[Bug 1727421] [NEW] Desktop focus border radius not matching overview panel border radius

2017-10-25 Thread Nathanel Titane
Public bug reported:

When enabling the activities overview, the current thickness/border-
radius values of the currently focused desktop conflict with the outer
perimeter of the overview panel.

Solution:

Decrease the focus border thickness and/or enable a border-radius value
to the ubuntu.css override for the desktop/window focus border so that
both corner roundings match and do not conflict visually.

See attached image for details.

[Bug 1704765] Re: can't drag file from desktop to folder window on Artful

2017-10-25 Thread kalyp
Did someone figure out a workaround until the bug is fixed? in
particular, is there any other solution than logging out when it
happens? Since I cannot figure out how to log into the xorg session by
default, once in a while I log into wayland without noticing, the bug
happens and I have to close everything, log out and back in which is
extremely annoying. So if someone has a trick for unlocking the mouse
without logging out, I am more than interested... Thank you!!

[Bug 1712798] Re: login return to login screen if APT::Install-Recommends=false

2017-10-25 Thread Thierry B.
After some trials and errors, I found the culprit. The is only ONE
package missing to open the session normally :

gsettings-ubuntu-schemas

So the conclusion is : if it is needed to properly open an X session
then it SHOULD be a true dependency from another package, not just a
recommended package.

Currently in artful gsettings-ubuntu-schemas is a dependency of the
following packages:

$ apt-cache rdepends gsettings-ubuntu-schemas
gsettings-ubuntu-schemas
Reverse Depends:
  unity
  unity-settings-daemon
  unity-control-center
  indicator-sound
  indicator-datetime
  gsettings-ubuntu-touch-schemas
  ubuntu-desktop

In this list no package is installed except ubuntu-desktop, and it is
the only package in this list that set gsettings-ubuntu-schemas as a
recommended packages.

So TMHO, gsettings-ubuntu-schemas SHOULD BE

[Bug 42109] Re: LiveCD session doesn't provide fully translated interfaces according to selected language on booting screen

2017-10-25 Thread Peter Eijlander
I don't think so, however, I have yet to see any live distro that does what was
quoted here. Apart from the fact that translations will always fall short from
complete in whatever language, the majority of "nerds & power users" will use
English as default language. I would say: Close the matter.
Cheers,

Fix now in ppa:ubuntu-desktop/gnome-software (snapd-glib

I tested with:
1. Remove existing core snap (removes ALL snaps on your system)

$ sudo apt install snapd
2. Restart GNOME Software
$ killall gnome-software
3. Install moon-buggy snap

[Bug 1720442] Re: Software (gnome-software) crashes after several seconds. Entirely unusable.

2017-10-25 Thread Dan Bright
Certainly looks like you've identified the issue, great!

Hopefully as far as Gnome Software is concerned, the fix would be
relatively trivial then - i.e. handling the case where the "type" and
"id" fields are empty ...

[Bug 1727301] [NEW] 229-4ubuntu20 added ARP option breaks existing bonding interfaces

2017-10-25 Thread Markus Schade
Public bug reported:

this breaks existing configurations with bonding on upgrading from
229-4ubuntu19 to 229-4ubuntu20 on xenial

as bond interfaces are now by default configured without ARP. Hence you
suddenly lose network connectivity on upgrade. Very bad for a SRU.

Plus adding "ARP=yes" to the Link section of a .network file does not
work.

Before this update, bond interfaces (specifically 802.3ad) were
defaulting to ARP enabled. After the upgrade, they are created with
NOARP set on the link.

pre-upgrade:

eth0:
eth1:
bond0:

post-upgrade:

[Bug 1727280] [NEW] The Dropbox status icon is too small and offers no left- or right-click menu

2017-10-25 Thread Ragnar Dunbar
Public bug reported:

The Dropbox status icon is too small and offers no left- or right-click
menu. The size of the icon seems to be about 16px and has no interactive
funcionality. That means that Dropbox cannot be configured via the menu
and one cannot prevent Dropbox from autostarting.

This is the case in stock Ubuntu 17.10 in both the wayland- and xorg-
session (Thinkpad x220 and Macbook Pro 2010).

The Dropbox status icon should have the same resolution as the other
icons in the top-panel, for example the battery indicator, and offer a
left- or right-click menu.

[Bug 1505409] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGTRAP in x_io_error() from _XIOError() from _XEventsQueued() from XPending() from gdk_check_xpending() ["Connection to xwayland lost"]

2017-10-25 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Come to think of it, fixing bug 1724185 might also stop this and bug
1556601 from happening (most of the time, not all the time).

At the moment when gnome-shell/mutter shuts down, Xwayland doesn't cope
well and may silently crash, which in turn is caught by gnome-shell and
gnome-shell crashes with "Connection to xwayland lost". So the act of
trying to debug the situation here and fixing bug 1724185 first might
actually avoid most instances of this one too.

[Bug 1727210] Re: Totum locks up with 17.10

2017-10-25 Thread Kent Gibson
I have the same problem - at least the same symptoms as the OP when playing MP4
viedos with totem on wayland.
My video card is an ATI HD5850 using the radeon driver.
The video will play in totem on xorg. It will also play on wayland with mpv or
vlc.

The only warning I get from totem is:

(totem:7298): Gtk-WARNING **: Drawing a gadget with negative dimensions.
Did you forget to allocate a size? (node slider owner GtkScale)

but I'm not sure if it is relevant.

vainfo output:

$ vainfo
libva info: VA-API version 0.40.0
libva info: va_getDriverName() returns 0
libva info: Trying to open /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/r600_drv_video.so
libva info: Found init function __vaDriverInit_0_40
libva info: va_openDriver() returns 0
vainfo: VA-API version: 0.40 (libva )
vainfo: Driver version: mesa gallium vaapi
vainfo: Supported profile and entrypoints
  VAProfileMPEG2Simple: VAEntrypointVLD
  VAProfileMPEG2Main : VAEntrypointVLD
  VAProfileVC1Simple : VAEntrypointVLD

  VAProfileH264Main : VAEntrypointVLD
  VAProfileH264High : VAEntrypointVLD

As I prefer totem over the other players, my current workaround is to fallback
to xorg.

[Bug 1727363] [NEW] Wayland dock "crash" after thumb (horizontal) scroll

2017-10-25 Thread Mirko
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 17.10 with 3 monitors (I don't know if this is relevant)
I don't know if this is the right place to leave this issue.
The problem is very simple to reproduce if you have a Logitech MX Master mouse:
if you make a horizontal scroll through the "thumb scroll wheel", the icons on
the wayland dock will disappear. To display them again, you need to restart the
session.
If you tell me where I can pick a log, I'll be happy to provide it.

Sorry for my english.

[Bug 1727415] [NEW] ubuntu dock border radius not matching icon focus border radius

2017-10-25 Thread Nathanel Titane
Public bug reported:

When disabling the dock's full height and straight corner enforcement
via dconf-editor, the border radiuses do not coincide and protrude from
the inner focus highlight of the icon onto the dock's perimeter.

Although not necessarily supported by the official visual guideline
(which aims to be Unity-like), all available features and options that
can be customised or triggered by a user should be verified and tested
for design consistency.

Solution:

The dock's icon highlight (focus) should have a higher border-radius
value to accommodate the dock's corner rounding.

[Bug 1719322] Re: Remove patch to remove headerbar

2017-10-25 Thread Khurshid Alam
I am against this.

These patches are needed for Unity. These patches are designed in two
ways:

1) It will use title-bar only under Unity & headerbar under all non-
unity sessions.

2) It will use header-bar only for Gnome session.

2 is the problem. What we need to do is convert 2 into 1. It should be
fairly simple to do that.

My point is that we shouldn't break app-menu completely in Unity. File-
roller and eog are default apps. If there is a feasible way to make them
work as intended for all sessions then we should adopt that.

I will check patches for contact, eog and file-roller so that I can
convert 2 into 1.

@Daniel, @Jeremy Are you ok with this?

[Bug 1721762] Re: Cancelled installation of snap continues

2017-10-25 Thread Robert Ancell
snapd-glib 1.24 now sends the cancel to snapd, however if you are using
a Polkit enabled snapd this method doesn't work through Polkit. This
causes an Ubuntu One dialog to pop up if not logged in.

This should be fixed in snapd so that cancels can occur the same way as
install/remove.

Ugg. Sorry about that. I don't fully understand the Ubuntu policy on
that myself, but it did change over night:

  https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/2.20.7-0ubuntu3.1

You might have some luck by downgrading your apport packages to the
previous version first:

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/2.20.7-0ubuntu3/+build/13569366

Again, sorry about that. I need to get in contact with the relevant
Canonical staff and ask what the rationale for periodically disabling
crash reports is...

[Bug 1727566] [NEW] extra left-behind domains break domain name rsolution

2017-10-25 Thread Roland Dreier
Public bug reported:

This seems related to LP: #1717995 but that is marked fixed.

I used my laptop at work, where I have a docking station with USB
ethernet included (interface enx0050b6cf4d4a). The dhcp on the wired

still have leftover state that stops purestorage.com names from

[Bug 1726826] Re: screen 256 colour TERM setting breaks logging into older hosts

2017-10-25 Thread Axel Beckert
I do not want to add any further patches to Debian's screen package
which makes it differ from upstream behaviour more than it already does.
(Of course, it's a different thing if issues are caused by existing
patches.)

And IMHO workarounds for issues in other packages do not belong into
shell startup files either. (Saying this with my Debian Zsh Team hat
on.)

Additionally, after the long and thorough discussion in the Debian bug
report (and additional discussions on the ncurses-term topic on IRC),
I'm convinced that there is no perfect solution. If you change something
to make screen usable in scenario X, it will make people using screen in
scenario Y unhappy and vice versa.

Even moving definitions from ncurses-term to ncurses-base doesn't make
things better by default: It may help to SSH from older systems with
ncurses-term to newer systems with just ncurses-base installed. But it
will also cause issues for people SSHing from newer systems with just
ncurses-base installed to older systems with an older version of
ncurses-base installed. (Not having ncurses-term at all and all
definitions in ncurses-base might look like a solution, but then it will
which definitions are in that package at which version...)

So yes, IMHO the best thing we can do is document the issue. (And
improvements for the documentation are always welcome. :-)

If you really think a behavioural change is needed in screen, then
please make according suggestions upstream and submit patches there.

[Bug 1727363] [NEW] Wayland dock "crash" after thumb (horizontal) scroll

2017-10-25 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I'm using Ubuntu 17.10 with 3 monitors (I don't know if this is relevant)
I don't know if this is the right place to leave this issue.
The problem is very simple to reproduce if you have a Logitech MX Master mouse:
if you make a horizontal scroll through the "thumb scroll wheel", the icons on
the wayland dock will disappear. To display them again, you need to restart the
session.
If you tell me where I can pick a log, I'll be happy to provide it.

Sorry for my english.
Regards

I'm looking at both 16.04 and 17.10 on identical monitors and can't see
the problem you're talking about.

Can you take screenshots of the issue? Just press PrtScn and then look
in your Pictures...
