[Bug 1266687] Re: Super+Space can not be used for switching keyboard layouts

2014-01-08 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
I don't think this is an indicator-keyboard bug. I can reproduce the
problem even when the keyboard menu is hidden, i.e. Show current input
source in the menu bar is unchecked.

(And yes, the current settings UI is missing several previous options.
This is because the Keyboard settings panel comes unaltered from the
Gnome ascetics. Hopefully Ubuntu will restore many of them as we
diverge.)

[Bug 609884] Re: Add Time slider panel for btrfs volumes

2014-01-08 Thread M. van Workum
It's been a while, nobody seemed to have cared about this anymore.
I for one started to take a closer look on btrfs and it's snapshot
functionality is one of it's most interesting feature to me.
So it wasn't long before I was searching for this particular feature to be a
part of nautilus.
This would be a great addition to Ubuntu and will certainly help the target
user group a lot in data management.

Take a look at this, the work itself already has been done, perhaps it would be
great to to include it in 14.04?

[Bug 314408] Re: Please separate automatically discovered remote printers from locally configured printers

2014-01-08 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Specification updated.
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Printing?action=diffrev2=23rev1=21

** Package changed: gtk+3.0 (Ubuntu) = ubuntu

** Changed in: ubuntu
   Status: In Progress = Triaged

** Changed in: ubuntu
 Assignee: Matthew Paul Thomas (mpt) = (unassigned)

** Description changed:

  The main reason why Debian/Ubuntu does not enable automatic use of
  network printers broadcasted by remote CUPS servers by default is that
  there is no way to tell apart locally configured (and thus trusted)
  printers from those which got advertized by remote CUPS servers (and
  thus open the possibility of luring someone into printing confidential
  material onto a rogue network printer).

  E. g. I have a locally configured local_ps printer, and an ML-1610
  configured on a remote server which appears through cups browsing
  detection. The print dialog currently looks like this:

    http://people.ubuntu.com/~pitti/screenshots/print_dialog_gtk.png

  the printers look exactly the same, I have no way to tell which ones can
  be considered trusted. It would be great to separate the locally
  configured from the remotely detected ones:

    |_| Print to file |
-   Locally configured printers:
+   Locally configured printers:
    |=| HP DeskJet 123| room 10  |
    |=| Samsung Foo Color |  |
    Automatically detected remote printers:
    |=| ML-1610   | dagobert |

  Locally configured and automatically discovered remote printers can be
  told apart with the CUPS_PRINTER_DISCOVERED flag (see cups/cups.h).
+
+ https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Printing#listing: whenever available printers
+ are listed, they should be listed in up to two sections: * Whenever at
+ least one manually configured printer is available, a section beginning
+ with an insensitive item, “Configured printers”. * Whenever at least one
+ broadcast printer is available, a section beginning with an insensitive
+ item, “Discovered printers”.

[Bug 1260761] Re: file browser toolbar has wrong background color in Ambiance

2014-01-08 Thread Lars Uebernickel
The problem is that that toolbar is marked as a primary toolbar, which
ambiance colors dark. I've removed that in gedit upstream[1]. I'll
backport the patch when it is accepted.

2014-01-08 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1267206] [NEW] right click menu delay

2014-01-08 Thread dale
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 13.10
Release:13.10

gnome-terminal 3.6.1-0ubuntu6

The menu should respond immediately assuming the system is not under
load.

When right clicking inside the terminal window to open a menu, it takes
~30 seconds, during which time memory usage slowly increases until the
menu is shown. I could not find any errors associated with this issue,
but was able to fix it by compiling 3.6.2 from gnome sources.

[Bug 1210852] Re: gvfsd-http assert failure in g_error_free()

2014-01-08 Thread Gulliver Moy
Sorry I am new to this. To be clear, to fix this error on my computer
running Xubuntu 13.10 amd64, would I need to build a gvfs 1.19.2 package
from here: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/1.19.2-0ubuntu1 ?

Or will that work because my machine is not 14.04?

Never built/compiled a package before but am happy to work it out if
someone can tell me if that's what needs to be done.

Cheers.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1210852 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1210852

Sorry Christopher, you overestimate me. I do not know about
'backporting'. But a quick read on Wiki suggests that might make sense
seeing as my 13.10 would be older than Trusty (14.10)...

(By the way, I don't get why names like Saucy and Trusty are used so
much more than the version numbers. As a new user when I see a version
number I instantly know what's being talked about and have an idea of
the chronology of releases. When I see 'Trusty' I have to go back to
Google.)

How would I go about getting a backport? Could I just try
compiling/building this
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/1.19.2-0ubuntu1 ?

[Bug 1153012] Re: gucharmap hangs on startup

2014-01-08 Thread quequotion
Same problem.

Unfortunately, no output from gucharmap whatsoever.

Interestingly, starting with --font='somefont somesize' displays the
chosen font and size, but still opens to a frozen window.

It may just be a coincidence, but running charmap again (without a font
selection) produced a usable window!

Re: [Bug 1229066] Re: evince-thumbnailer can't run mktexpk

2014-01-08 Thread Sergio Gelato
* Sebastien Bacher [2014-01-08 16:57:52 -]:
 Thanks for your bug report. Could you add an example for such dvi file?

I cen try and construct one that reproduces the issue on my system, but
there is no guarantee that the same choice of font will reproduce the
problem somewhere else: that depends on the history of the individual
system (specifically, on whether the pk files for the font in question
have already been generated and cached).

 That would make easier to reproduce/debug the issue

With texlive-fonts-extra installed, try the following. If you happen to have
used font t2c-iwonami in the past, try with a different font. Note the
Permission denied errors when running evince, and the decision to
substitute a (very) different font for the one that was requested.

$ tex testfont
This is TeX, Version 3.1415926 (TeX Live 2009/Debian)
(/usr/share/texmf-texlive/tex/plain/base/testfont.tex

Name of the font to test = t2c-iwonami
Now type a test command (\help for help):)
*\table

*\bye
[1]
Output written on testfont.dvi (1 page, 9320 bytes).
Transcript written on testfont.log.
$ evince testfont.dvi

kpathsea: Running mktexpk --mfmode / --bdpi 600 --mag 1+0/600 --dpi 600
t2c-iwonami
/usr/bin/mktexpk: 1: /usr/bin/mktexpk: /usr/share/texmf/web2c/mktexnam:
Permission denied
mktexpk: / already exists.
/usr/bin/mktexpk: 210: /usr/bin/mktexpk: /usr/share/texmf/web2c/mktexupd:
Permission denied
kpathsea: Appending font creation commands to missfont.log.
page: Warning: font `t2c-iwonami' at 600x600 not found, trying `cmr10' instead

Running the above resulted in the following dmesg entries:

[ 2112.341075] type=1400 audit(1389252767.990:36): apparmor=DENIED
operation=exec parent=3320 profile=/usr/bin/evince//sanitized_helper
name=/usr/share/texmf/web2c/mktexnam pid=3342 comm=mktexpk
requested_mask=x denied_mask=x fsuid=1000 ouid=0
[ 2112.475442] type=1400 audit(1389252768.122:37): apparmor=DENIED
operation=exec parent=3320 profile=/usr/bin/evince//sanitized_helper
name=/usr/share/texmf/web2c/mktexupd pid=3347 comm=mktexpk
requested_mask=x denied_mask=x fsuid=1000 ouid=0

The problem goes away if one runs the command that was saved in ~/missfont.log
and runs evince again on the same .dvi file.
