[Bug 1761114] [NEW] systemd build error on aarch64 with "Failed to parse personality, ignoring: x86"

2018-04-04 Thread Neil
Public bug reported:

download source code from
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/229-4ubuntu21,
build with `dpkg-buildpackage` on aarch64, and build break with the following
messages:

```
+ test /tmp/test-exec_workingdirectory = /tmp/test-exec_workingdirectory
  2
[/root/neil/systemd/test/systemd-229.orig/test/test-execute/exec-personality-x86.service:7]
  3 + uname -m
  5 + test aarch64 = i686
  6 exec-personality-x86.service: Main process exited, code=exited,
status=1/FAILURE
  7 exec-personality-x86.service: Unit entered failed state.
  9 Assertion 'service->main_exec_status.status == status_expected' failed at
../src/test/test-execute.c:65, function check(). Aborting.
```

it should run into x86 test case with:
```
87  static void test_exec_personality(Manager *m) {
88  #if defined(__x86_64__)
89  test(m, "exec-personality-x86-64.service", 0, CLD_EXITED);
90
91  #elif defined(__s390__)
92  test(m, "exec-personality-s390.service", 0, CLD_EXITED);
93
94  #else
95  test(m, "exec-personality-x86.service", 0, CLD_EXITED);
96  #endif
97  }
```

after checked upstream systemd source code,
https://github.com/systemd/systemd/commit/12591863 will fix it.

is this patch already applied? or I get invalid build steps on aarch64?

[Bug 1706939] Re: A live session can't be shut down due to "[ *** ] (2 of 2) A start job is running for ... (21s / no limit)"

2018-04-04 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov

@mc3man

This bug was specifically about the Ubuntu Desktop Installer, and the
experience one has with it.

Are you experiencing something similar, on the installed system, after
the installation is done and you use Ubuntu normally? In that case
that's a separate issue. Please open a new bug.

If people experience shutdown issues of the live image, please clearly
state which image serial is used and what the symptoms are and how to
reproduce it.

[Bug 1760598] Re: I/O Error after clicking "reboot now" - Ubuntu font missing from casper shutdown

2018-04-04 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
** Summary changed:

- I/O Error after clicking "reboot now"
+ I/O Error after clicking "reboot now" - Ubuntu font missing from casper
shutdown

** Also affects: casper (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Changed in: systemd (Ubuntu)
   Status: Confirmed => Invalid

** Changed in: casper (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Confirmed

** Description changed:

+ ubuntu Plymouth theme now correctly uses Ubuntu font, meaning it needs
+ to be cached for display of the shutdown message.
+
+ We really should be using shutdown initramfs on the livecd
+
+ --
+
  Tested in Virtualbox VM.
  Ubuntu MATE works after force-reboot, but after I click on "restart now"
after completing the installation, the screen shows me this:

  req_error: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 1488792

  And the above message loops a couple times, and wont turn off the
  computer to restart.

  No error happens after force reboot, and the OS boots properly, but I'm
  curious as to what's causing this.

** Changed in: casper (Ubuntu)
   Status: Confirmed => Fix Committed

[Bug 1750846] Re: several g-s-d services are timing out when booting a live session

2018-04-04 Thread Iain Lane
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1749546 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1749546

I'll dupe this to the other slowness bug, it's probably the same thing.

What I found out before ali1234 came up with his analysis is that gsd-
xsettings is taking a really long time to start up. If you get in while
it's grinding, you can see that it's setting up its fontconfig monitor
at the time. So it's probably the same thing.

Other things in the session startup rely on gsd-xsettings being ready,
and they time out when it isn't.

Gnome-shell will freeze at unexpected times when using the firefox

I've switched to chrome without having gnome-shell freeze on me.

Is there something particular about the way firefox 59 (Quantum)

Unfortunately this stack trace is client side, but we don't know what
actually happened on the daemon during this situation to get to the
bottom of the problem.

Can you reproduce this again? If so, it would be really useful if you
could run the daemon under debug (or possibly valgrind) to figure out
what that side was doing.

[Bug 1759538] [NEW] [ffe] Install bolt by default for thunderbolt devices support

2018-04-04 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Bolt is a new component that is handling the authentification of
thunderbolt-3 devices. Without a way to authentificate the devices those
can't be used so it's sort of an important hardware enablement type of
feature.

The MIR for bolt has been approved as bug #1752056, including a security
review.

GNOME 3.28 (which is what we have in bionic) already include the UI side
for the user prompting, the request is just to install the service by
default so things work out of the box.

[Bug 1756788] Re: Removing "Startup Applications" in "Ubuntu Software" makes the system unable to launch GDM

2018-04-04 Thread Jeremy Bicha
We need to write AppStream metadata for gnome-session-properties and add the
compulsory_for_desktop field. It's the opposite of what this patch does:
https://salsa.debian.org/gnome-team/epiphany-browser/blob/debian/master/debian/patches/dont-make-compulsory.patch

Alternatively, we could add a new binary package for the gnome-session-
properties app to actually allow it to be uninstalled.

Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

2018-04-04 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov

> BTW, does Ubuntu have the systemd/udevd mount propagation fix included ?

yes no maybe =

Added in debian at ed16ca8690eb69c248a0a741def5324eedc9149d
Removed from debian at d529d047752d8492d43e42e8b4223d6d37fa3dd3
Meaning it was for a while, if you mean the Debian bug linked to this bug
report.
But not since laptop-mode-tools 1.68 was fixed.

I believe the debian bug attached to this bug report is a red herring.

[Bug 1758647] Re: ubiquity doesn't preselect the right default keyboard layout

2018-04-04 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug report, could you give some details
- where do you pick the language? on the syslinux first text based boot? or in
the installer?
- do you use the install only mode or the live session?
- is that specific to that language or do you see similar issues in other
locales?

I tried on a daily bionic iso
- boot the iso
- touch a key to see the syslinux menu, select nederlands
- select "ubuntu installieren"
-> it boots to ubiquity only with netherlands select
- do next
-> "Engels (VS) with "dode toesten" is selected

that seems about right?

[Bug 1758647] Re: ubiquity doesn't preselect the right default keyboard layout

2018-04-04 Thread Pjotr12345
Sebastien Bacher: what happened on your system is the right result, but
that's not what happens on my machine Still not, when I use the
latest daily Ubuntu iso (timestamped 20180-04-03 07:03).

It's a test machine with UEFI running in full UEFI mode, which might
account for the difference with the result from your test. My approach
is straightforward:

- I boot my laptop from the iso.
- it shows only the normal Grub-like "terminal" lines, no GUI, with "Try Ubuntu
without installing" as first line of the four. Which is normal for UEFI.
- I select the first line
- after the desktop appears, I establish Wifi connection
- I start Ubiquity
- In the welcome screen of Ubiquity, I select "Nederlands"
- I click the button "Verder" (Continue)
- I'm being presented with the wrong preselected "Engels (VS)" keyboard layout,
like I described in the opening message in this thread.

[Bug 1758647] Re: ubiquity doesn't preselect the right default keyboard layout

2018-04-04 Thread Pjotr12345
Just tested some other languages: exactly the same error happens when I
select Deutsch, Francais, Espanol or Italiano. They all present English
(US) as default preselected keyboard layout.

@Sebastien Bacher: have you already tested it with a UEFI machine
running in full UEFI mode, on the bare metal (not in VirtualBox)?

[Bug 1758647] Re: ubiquity doesn't preselect the right default keyboard layout

2018-04-04 Thread Pjotr12345
For the sake of completeness, I repeated the test with the latest daily
build of Xubuntu Bionic (timestamped: 2018-04-04 06:05). Again: the
Xubuntu iso shows precisely the same results as with the Ubuntu iso.

This seems to rule out gnome-settings-daemon as culprit...

[Bug 1758647] Re: ubiquity doesn't preselect the right default keyboard layout

2018-04-04 Thread Sebastien Bacher
the scenario you describe is totally different, you don't select the
language on the "grub like menu" and you boot to the live session mode
and not to the "ubiquity only" (which is the third entry), there seems
to be an issue with ubiquity in any case because if you go back and pick
another language and do next the keyboard is not updated

[Bug 1710637] Re: Input falls through to gdm3 and terminates the session on Ctrl+C after udevadm trigger is executed under wayland

2018-04-04 Thread Takis Issaris
I'm experiencing the same thing on Ubuntu Xenial. I initially thought it
was only on using Alt+left/right, but did a Alt+F4 to close a window
just now, and the window did close but it switched to VT4 as well. I
think it started happening today on my system.

[Bug 1508146] Re: Alt+left/right arrows switch between tty consoles (Gnome Shell vanishes), cannot disable

I am not sure if this is a duplicate, as I'm only experiencing the bug
with Alt+left/right. I'm on 16.04.4 LTS and started experiencing this
very recently after an update and reboot probably. I think that I
noticed this in fact as of today. I am not sure, as initially I thought
I had accidentally pressed a wrong key combo, but after 10 times,
noticed that it was the key combo for going back in my browser which
triggered it.

[Bug 1758647] Re: ubiquity doesn't preselect the right default keyboard layout

2018-04-04 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
I'm able to reproduce Sebastien's success by following the steps in
comment #9.

At the same time I'm able to reproduce the failure as reported by both
Pjotr12345 and myself via these steps:

- boot the iso
- patiently wait, without pressing any key, until Ubiquity boots
  [yes Seb, I can be patient sometimes]
-> Ubiquity is booted with English preselected (see attached image)
- Change to Nederlands
-> The display language changes instantly
- Click the "ubuntu installieren" button
-> The basic English (US) layout is selected

So it seems like the language must be selected before Ubiquity boots to
get a reasonably guessed preselected layout.

But how would the user know that pressing a key initially makes a
difference when they are not told so? The official installation
instruction here:

https://tutorials.ubuntu.com/tutorial/tutorial-install-ubuntu-desktop

does not mention the syslinux menu either.

The desired behavior is reasonably that when you change the language on
Ubiquity's welcome screen, the preselected layout should be changed to
match the selected language (just as the display language is).

Btw, with the press-a-key approach, "Try Ubuntu" enters a session with
the correct layout in /etc/default/keyboard. So yes, this is probably a
pure ubiquity bug, not affecting gnome-settings-daemon.

[Bug 1756098] Re: Potential cache upgrade issue in 3.28 results in unable to install flatpakref due to remote already existing

2018-04-04 Thread Andrew Hayzen
I've not yet been able to reproduce this yet, but while investigating
I've found that the cache folder for gnome-software (and therefore the
gnome software flatpak plugin) has changed from 17.10 to 18.04 - so it
might not be an issue for "real" users upgrading from 17.10?

Eg the flatpak plugin cache folder has changed in the following ways for me:
17.10 ~/.cache/gnome-software/3.26/flatpak
18.04 ~/.cache/gnome-software/flatpak

Although this does raise, why is the cache folder not ~/.cache/gnome-
software/3.28 ? What will happen with 3.30 ?
