[Bug 1267371] [NEW] Evince crashes after filling out PDF form

2014-01-09 Thread Christian A. Reiter
Public bug reported:

After filling out a few (~20) form items in this pdf form:
http://www.pehamholz.at/fileadmin/content01/Service/Peham_Zuschnittsformular.pdf
, evince doesn't accept more input - the keyboard just does not respond to
typing within evince. Cursor positioning in other form fields with the mouse
works well, but no typing available.
Then I click onto a non-editable text and press Ctrl+S to save the document on
disc. When I close evince, it crashes reproducible (each time).

[Bug 1210852] Re: gvfsd-http assert failure in g_error_free()

2014-01-09 Thread Gulliver Moy
Sorry Christopher, I'm not really confident following those instructions
due to my very basic understanding of Ubuntu/Bug fixing and Launchpad
procedure. For example I don't feel comfortable editing the description,
talking about things like regression potential or even understand
'Upload the fixed package to release-proposed with the patch in the bug
report', etc.

Perhaps someone could nominate it for me or else I would need more
detailed instructions.

In the mean time, would it be a bad idea to attempt to compile “gvfs”
1.19.2-0ubuntu1 (from the link in my previous comment) on my Saucy
(13.10) machine. Will it definitely fail to fix my problem / put my
system in danger?

[Bug 864660] Re: computer over heat, and auto restart after 11.04

2014-01-09 Thread madbiologist
The overheating is probably due to the fact that you have a ATI
Technologies Inc M92 [Mobility Radeon HD 4500 Series] graphics chip.
ATI/AMD graphics have historically had only limited power management
support under Linux. The good news is that better power management has
of ATI/AMD graphics has now arrived!

Better power management for AMD/ATI Radeon R600 and newer hardware was
introduced in the 3.11 linux kernel and refined in the 3.12 kernel. A
PPA of the 3.12.6 kernel is available at http://kernel.ubuntu.com
/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ and instructions on how to install and uninstall
it are available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds

To use this power management for the AMD/ATI Radeon you will need to
select it at boot by adding radeon.dpm=1 to your GRUB kernel boot
options as described at
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2/Troubleshooting#Editing_the_GRUB_2_Menu_During_Boot

If you have R700 or newer hardware (other than APUs) you will also need to
install the latest AMD graphics microcode (ucode) files to /lib/firmware/radeon
These are available at http://people.freedesktop.org/~agd5f/radeon_ucode/
Get the version ending in smc.

R700 basically means Radeon HD 4000 series and newer. However note that
according to Wikipedia and
http://xorg.freedesktop.org/wiki/RadeonFeature/#index5h2 the Mobility
Radeon HD 4225/4250 is a RV620 chip, so anyone with one of those
shouldn't need the updated firmware files.

Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander is based on the 3.11 kernel and includes
the updated AMD smc firmware.

See the blog post at http://www.botchco.com/agd5f/?p=57 for further
information.

Unlike the older dynpm method, the new DPM method works with multiple
monitors and there shouldn't be any flickering as the performance level
changes are handled by dedicated hardware rather than the driver.

The currently under-development 3.13 upstream kernel enables DPM by
default (without needing the radeon.dpm=1 boot parameter I mentioned
above) for Radeon HD 4000 through Radeon HD 7000 series graphics
processors but with some specific ASICs being excluded.

Also make sure you have removed all dust from inside the computer,
particulary from the CPU and GPU fans and heatsinks (on a laptop at the
very least run a vacuum cleaner nozzle along the external air vents).
You can also put the edge of a book under the back edge of your laptop
so that it is raised off the desk at a slight angle, or purchase a
laptop cooling pad (with USB powered fans) to sit the laptop on.

[Bug 951585] Re: gvfsd-afp consumes 100% of processor cycles

2014-01-09 Thread Styno
For me too gvfsd-afp consumes 100% CPU after accessing a Synology NAS,
but only after suspending the laptop (non-Mac) for the night and trying
again the next day. Trying to access the share again using Nautilus
gives a popup saying (translated) Oops, something went wrong. Unhandled
error: error while sending data: broken pipe. Only killing gvfsd-afp
helps. I'm using Ubuntu 13.10.

[Bug 1054081] Re: gvfsd-http crashed with signal 5 in g_cancellable_make_pollfd()

2014-01-09 Thread Brian Murray
Hello Alexander, or anyone else affected,

Accepted libsoup2.4 into saucy-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libsoup2.4/2.42.3.1-0ubuntu1 in a
few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

+
+ This bug stops users of Abiword in Xubuntu copy and pasting pictures

+
+ * justification for backporting the fix to the stable release.
+
+ Copy and pasting pictures is surely a very basic feature of any word

+ I have detected this bug on multiple versions of Xubuntu (13.10 64-bit,
+ 13.10 32-bit and a 12.04 ?-bit - 100% of the machines I have tested it

+

It's on my TODO list now so hopefully I'll find time for it soon.

this may not be a good fit for an SRU, would this better fit the
criteria of a backport as outlined in

[Bug 720389] Re: The touchpad works very bad

2014-01-09 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Airam RR, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-input-synaptics REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is
already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one
would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1267679] [NEW] Copy dialog disappears, no way to bring it back.

2014-01-09 Thread NoBugs!
Public bug reported:

I was just copying many files to and from server at once, then copied
over some files over that required merge, and clicking replace,
replace... replace-all. Then I noticed that there was no longer any
transfer window - not with Alt-tab and looking at all the Nautilus
filebrowser windows, and not with Super+W windows overview. It had
completely disappeared, however, the status-bar in the Unity panel to
the left showed its status bar going on and eventually finishing.

I try Super+W, Show copy dialog from rightclick, alt-tab, nothing will
show the copy dialog, though copying works.

[Bug 1257505] Re: Create Unity Control Center so can remain on old GNOME Control Center version

2014-01-09 Thread Robert Ancell
Alberto - I'm pushing branches that enable panels in both control
centers, that way we can land changes at any time and no users will have
a control center with bits missing.

It doesn't look easy to do this for gnome-control-center-signon since
the package contains a lot of common files. We might have to wait for
the other components to be ready, and upload the gnome-control-center-
signon at the same time we add unity-control-center to the seed. We can
make gnome-control-center signon depend the version of u-c-c that is
uploaded at that time.

Also, I talked to the Ubuntu GNOME team about what they plan to do with
unity-control-center. They said that it was desirable to be able to
access the online accounts in GNOME for the apps that need it. Will
anything show in g-c-c once we move to u-c-c? Do you care about this
use-case as an upstream?

[Bug 156201] Re: gedit handles opening big files badly

2014-01-09 Thread NoBugs!
Same here, with 13.10, on a relatively small 23MB file - very high cpu,
though it is using 100MB of memory! With 6gb RAM you would think it
would be able to open it. Ironically, the full IDE MonoDevelop opens the
file in a second.
