[Bug 1174162] Re: chrome-browser makes gnome-keyring-daemon use 100% cpu

2018-10-12 Thread Boris Gjenero
This never happened in 18.04, and started happening after upgrading to
18.10. The keyring daemon when taking 100% CPU on one core also seems to
hang and not respond to applications. I've had Chrome hang on startup,
and I've had ssh and scp hang.

[Bug 1264368] Re: GLib-CRITICAL **: Source ID was not found when attempting to remove it - warning when leaving Network menu of g-c-c

2018-10-12 Thread Derek Poon
The message is emitted by glib:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/glib/commit/a919be3d39150328874ff647fb2c2be7af3df996

The commit log description is: "gmain: Warn when g_source_remove()
fails". So why is it calling g_critical() instead of g_warning()?
Obviously, it's not a critical error, if people are able to live with
these annoying messages for five years with no obvious ill effects.
Critical errors are often routed to /dev/console, and it's clearly
inappropriate to escalate these messages that high.

sufficient, that's fine, please just call it out.)

[Bug 1797636] [NEW] unattended do-release-upgrade to cosmic asks about /etc/gdm3/custom.conf

2018-10-12 Thread Paul Larson
Public bug reported:

I'm trying to do some automated testing that involved upgrading a system
from bionic to cosmic, so I need it to not ask for user input.

Before running do-release-upgrade, the system got a fresh dist-upgrade
and reboot.

To avoid interactive responses, I'm using:
$ sudo do-release-upgrade -d -f DistUpgradeViewNonInteractive

Part way through the upgrade, I do get prompted for something though:
Setting up gdm3 (3.30.1-1ubuntu1) ...

Configuration file '/etc/gdm3/custom.conf'
==> Modified (by you or by a script) since installation.
==> Package distributor has shipped an updated version.
What would you like to do about it ? Your options are:
Y or I : install the package maintainer's version
N or O : keep your currently-installed version
D : show the differences between the versions
Z : start a shell to examine the situation
The default action is to keep your current version.
*** custom.conf (Y/I/N/O/D/Z) [default=N] ?

I also found this in /var/log/dist-upgrade/main.log:
2018-10-12 16:36:44,910 WARNING got a conffile-prompt from dpkg for file:
'/etc/gdm3/custom.conf'
2018-10-12 16:36:49,915 ERROR error 'a bytes-like object is required, not
'str'' when trying to write to the conffile

Shouldn't the '-f DistUpgradeViewNonInteractive' have prevented this
from getting asked?

2018-10-12 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Ok, I'm reopening this because the default could be better. I have filed

+ Original Bug Report
+ ===
  Ubuntu 17.10 final
  gdm3 package version is 3.26.1-3ubuntu2
-

  Problem details:

The file /etc/gdm3/greeter.dconf-defaults got this option commented by
default:

  # disable-user-list=true

I've used this option with Ubuntu 17.04 (GNOME session) in order to not
show any profile in greeter, as a security measure.

But with Ubuntu 17.10, if you uncomment that line Ubuntu will not boot
(really will not start gdm3, so no greeter is shown).

-
  How to reproduce the problem:
  - Fresh install Ubuntu 17.10 desktop (for instance, in a virtual machine).
  - Uncomment the line "# disable-user-list=true" in file
"/etc/gdm3/greeter.dconf-defaults".
  - Reboot...

[Bug 1724944] Re: gdm3 doesn't start with disable-user-list=true option enabled

2018-10-12 Thread Jeremy Bicha
I am closing this bug. I believe the problem was that you didn't
uncomment the [org/gnome/login-screen] line.

To disable the user list on the login screen in Ubuntu 18.04 and newer:
1. Edit /etc/gdm3/greeter.dconf-defaults

You can use your preferred editor, but I suggest:

gedit admin:///etc/gdm3/greeter.dconf-defaults

2. Remove the # from the front of these two lines to uncomment them:
[org/gnome/login-screen]
 disable-user-list=true

3. Save the file

4. Reboot your computer.
On Ubuntu 18.10 and newer, you can probably skip rebooting and just run this
command:

sudo systemctl reload gdm

[Bug 1759462] Re: Keyboard shortcuts not operational on 18.04

2018-10-12 Thread e-fernbach
have the problem mentioned above, some shortcuts work some don't in particular
ctrl-alt-t for opening a terminal, ctrl-alt-c in libreoffice.
What I observe is: ctrl-alt switches input source (I have two keyboards layouts
defined en and de) although in the shortcut settings in settings the shortcut
for switching between input sources is defined differently.
If I try to change the shortcut to open a terminal from ctrl-alt-t in the
settings menu to again ctrl-alt-t, the shortcut ctrl-t is shown in the menue
although I pressed ctrl-alt-t. If I accept the selection, the new shortcut
ctrl-t works.
When in libreoffice ctrl-alt switches input source and ctrl-alt-c does not work
to add comments.
Thus it looks like the problem might be with the alt key. Just guessing

Here is my system: Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS with Gnome desktop 3.28.2, no compiz.
I remember that right after installing the shortcuts worked well.

[Bug 1795637] Re: No login screen when booting Cosmic due to plymouth racing with the rest of the boot process and not releasing DRM devices in time

2018-10-12 Thread Christopher Patti
Hi there! I'm looking for suggestions on further testing I can do to
disambiguate the situation I'm seeing from this bug.

I reported https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1796614
which was marked as a duplicate of this bug.

However, I now have this package installed (Output of apt policy below),
and I am still seeing a blank screen with a blinking cursor at initial
boot, but can flip to a different VT, login and run startx and
everything functions normally.

Am I

A) Mis-understanding what I need to do in order to test this fix, or
B) missing some other subtlety that would lead to my expectations that this bug
should go away to be invalid or
C) in fact observing a different bug altogether that isn't a duplicate of this
one?

Any hints anyone can throw my way would be very much appreciated. Thanks
in advance!

[Bug 1797543] Re: Gnome-software - unable to update software - Button Restart & Update, restarts no updates applied

2018-10-12 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Ignore that, I can confirm with today's cosmic on a fresh install
- install daily
- open update-manager to refresh the apt index
- gnome-software displays an "updates are available" notification and the
update tab has the OS updates and a restart updates button

That's problematic especially that it's likely that the "restart"
button sends packagekit in offline upgrade mode which isn't working
without issue on Ubuntu/Debian due to debconf

[Bug 1546634] Re: Is "Restart & Install" appropriate for Ubuntu

2018-10-12 Thread Tino Meinen
I see that the original bug was reported 18-02-2016. The title on this bug here
speaks about "Restart and Install" whereas the issue in our case, the button
has "Restart & Update".
Also, the status of this bug is "Fix released" (March 2016)

Summarising I think I should raise a new bug for this, as it seems to be
a new issue unrelated to the issue reported in this bug.

[Bug 1797543] [NEW] Gnome-software - unable to update software - Button Restart & Update, restarts no updates applied

2018-10-12 Thread Tino Meinen
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 18.10 beta (up to date as of 12-10-2018)
Ubuntu software 3.30.2

DESCRIPTION OF BEHAVIOUR
When updates are available, Ubuntu-Software shows updates are available in the
"Updates" tab.

One of the updates available shows "OS Updates"

The grey coloured heading right above the available updates, has
"Requires Restart" on the left and a green button "Restart & Update".

When the green button is clicked, a popup window appears immediately
showing "Restart, the system will restart automatically in 60 seconds"
counting down. The restart can be cancelled or activated.

When activated (either automatically or manually) the computer restarts
immediately and no software is being updated.

After logging in and starting up Ubuntu Software, the Updates tab checks
and then shows the same updates being available as before.

---
The button on the Updates tab should rather offer to update all available
software and only offer to restart the computer after the updates are completed.

2018-10-12 Thread Michal Predotka
Public bug reported:

I've got a strange notification. See the screenshot attached. It's in Polish.
In English it would be something like that:
"Extra drivers needed...
Application Application needs extra drivers"

** Affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Attachment added: "ConfuseMe.png"

[Bug 1682542] Re: Add support for top bars on all monitors to allow for multi-monitor support in primary extensions - apps-menu, places-menu, topbar, etc

2018-10-12 Thread Che
I second the notion that adding support for multiple top bars would be a
step in the right direction for multi-monitor support.

Also in regards to the comment that it would be non-trivial to implement
this, in particular the part about: "[can't] use the monitor with the
top bar as indicator for the primary monitor in Settings" - that sounds
strictly like a code improvement, and a good reason to do this.

The primary monitor should have a unique attribute that designates it
this way - other features tied to or built on top of it should not act
as the method for determining which monitor is the primary one in the
first place - we're breaking the single utility principle here no? It
certainly would feel wrong to me if I tweaked my own Linux system and
moved the top bar to a secondary display and suddenly the Ubuntu OS
started treating that one as my primary display.

This refactoring would also make changes like this in the future much
easier to achieve, since the stack doesn't have un-intuitive
relationship to monitor components (it instead relates directly to the
monitor class/module/object). Just my 2c.
