[Bug 1716579] [NEW] gnome-software uses a very high cpu amount
Public bug reported: The room was silent, when the fan of my laptop suddenly started making noise. I checked it and it was because of the intense amount of CPU in use because of gnome software. Gnome Software CPU use was over 60%. [Bug 1716432] Re: With dash to dock enabled, title in window is not centred aligned to clock when the window is maximised
Confirmed... but maybe not a bug? It's a good thing that the window title is always centred. In fact it might look weird at lower resolutions if that wasn't true. The user would notice the lack of symmetry. [Bug 1716456] [NEW] crash on click Activities when app is running
Public bug reported: I believe this bug is related to the video driver but I'm not sure ... Anyway there goes the report: This is a crash that happens every time I open two different applications (for example: Chromium and Nautilus), one of them in workspace 1 and the other in workspace 2. When I change the focus between them for some time (from 3 to 5 times), there is a crash that causes, first, the window manager (or gnome shell, I'm not sure) to reboot, then, if I insist on trying to switch between the applications for some more times, the crash seems to be more severe and ubuntu returns to the login screen (gdm3). I'm using a dell inspiron 15 series 7000 (gaming), notebook with 2 displays (one is the display of the notebook itself and the other is an LG 23EA53, connected via HDMI and configured as a primary) To make the focus change I use the mouse, I click on "Activities" and, with the mouse, I click on the application that appears in the workspaces pile to the right of the display, below and above, successively until the crach occurs. Using Alt-TAB it seems at first that the crash does not occur ... or it takes longer to occur :-) This crash occurs when both applications are in the same workspace as well ... And if one of the applications is a virtual machine session of Virtualbox, crash occurs more quickly (with less focus shifts). [Bug 1631750] Re: Language installation doesn't work in Ubuntu GNOME 16.10 Settings app
I found the same problem with the language setup on Ubuntu 17.10. This could be related to the new Gnome Settings (just let me know if you think I should open a new bug report). I was running Ubuntu 17.10 in Italian language, previously installed with the old Gnome Settings. I wanted to switch to English language but I couldn't because of this bug. Following the steps of the bug description, the only difference was the terminal warning: "Language it_IT not installed, trying to install it" ..which is a bit strange because the system was already set to Italian, I wanted to set the en_US.UTF-8. I've noticed that while trying to change the language settings, the strings in /etc/default/locale don't change at all. :: WORKAROUND 1- sudo nano /etc/default/locale 2- Comment or delete the existing strings end write the following: LANG="en_US.UTF-8" LANGUAGE="en" If I want to go back to the Italian setup I just need to write the following: LANG="it_IT.UTF-8" LANGUAGE="it:en" 3- Press [Ctrl]+O and [Enter] to save the file. Press then [Ctrl]+X to exit from Nano editor. 4- Log-out and log-in again or restart the system. After the log-in the system is asking if you would like to update the names of the folders into $HOME (Desktop, Music, Video, etc..). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1631750 Title: Language installation doesn't work in Ubuntu GNOME 16.10 Settings app To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-gnome/+bug/1631750/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1716409] Re: Unable to install flatpak on Ubuntu artful
I installed `gnome-software-plugin-flatpak`. I had to download the `flatpakref` file, then double click it via the file manager, which caused GNOME Software to spit assorted errors and claims of something going wrong. I was however presented with an Install button which when clicked prompted for a password and then dumped me back at an Install button. I then searched GNOME Software for 'Pithos' and it found an entry where the source was flathub. I was able to install it by clicking the Install button. I doubt what I've described is how the installation flatpaks is intended to work. [Bug 1716409] [NEW] Unable to install flatpak on Ubuntu artful
Public bug reported: I saw a news article with a link to install a flatpak. http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2017/09/download-pithos-pandora-app-1-4 I clicked the link expecting to be able to install the flatpak, but the experience appears broken. I'm on an up to date Artful install What I did was:- Click on http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2017/09/download-pithos-pandora-app-1-4 Click the flathub link:- https://flathub.org/repo/appstream/io.github.Pithos.flatpakref This downloaded the flatpakref file. I clicked the file in my browser, nothing happened I then tried finding the file in nautilus and double clicked it. GNOME Software launched and presented an error "Don't know how to handle 'file:///home/alan/Downloads/io.github.Pithos.flatpakref' (see screenshot). If I search for pithos in GNOME Software I am able to find the older version from the deb repo, but not the newer version from flathub. Do we not support flatpak/flathub out of the box? [Bug 1716378] [NEW] No sensible diagnostics for expired certificates
Public bug reported: I had a running OpenVPN setup that one day "suddenly" failed to connect. It took a while to figure out that the certificates I've been using had expired. Expected: - An error message indicating that certificates expired. Actual: - Generic failure to connect error message. - Generic OpenVPN log file contents. It might be nice to check certificate validity before handing certificates off to OpenVPN to use. If the certificate is expired, the far more user friendly thing to do would be to show a specific error bubble stating that's the case. $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS Release:16.04 $ apt-cache policy network-manager-openvpn network-manager-openvpn: Installed: 1.1.93-1ubuntu1.1 Candidate: 1.1.93-1ubuntu1.1 Version table: *** 1.1.93-1ubuntu1.1 500 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial-updates/universe amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1.1.93-1ubuntu1 500 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/universe amd64 Packages ** Affects: network-manager-openvpn (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: feature -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to network-manager-openvpn in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1716378 Title: No sensible diagnostics for expired certificates To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager-openvpn/+bug/1716378/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1705157] Re: "Ubuntu" and "Ubuntu on Xorg" randomly start the same session (maybe Wayland maybe Xorg)
I'm looking at the "first login gives the wrong session" bug. I can reproduce in a VM that it says "Ubuntu" but you get "Ubuntu on X" (or whatever the exact name is). In this case GDM is using the "fallback" (default) session. It is set to ubuntu-xorg despite ubuntu being valid, being the first in the list and being selected in the UI. I think there might be a difference in sorting between the UI's presentation of sessions and the selection of fallback sessions - that's what I'm about to start investigating. ** Changed in: gnome-session (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => In Progress ** Changed in: gnome-session (Ubuntu) Status: In Progress => Invalid ** Changed in: gdm3 (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => In Progress ** Changed in: gdm3 (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Iain Lane (laney) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-session in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1705157 Title: "Ubuntu" and "Ubuntu on Xorg" randomly start the same session (maybe Wayland maybe Xorg) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-session/+bug/1705157/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1715722] Re: Allow safe override of GDM3 theme
Thanks for reporting the bug upstream! I tried to add some more context to the upstream bug report from our vendor perspective. The fix looks good, thanks! I'm currently testing it more. Also, I'm adding gnome-session to it: we can provide the same experience for people wanting to go really full GNOME and installing gnome-session. The priority though is lower than ubuntu's default, ofc. I'll give it a little bit more test (I just modified slightly your description) and will sponsor it, thanks again! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1715722 Title: Allow safe override of GDM3 theme To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-shell/+bug/1715722/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1714410] Re: Can't change display configuration, Method ApplyConfiguration is not implemented on interface org.gnome.Mutter.DisplayConfig
I logged bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control- center/+bug/1716322 for my issue (g-c-c can't change display settings due to scale factor 2). I think we need a separate bug for not remembering the settings after a restart because this bug thinks it's fixed, and I think it's a bug in gnome settings daemon rather than g-c-c. I find Artful to be pretty flaky at the moment when restarting - sometimes it remembers my settings, sometimes it doesn't; sometimes I get a Wayland session but sometimes I get an X11 session (even though I've always selected the Wayland option at login). Sometimes the Wayland session crashes. In X11 I can change the resolution using xrandr, but not in Wayland. In Wayland I can adjust the trackpad settings, but not in X11. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1714410 Title: Can't change display configuration, Method ApplyConfiguration is not implemented on interface org.gnome.Mutter.DisplayConfig To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1714410/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1716322] Re: gnome-control-centre fails to change display resolution due to "Scale 2 not valid for resolution"
This might be related to the setting "org.gnome.desktop.interface scaling-factor", because if I manually set it to zero (gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface scaling-factor 0), g-c-c now can change the display resolution. But g-c-c should not fail just because of an invalid setting. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1716322 Title: gnome-control-centre fails to change display resolution due to "Scale 2 not valid for resolution" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1716322/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Public bug reported: When I run g-c-c and try to change the laptop's display resolution from 4K to 1920x1080, it fails silently (it should really show the error, but that's another bug).
