[Bug 1731911] Re: Xwayland crashed with SIGABRT in OsAbort() from AbortServer() from FatalError() from xwl_read_events() from ospoll_wait()

2018-04-30 Thread Jeff Silverman
I think I'm experiencing the same problem. I installed Ubuntu 18.04
beta last Tuesday. When I power on my computer, the screen blinks 50-53
times over the span of 2-1/2 minutes (this is perfectly reproducible)
and then for the rest of the session, everything works flawlessly.
After LinuxFest Northwest, I was told to do an apt dist-upgrade and that
did not clear the problem.

I have two video cards:
VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v2/3rd Gen Core
processor Graphics Controller (rev 09)
VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF108 [GeForce GT 430] (rev a1)

I'm not sure what other information would be helpful.

[Bug 1768178] [NEW] color scheme Solarized Dark is incorrect

2018-04-30 Thread popstas
Public bug reported:

Original Solarized Dark looks different. Thereis the pull request on
Github that fixes that - https://github.com/GNOME/gnome-terminal/pull/6

I'm not author of patch and don't checked it, but there is project that
change color scheme to correct, it described here -
https://github.com/Anthony25/gnome-terminal-colors-
solarized/tree/master/colors/dark

Here is built-in palette collected with gsettings get:
['#2E3436',
'#CC',
'#4E9A06',
'#C4A000',
'#3465A4',
'#75507B',
'#06989A',
'#D3D7CF',
'#555753',
'#EF2929',
'#8AE234',
'#FCE94F',
'#729FCF',
'#AD7FA8',
'#34E2E2',
'#EC']

Here is correct palette:
['#070736364242',
'#DCDC32322F2F',
'#8585',
'#B5B58989',
'#26268B8BD2D2',
'#D3D336368282',
'#2A2AA1A19898',
'#E8E8D5D5',
'#2B2B3636',
'#CBCB4B4B1616',
'#58586E6E7575',
'#65657B7B8383',
'#838394949696',
'#6C6C7171C4C4',
'#9393A1A1A1A1',
'#FDFDF6F6E3E3']

I asked the question about long codes - https://github.com/Anthony25
/gnome-terminal-colors-solarized/issues/76, but anyway it matches
original scheme perfectly.

I created bug at launchpad because Gnome restricted creating bugs for
non-gnome developers in their guide
https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/Terminal/ReportingBugs and point to
distribution bug tracker.

[Bug 1768176] [NEW] Unable to suspend computer

2018-04-30 Thread David LaPointe
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 18.04 fails to suspend if a window is open - it merely goes to
the lock screen with a message that 1 process could not be stopped.
[Side note - this behaviour disregards that I have the lock screen
disabled in Privacy settings.]

I closed Chrome and a terminal window to reveal the second behaviour:
When suspend is selected (through power icon) the computer power
momentarily stops (under a second) then the computer returns to the lock
screen after a pause.

Suspend worked very consistently on this hardware on 16.04 LTS in all
situations. No changes have been made to the hardware since (long
before) upgrade to 18.04.

[Bug 1767431] Re: restore type-ahead find, again

2018-04-30 Thread Kaijia Feng
@seb128, that URL is for git clone, the HTML page for the repo is at
[1]. Also, to compile nautilus with the patch, there needs another small
patch after applying the Arch patch, to remove a naming conflict
introduced in an Ubuntu patch in 18.04. I attached my patch.

I have been using the patched nautilus for two days without any problem.
The HCI experience after the patch aligns experience in 16.04 and
earlier, i.e., type to jump to the location of the first file and press
Ctrl+F to search.

[Bug 1767618] Re: system Brightness & Lock app ignores file permissions

2018-04-30 Thread Seth Arnold
This is the way Unix discretionary access controls work. So long as the
files are in Eve's home directory, and she retains ownership of her home
directory, she will be able to rename the ~/.config/ directory and
continue on as she wishes.

Furthermore, the screen locking is handled by a process that runs as her
user account in her user session. She could simply attach a debugger to
it and lock it solid. Or she could write a little program to keep the
X11 session 'active' and thus keep the screen from locking. Or she could
click on a menu entry every time she walks away from the computer to
keep the screen from locking. Or she could write her own screen locking
program that would act as she wishes.

You could try using the shadow 'lock account' tools; note that this is
trivial to bypass if she can sit at the computer during bootup, unless
you also take steps to lock the hard drive, lock the bios, and lock the
grub configuration. But it cannot help you enforce screen locking when
you wish. Not much short of forcibly killing her processes or rebooting
the machine will help.

Thanks

This sounds like it might be related to bug 1766137 or bug 1765261. You
might need to wait till we have fixes for those.

Although since you have found a way to log in, that's good news.

[Bug 1768015] Re: GDM3 defaults to Wayland problem

2018-04-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1767606 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1767606

Given this is an 'Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU N550 @ 1.50GHz', I think this
might be a duplicate of bug 1767606.

Older Intel GPUs (these are both from 2009/2010) use a different Mesa
driver to the current ones, and they support fewer features. So we will
need to find out what GL features mutter/gnome-shell is using that are
not supported here.

[Bug 1767648] Re: Top bar and shell dialogs are not displayed properly when zoom is enabled

2018-04-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I think in most cases the performance benefit from the patch is more
important than being able to zoom the panel and panel menus. So this bug
is the lesser evil on average, but I fully appreciate people who rely on
zoom will disagree.

We're working to get the upstream fix fixed ASAP:

I spent yesterday afternoon on it already...

[Bug 1768166] [NEW] Random crashes

2018-04-30 Thread Ping-Wu
Public bug reported:

I have experienced random ibus-libpinyin crashes in bionic. I cannot
reproduce it, but it occurred at least a few times, even after the
official bionic release. Same crashes were also reported in the Ubuntu
Chinese forum.

Currently, the workaround is to delete the ~/.cache/ibus/libpinyin
folder.

I talked to Peng Wu, ibus-libpinyin's creator and main maintainer, he
suggested that we update the version of ibus-libpinyin to 1.10.

Can we give this update a trial?

making it any easier. As it is, gitlab appears not to be under the
UbuntuOne umbrella and their registration confirmation emails do not get
to my inbox. I am sorry, but I give up.

[Bug 1767908] Re: when I click "install" nothing happens

2018-04-30 Thread igor Cerqueira
It just happened with team viewer and google chrome, but It worked normally
with Skype (.deb).
I noticed It also happens with any app from Ubuntu Software, not just with
".deb"

Step 1
Just click "install" in any app from Ubuntu Software.

Step 2
Back to the previous menu "ALL"(home screen) - Note: Do it before the end of
installation of any app from Ubuntu Software.

Step 3
Open the app page on Ubuntu Software.

Note: Don't close Ubuntu Software during these steps, It will show to
you the icon "Install" again, but you'll notice the app appears
installed in your applications list.

[Bug 1767454] Re: "Other Locations" does not automatically find Samba servers in Ubuntu 18.04

2018-04-30 Thread Andreas Hasenack
Do your servers show up under "Networks" in "other locations", just
alongside the "Windows Network" folder? My NAS does show up there, but
it could be because of some sort of zeroconf broadcast, not smb. My
"windows network" is also empty, I'm just checking if newer windows
installs would show up outside of "windows network" like my NAS does.

2018-04-30 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1768104] [NEW] systemd sometimes misdetects Xen VMs (fixed up-stream)

2018-04-30 Thread dana
Public bug reported:

It appears that Xen-based VMs sometimes report themselves as Microsoft
Hyper-V via CPUID — apparently this is for compatibility with Windows
guests. systemd 237 (as found in Bionic) gives preference to this CPUID
information when detecting Xen, and thus it erroneously assumes that the
guest is running under Hyper-V. This causes Xen-related services (and
anything else that relies on systemd's VM-detection functionality) to
fail.

I *believe* this is a regression from systemd 229 as used in Xenial — we
have at least a few Xen-based VMs that report as Hyper-V via CPUID and
don't have this issue on that version — but i haven't confirmed that for
certain.

Anyway, i've submitted a ticket with more details to the up-stream
project, and that has now been resolved through a fairly simple change
which applies cleanly to the Bionic systemd sources:

https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/8844

Would it be possible to pull this down? As mentioned, Xen-based Ubuntu
VMs can seriously misbehave without it.

Thanks!

Yes, the source is the problem, this bug occurs in snap version! I've
reinstalled the theme using apt and PPA and this problems now longer
occur, system monitor and calculator have the default white theme, which
is better than having no theme at all

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:communitheme/ppa
sudo apt update

then reboot and on login screen change the session to communitheme with

2018-04-30 Thread Giovanni
Hi Daniel,

I'm using the laptop monitor, so only one screen. However, I have to say
that the performance has improved with the latest updates.

[Bug 1768078] [NEW] gnome-control-center network panel missing DNS search

2018-04-30 Thread spinylumpsucker
Public bug reported:

The Unity network panel offered a means to set DNS search data on fixed
IP connections maintained via NetworkManager in /etc/NetworkManager
/system-coonections/ dns-search variable.

This feature is absent in 18.04 Gnome's gnome-control-center network
panel.

Lack of the feature means the dns-search variable is unset which also
causes /etc/resolv.conf to leave the search to be unset. This is
unacceptable in a assigned IP address Enterprise environment.

One workaround is to manually edit the NetworkManager system-connections
file after its creation to set the variable.

Boot does not finish, crashes or stops at:

gdm.servicegdm.service
[ OK ] Started Dispatcher daemon for systemd-networkd.
[ OK ] Created slice User Slice of gdm.
Starting User Manager for UID 120...
[ OK ] Started Session c1 of user gdm.
[ OK ] Started User Manager for UID 120.

And this is where it will sit it goes no further.

I found a fix somewhere that worked.

Edit /etc/gdm3/custom.conf and uncomment 'WaylandEnable=false'

This allowed the boot to finish but I cannont use Firefox to watch
streaming from Netflix or Youtube TV. I have to use Chrome but using
Chrome cause all kinds of unwanted results on my screen caused by moving
the mouse and it is or appears to be totally random.

This is all of the information I have.

[Bug 1756322] Re: 'netplan apply' fails when trying to activate another interface on another QETH device ...

2018-04-30 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+ Server users on s390x configuring qeth devices.
+
+ [Test case]
+ 1) Reconfigure an interface for a QETH device
+ 2) Verify that 'netplan apply' completes successfully, without error.
+
+ [Regression potential]
+ This change has minimal potential for regression, and it only skip qeth-based
devices from "replugging", which "disconnects" them by unbinding and rebinding
the driver. Potential issues would be limited to failure to rename interfaces
without a reboot, for configurations that depend on this (but it already would
not have worked due to netplan apply failing to rebind the device).
+
+ ---
+
When trying to add another interface for a QETH device on a s390x system
