

2013-10-11 Thread Ryan Finnie
Public bug reported:

Running yelp INFO:foo (or INFO:anything) opens a blank help window
which seemingly cannot be closed, moved, minimized, etc. No other input
is possible. Switching to the console reveals two yelp processes, one
which remains, and which constantly launches children in series, all of
which immediately die. killall yelp from the console allows me to get
access to the desktop again.

2013-10-11 Thread Christophe Viallon
Well, this issue is always there using Ubuntu 13.04 nautilus
(3.8.0-31-generic #46-Ubuntu) !
The workaround I proposed earlier works (I don't know why) but the problems
still comes back regularly.
Is anybody has found what triggers it ?

[Bug 1238634] [NEW] Nautilus 3.8 does not properly handle file associations to 'Open with'

2013-10-11 Thread Helio Neto
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Saucy Salamander 13.10 Beta amd64, fully updated 2013-10-09
Nautilus 3.8.2

(I don't have a machine running Saucy at this moment to attach more
details, sorry.)

Nautilus since 3.8.0 completely ignores .desktop files that contain
NoDisplay=true, which is used in Ubuntu by all applications that handle
mime types but whose icons must not show up on the dash (or menu). The
use of NoDisplay=true is recommended by Freedesktop.org (
http://standards.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-spec/desktop-entry-spec-
latest.html#recognized-keys ), but GNOME devs said this was inconsistent
and 'fixed' it: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=696372

This has broken a lot of open with associations in Saucy.

Steps to reproduce, taking Wine as an example of installed package that uses a
.desktop file to register 'wine windows program loader' as an optional
application to open with Windows-exe mime types:
- If Wine is installed, in Nautilus it does not even appear as an open with
option for .exe mime type. No way to select it.
- Using Ubuntu Tweak's 'file associations manager', Wine appears and is
selectable in the list of .exe handlers, looks normal, you can select it and
then it shows up in Nautilus open with set as the default. Everything works
ok, but...
- If in Nautilus you change back the .exe open with option to file-roller (or
anything else), then Wine instantaneously disappears from the applications list.
- The same happens with default base install applications like
gnome-disk-image-mounter and Archive Mounter open with for .iso mime type (at
first I even thought they were scrapped from Saucy).

I did a quick and dirty hack to restore Nautilus' open with
functionality: NoDisplay=true must be replaced by NotShowIn=Unity in
each .desktop file that must be hidden. Of course this only works for
Unity, but I think it is possible to use
OnlyShowIn=WriteHereAnyInexistentDesktopEnvironmentName to emulate the
same effect of NoDisplay=true (I didn't test this).

[Bug 1236089] Re: Nautilus does not sense the presence of wine

2013-10-11 Thread Helio Neto
This bug is not related specifically to Wine, it affects all of the
open with mime bindings in Saucy's Nautilus 3.8

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1238634

I was having a heck of a hard time trying to configure open with in
Nautilus (and also using Ubuntu Tweak's file associations option),
Nautilus was behaving totally nuts. It turns out that this is one more
'improvement' in upstream Nautilus. Now it completely ignores .desktop
files that contain NoDisplay=true, which is used by all applications
that handle mime types but whose icons don't show up on the dash.

Being Saucy in a RC-like status, this bug seems pretty UGLY and I'm
surprised not finding any other reports about it.

[Bug 1238664] [NEW] No GUI-based management function to add users to a new group in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

2013-10-11 Thread Mirco Helg
Public bug reported:

No GUI-based management function to add users to a new group in Ubuntu
12.04 LTS :=(

Please could you a GUI-based management function to add users to a new
group in the Ubuntu (gnome-control-center)?

As for new users it is too difficult a user eg add to the group
Bumblebee.

Because if you have installed bumblebee man must be in the group to
perform optirun!

Linux Mint and it has also Kubuntu (KDE), Xubuntu (XFCE) Lubuntu (LXDE)
Ubuntu Gnome.

It is not so great because Ubuntu is supposed to be for beginners!!

ACK on the precise and raring merge proposals. Look good.

I've uploaded packages for processing by the SRU team with a few minor changes:
1- Removed -proposed from changelog (no longer necessary)
2- Used ubuntu0.1 instead of ubuntu1 for versioning so we don't collide
3- Changed the patch tags to adhere to DEP-3 more

Thanks!

[Bug 518056] Re: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c

2013-10-11 Thread Rael
My problem is: while using the US layout, the behavior is the same on Windows.
To me, ok, but when, as you guys, I put other non-tech people using Ubuntu,
it's a problem.

On Windows, when I use US international, and I type '+c, I get ç. When I
type '+I, I get I'. So, I can type portuguese and US stuff (for
programming) with no problem.

But, as we're discussing here, the behavior is different on Ubuntu. Not
sure if it's a bug, appears to be the Ubuntu way.

Anyway, I changed this (I'm using 12.04 LTS).

I did a bunch of stuff, not sure if all this is really required. Please,
correct me I'm wrong or doing unnecessary steps.

I used this .XCompose file in my home folder: http://www.raelcunha.com/.XCompose
Then I included in my .bash_profile and .profile:

export GTK_IM_MODULE=xim
export QT_IM_MODULE=xim

Then I asked to Ubuntu use xim:

im-switch -s default-xim

Then I installed ibus-table-compose:

sudo apt-get install ibus-table-compose

Then logout and login.

Can someone from Ubuntu team tell me if all this is required?

[Bug 1227920] Re: after suspend/resume, the Unity HUD is always open when I unlock the screen

2013-10-11 Thread Stephen M. Webb
The gnome-settings daemon uses the XTEST extension to inject kepresses
of the alt key when the lid is opened (or whatever action is taken to
unsuspend: it's all lid opened to g-s-d). It does this to force-
reset the X11 idle time counter. The use of the Alt key is hardcoded in
gnome-settings-daemon.

[Bug 1227920] Re: after suspend/resume, the Unity HUD is always open when I unlock the screen

2013-10-11 Thread Stephen M. Webb
The only way Unity could avoid this problem is to change the default HUD
key. The solution rightly lies in changing the behaviour of gnome-
settings-daemon.

[Bug 1227920] Re: after suspend/resume, the Unity HUD is always open when I unlock the screen

2013-10-11 Thread Doug McMahon
I have 1 machine where this occurs 100 % of the time. It's been doing this
since at least when I filed bug on a month ago, probably a week or 2 longer
than that.
Several days ago added a new install to same machine happened to notice it no
longer occurs.

So the diff here seems to be 'upower', specifically libupower-glib1
With upower packages (3 here) from upower_0.9.21-3ubuntu2 it always occurs
With packages from 0..9.22-1 it never occurs

If I downgrade to upower_0.9.21-3ubuntu2, log out/in, it comes back,
upgrading to 0.9.22-1, log out/in, it stops

Maybe it's just this hardware where the above affects don't know,
overall g-s-d is causing a number of small issues anyway.

[Bug 1239010] Re: gnome-settings activation freezes computer

2013-10-11 Thread vmc
After further analysis I believe the problem is in the integrated video:
nvidia 6150se nforce 430.

This problem occurs both using Ubuntu 13.10 Unity and Ubuntu-gnome 13.10

When I installed nvidia-304 proprietary program it doesn't happen.

So the bottom line is nouveau is the problem area and needs attention.
