[Bug 1566437] Re: Scrolling randomly stops working
The behavior you describe happens when the terminal switches to the so- called "alternate screen" upon encountering a certain escape sequence that is printed by your application. Usually fullscreen applications (such as the "mc" file manager, "less" pager, text editors etc.) use this mode. If it gets stuck in this mode at your shell prompt, it means that your application did not exit cleanly and left the terminal in this mode. Execute the "reset" command to get out of this situation. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1566437 Title: Scrolling randomly stops working To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/1566437/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1447306] [NEW] Window sections shown as black boxes
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Sections of certain windows will be incorrectly rendered as black when they should be rendered as the default color according to the selected theme. Although I'm not 100% certain, I've tagged this as a lightdm bug because I tested various configurations of nouvea/nvidia and unity/gnome-shell and found this happened in all configurations. To clarify, I tested this in the following configurations: nouveau + unity nouveau + gnome-shell nvidia-340 + unity nvidia-340 + gnome-shell and found this happened in several windows, notable gedit and gnome- tweak-tool (only gnome-shell). In general, it seemed to occur in the sections of the window that are otherwise empty and not populated by widgets. [Bug 1566513] [NEW] Complex numbers are exponentiated incorrectly
Public bug reported: The calculator incorrectly performs exponentiation if the base is complex and the exponent is a positive integer. Under these conditions the calculator exponentiates the real part of the base and leaves its imaginary part intact, that does not agree with the complex numbers operation rules. If the exponent is not a positive integer, the calculation is performed correctly. Steps to reproduce the bug: 1. Start the program. 2. Evaluate expression "i^2". The displayed result is "i". 3. Evaluate expression "(1+i)^2". The displayed result is "1+i". 4. Evaluate expression "(2+i)^2". The displayed result is "4+i". Please find a quick fix patch attached. I did not study its comprehensiveness and optimality, but it seems to work. [Bug 1566437] [NEW] Scrolling randomly stops working
Public bug reported: Usually, scrolling in the terminal window works as expected, which is like this: - the terminal window has a scrollbar - Assuming there are more lines (of commands you have typed + their output) than fit in the window, you can scroll up and down both by dragging the scrollbar and by using the mouse wheel However, at random times, the Terminal starts behaving like this: 1 - the scrollbar's "handle" is as high as the whole scrollbar, as if the existing lines didn't exceed the height of the window, even if that is not the case 2 - you can't scroll by dragging the scrollbar (which is consistent with 1) 3 - the scrollwheel behaves like the up and down arrow keys, that is, it scans through previously typed commands in your history. I have no idea what triggers the nonsense behavior. It seems to start happening randomly. [Bug 1566157] Re: Metacity's compositing is too slow
I run another set of benchmarks using x11perf. I don't know how much they can help in pinpointing the issue(s), but they do show that `metacity --composite` is extremely slower than `metacity --no-composite` or `compiz`. I'm attaching the output in LibreOffice Calc format, I think it's more readable that way. An example line from the attached .ods file: Test: 500x500 tiled rectangle (17x15 tile) no WM: 772 (100 %) metacity --no-composite: 699 (91%) metacity --composite: 233 (30 %) compiz: 688 (89 %) The numbers are the repetitions, and inside the parentheses are the normalized values, with 100% being the highest. The others are about 90% efficient, while `metacity --composite` is only 30% efficient, three times slower in that test. I can also create a similar .ods for gtkperf, if anyone thinks that it will somehow help. ** Attachment added: "x11perf.ods" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/metacity/+bug/1566157/+attachment/4624852/+files/x11perf.ods -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1566157 Title: Metacity's compositing is too slow To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/metacity/+bug/1566157/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1566182] [NEW] Nautilus_3.19.90 crashes when using USB memory card
Public bug reported: Gnome 3.20 Gnome3 Staging PPA Xenial development release Nautilus (3.19.90) crashes immediately when I click the memory card address (connected via USB) on the left panel (main window). The only case where Nautilus will not crash is if I use an empty and newly formatted memory card (SDHC or micro-SDHC). This happens also if I have an official Xenial setup with all the latest updates and only the PPA version of Nautilus_3.19.90 + GTK+3.0_3.20.2 is installed. What is odd, is that also the stable official Nautilus_3.18.4is3.14.3 crashes if only the PPA version of gnome-shell_3.20.0 + mutter_3.20.0 + gnome-session_3.20.0 + GTK+3.0_3.20.2 are installed on the otherwise official Xenial setup. However, if any other, or all other packages from the PPA (except Nautilus and gnome-shell - mutter) are installed on the otherwise offial Xenial setup, the official Nautilus works just fine. And of course with only the official Xenial setup, the official Nautilus is OK. So, it seems something is wrong with both nautilus_3.19.90 and gnome- shell_3.20.0. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: gnome3 ppa staging -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1566182 Title: Nautilus_3.19.90 crashes when using USB memory card To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1566182/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

That may be due to compiz not using the whole screen in glxgears -fullscreen; the drawing area didn't include the panels. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1566157 Title: Metacity's compositing is too slow To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/metacity/+bug/1566157/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1566157] [NEW] Metacity's compositing is too slow
Public bug reported: I did the following benchmarks between `metacity --no-composite`, `metacity --composite`, and `compiz`, in Ubuntu 16.04. First, I disabled vsync: $ cat ~/.drirc Then I ran glxgears as follows: $ metacity --no-composite --replace & sleep 5 && glxgears & sleep 20 && killall glxgears 29564 frames in 5.0 seconds = 5912.721 FPS 29729 frames in 5.0 seconds = 5945.777 FPS $ metacity --composite --replace & sleep 5 && glxgears & sleep 20 && killall glxgears 10366 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2073.057 FPS 10194 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2038.702 FPS $ compiz --replace & sleep 5 && glxgears & sleep 20 && killall glxgears 37633 frames in 5.0 seconds = 7522.813 FPS 37990 frames in 5.0 seconds = 7597.965 FPS As a second set of benchmarks, I ran glxgears -fullscreen as follows: $ metacity --no-composite --replace & sleep 5 && glxgears -fullscreen & sleep 20 && killall glxgears 1652 frames in 5.0 seconds = 330.296 FPS 1667 frames in 5.0 seconds = 333.281 FPS $ metacity --composite --replace & sleep 5 && glxgears -fullscreen & sleep 20 && killall glxgears 886 frames in 5.0 seconds = 177.007 FPS 891 frames in 5.0 seconds = 178.099 FPS $ compiz --replace & sleep 5 && glxgears -fullscreen & sleep 20 && killall glxgears 1830 frames in 5.0 seconds = 365.868 FPS 1847 frames in 5.0 seconds = 369.242 FPS Normalized results (with compiz=100): Windowed: metacity --no-composite: 78 FPS metacity --composite: 27 FPS compiz: 100 FPS Full screen: metacity --no-composite: 90 FPS metacity --composite: 48 FPS compiz: 100 FPS So `metacity --composite` in this test was about 2 times slower than `metacity --no-composite` and about 3 times slower than `compiz`. This test was done an "Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4440 CPU @ 3.10GHz" CPU, with the following embedded graphics card: $ lspci -nn -k | grep -A 2 VGA 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v3/4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0412] (rev 06) Subsystem: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd Xeon E3-1200 v3/4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller [1458:d000] Kernel driver in use: i915 I'll upload more tests if I find anything newsworthy. ** Affects: metacity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1566157 Title: Metacity's compositing is too slow To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/metacity/+bug/1566157/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
