[Bug 1740894] Re: KEY_RFKILL is not passed to userspace

2018-10-25 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Change uploaded to bionic and cosmic

** Package changed: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) => xkeyboard-config
(Ubuntu)

** Changed in: xkeyboard-config (Ubuntu)
   Status: Triaged => Fix Committed

** Description changed:

+ * Impact
+ the airplane mode key doesn't work in GNOME
+
+ * Test case
+ Use a laptop with a key to activate airplane mode, it should toggle the
corresponding mode on/off when used
+
+ * Regression potential
+ The change adds a new key definition but doesn't touch any existing one,
nothing specific to test out of the new key working
+
+ -
+
There are a couple things going on, that could be fixed by a Debian or
  Ubuntu maintainer:

  - libxkbdcommon needs to be updated from 0.7.1 to 0.7.2. This introduces
  the RFKill key: https://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/wayland-
  devel/2017-August/034721.html

  - x11-proto needs a new release. This commit added RFKill, but it is not
  in a release:

https://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/proto/xproto/commit/?id=98a32d328e7195e12c38baa877917335bceffbaf

  - Likely other X11 packages need to be rebuilt.

[Bug 1799947] [NEW] Application windows in 18.04.01 go black but launcher is still visible

2018-10-25 Thread Paul Chambre
Public bug reported:

Intermittently and randomly, all application windows will go black. They
are still there, and can be interacted with with keyboard shortcuts or
if you know where to click with the mouse, but they are not drawn.

The launcher itself is still displayed.

Clicking Show Applications briefly draws the application window before
switching to the background and application icons. The application icons
are shown correctly. Selecting one switches to a black window for that
application. The application window is again briefly displayed when
dismissing the application icons by again clicking Show Applications.

TTYs work normally.

Killing gnome (from another TTY) and allowing it to relaunch results in
a normal display again.

This is being seen on an hp 6910p. This system also exhibits a corrupted
lock screen since upgrade to 18.04.01. Neither of these behaviors were
seen during two years running 16.04.01.

Chrome is being used. Current 70.00.3538.77 (64-bit). Chrome is the most
commonly used application on this machine, so it is possible that the
behavior is being triggered by Chrome, however, the behavior affects all
applications, including system applications like software update and
terminal.

[Bug 1245473] Re: Binding ctrl+shift, alt+shift, etc for switching keyboard layout makes shortcuts with ctrl+shift, etc not working in any program

2018-10-25 Thread nake89
Hello,

Putting CTRL+SHIFT as the keyboard layout change hotkey should not
disable all CTRL+SHIFT+

I can confirm this bug is real and is affecting more and more people.
CTRL-SHIFT used not to conflict with other keybindings. Now it does.

Witnessed here: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1009352/os-keyboard-
shortcuts-conflict-with-apps-keyboard-shortcuts-in-gnome-3

I really wish this bug would be fixed. Please.

I can confirm that upgrading to 18.10 solves this issue. While there are
still a few caveats (e.g. toolbar becoming intransparent when launching

Well done, Ubuntu, thank you very much!

1) Could we please get a title for this dialog that tells users which
program threw up that popup? Normal users surely don't know how to use
xprop and they shouldn't need to know.

2) "The requested file could not be found". Could you please also
mention the name of the requested file?

[Bug 1798790] Re: Ubuntu 18.10 login screen never appears when using the Nvidia driver

2018-10-25 Thread Nikola Chikos
Just to say that I've tested the '#WaylandEnable=false' method (I was
having the same problem with the nVidia drivers) and it works great!

[Bug 1800043] [NEW] nautilus cannot write on nfs file share

2018-10-25 Thread Peter Neugebauer
Public bug reported:

I installed Ubuntu 18.04LTS comming from 16.04LTS where I did not have this
weird problem: If I mount a NFS share from a file server (i.e. Synology DS 418)
Nautilus is not able to perform any write access to it (write, delete, make new
directory,...). I can do all of this operations by using shell commands (touch,
cp, mkdir...) in a terminal window. Also, nautilus can perform these actions if
I start it with root privileges.
Even stranger is the following: even though nautilus cannot write into the
mounted shares it is able to write into its subfolders. This bug seems to
affect others as well:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1000973/nautilus-cannot-write-into-1st-directory-of-a-nfs-share

I created a logfile of the failure as requested.

I saw that it is perhaps a timing issue, because one time (out of
perhaps 20 tries) today it seamed to work correctly.

[Bug 1797518] Re: System freezes after suspend

2018-10-25 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It seems everything started to fail after resume because the X server
went away:

Okt 25 05:43:31 GS1 gnome-shell[1346]: gnome-shell: Fatal IO error 0
(Success) on X server :0.

However Xorg did not crash. It just decided to shut down on system
resume:

Okt 25 05:43:31 GS1 /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[1302]: (II) Server
terminated successfully (0). Closing log file.

I don't know why Xorg would decide to shut down on resume. Maybe it was
a delayed reaction to using the power button? If you use the power
button in a normal Linux console then indeed the normal behaviour is to
shut down.

Maybe the problem was that gnome-shell misinterpreted "Fatal IO error 0
(Success)" which then started the shutdown.

[Bug 1797518] Re: Xorg terminates (cleanly) on resume from suspend

2018-10-25 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Oooh... that was the login screen's Xorg shutting down. So Xorg exiting
was not an error:

Okt 25 05:43:31 GS1 /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[1302]: (II) Server terminated
successfully (0). Closing log file.
Okt 25 05:43:31 GS1 kernel: rfkill: input handler enabled
Okt 25 05:43:31 GS1 gdm-launch-environment][1247]:
pam_unix(gdm-launch-environment:session): session closed for user gdm

Almost as if a VT switch has happened on resume.

However we're now talking about a different problem to that in the bug
description. The bug description talks about problems during login. But
your title was "System freezes after suspend".

So which bug would you like to discuss?

[Bug 1797518] Re: System freezes on resume from suspend

2018-10-25 Thread Marcel Beerli
My main issue is "on resume from suspend" which I never had with 16.04. I
probably had 30-50 resumes before I rebooted after a kernel update.
In the mean time I am on 4.15.0-38.
I assume I removed the gnome-shell, also I switched from nouveau to
nvidia-driver-390
I had several (5) resumes after my last reboot and no issue yet. It does not
happen all the time.
I did change the subject as suggested.

[Bug 1370953] Re: layout switch is delayed

2018-10-25 Thread Oleg
I'm experiencing this bug on elementary OS 5.0. After looking through
different reports I can see that it comes from ubuntu.

Sad that there seems to be no progress on its resolution after several
years :(

Did somebody found a workaround with setxkbmap or something else?

The above link is actually bug 1796607.

Interesting. Someone else mentioned yesterday that same crash.

Could you include you journalctl log after getting the issue (seems like
apport didn't collect it in the files you attached)

Just installed nautilus from bionic-propose, did a bit of testing
(including receipt from "Bug Description"), and no problems so far.

[Bug 1799787] Re: Dash to Dock behaves strangely then gnome-shell crashes when forcing a restart

2018-10-25 Thread Paul White
Thanks for your reply Daniel.

It's now looking as if the problems with the dash are a symptom of a
crash rather than a cause. After rebooting and disabling all extensions
I can restart gnome-shell with 'Alt F2 > r and enter' several times with
a problem.

After starting some applications gnome-shell won't restart without
crashing and sending me back to the log in screen.

Step 1 didn't lead to a new bug report being created.
Step 2 didn't show anything recent
Step 3 produced the following link:

https://errors.ubuntu.com/oops/1edb338e-d831-11e8-923b-fa163e102db1 but
step 1 failed again.
