Yeah, I'm not saying that's wrong. It's just the only explanation I can think of because your gnome-shell seems to be stuck in gvfs code querying the (encrypted) home directory. If correct then that's just a bug. Unfortunately I haven't yet found any other reports of such a hang, but that also would be because we don't get automated hang reports, only automated crash reports. So this might be a common problem and we'd never know. Before going so far as to ask you to test with a non-encrypted directory we need to check the most common cause of bugs first. That is third- party extensions. Please disable all your extensions and let us know if the problem then goes away... b'org.gnome.shell' b'enabled-extensions' b"['openweather- extens...@jenslody.de', 'move_cl...@jonathan.bluemosh.com', 'multi- volume@tigersoldier', 'advancedvolumemi...@harry.karvonen.gmail.com', 'gnote_integrat...@awamper.gmail.com', 'mediapla...@patapon.info', 'system-moni...@paradoxxx.zero.gmail.com', 'ubuntu-d...@ubuntu.com', 'AdvancedVolumeMixer_harry.karvonen.gmail.com', 'mconnect_andyholmes.github.io', 'mediaplayer_patapon.info', 'openweather-extension_jenslody.de', 'drive-menu_gnome-shell- extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'ubuntu-dock_ubuntu.com', 'system- monitor_paradoxxx.zero.gmail.com', 'dock-settings@lagrangian', 'dash-to- dock_micxgx.gmail.com', 'pulseaudio-equali...@s8dragon.vn', 'cariboubloc...@git.keringar.xyz', 'move_cl...@rmy.pobox.com', 'drive- m...@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'suspend- button@laserb', 'activities-config@nls1729', 'ubuntu- appindicat...@ubuntu.com', 'gsconn...@andyholmes.github.io', 'extension- reloader@nls1729']" Start by disabling drive-related extensions like the drive-menu ones... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1781647 Title: gnome-shell crashed with SIGABRT in __GI___poll() from g_main_context_poll() from g_main_context_iterate() from g_main_loop_run() from g_dbus_connection_send_message_with_reply_sync() from g_dbus_connection_call_sync_internal() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1781647/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Open Shotwell 2. plug-in Android phone, tried both MTP or PTP modes 3. photo import never starts Additional info: This used to work in Fedora 27, but stopped as soon as I upgraded to Fedora 28. I traced it down to udev not tagging the device properly with ID_GPHOTO2 according to the udev rule: /usr/lib/udev/rules.d/40-libgphoto2.rules:ATTRS{idVendor}=="04e8", ATTRS{idProduct}=="6860", ENV{ID_GPHOTO2}="1", ENV{GPHOTO2_DRIVER}="proprietary", ENV{ID_MEDIA_PLAYER}="1" If you run `udevadm monitor -p` you will see that once you plug in the device, the "add" event tags the device properly, but then comes the "bind" event which untags it! The workaround in my case is the following change in the udev rules of libgphoto2: diff /usr/lib/udev/rules.d/40-libgphoto2.rules{.orig,} 7c7 < ACTION!="add", GOTO="libgphoto2_rules_end" --- > ACTION!="add|bind", GOTO="libgphoto2_rules_end" However this is not specific to libgphoto2! If you run the above udevadm command, you'll see that more tags added at the "add" event are being removed with the "bind" event. Probably all udev rules need to be changed! I believe I've found related bug reports, with much more software misbehaving: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=387454 https://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/modemmanager-devel/2018-May/006417.html https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=890641 https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/8221 Given that the brokenness appeared once I updated to Fedora 28, which included an update of systemd from 234 to 238, and given the above bug reports, I'm filing this under the "systemd" project. Feel free to recategorise as you deem. [Bug 1782003] [NEW] A mouse glitch in "Auto-hide the Dock" mode
Public bug reported: Initially reported at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome- shell/issues/416 and told that it is an Ubuntu feature and should be reported at Ubuntu tracker. This bug was fixed in the package nplan - 0.32~16.04.6 --- nplan (0.32~16.04.6) xenial; urgency=medium [ Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre ] * tests/integration.py: Fix autopkgtests involving bonds/bridges to do proper cleanup every time, so later tests don't unnecessarily wait for an interface not configured to be up. (LP: #1775097) [ Daniel Axtens ] * Generate udev rules files to rename devices (LP: #1770082) Due to a systemd issue[1], using link files to rename interfaces doesn't work as expected. Link files will not rename an interface if it was already renamed, and interfaces are renamed in initrd, so set-name will often not work as expected when rebooting. However, rules files will cause a renaming, even if the interface has been renamed in initrd. -- Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre Tue, 03 Jul 2018 12:55:11 -0400 ** Changed in: nplan (Ubuntu Xenial) Status: Fix Committed => Fix Released ** Changed in: netplan.io (Ubuntu Bionic) Status: Fix Committed => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1770082 Title: systemd-networkd not renaming devices on boot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/netplan/+bug/1770082/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1779238] Re: Mouting a disk or iso image asks for sudo password
I have re-uploaded it with a different version number. Wasn't really anything bad, it's just that we generally prefer to reserve the ~.1 versioning notation for cases where the usual scheme doesn't quite work (or some special direct backports of new upstream versions). For single uploads like this it's just enough to use the regular SRU versioning. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-disk-utility in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1779238 Title: Mouting a disk or iso image asks for sudo password To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-disk-utility/+bug/1779238/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Hello Laurent, or anyone else affected, Accepted udisks2 into bionic-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/udisks2/2.7.6-3ubuntu0.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository. Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users. If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed. I don't think there's anything particularly unusual about my home folder. I formatted the root partition as btrfs instead of ext4 when I did the installation, so the Ubuntu installer put /home into its own subvolume. I also asked the installer to encrypt the home folder, so it's encrypted with ecryptfs.
