This file is detected as application/x-sharedlib instead of
application/x-executable, by the s-m-i test suite, if I add it there.

Patch for the test suite: http://www.davidfaure.fr/kde/smi.diff
+ downloading http://www.davidfaure.fr/kde/ls into tests/.

Result:
ls, 'data' test: expected application/x-executable, got application/x-sharedlib
ls, 'file' test: expected application/x-executable, got application/x-sharedlib

There must be a bug in the ELF magic for application/x-sharedlib and/or
application/x-executable.

Well we need a way to find out that /bin/ls is an executable, and

However I don't know anything about the ELF file format, so I don't know
what the problem actually is (and whether it offers reliable magic).

Admittedly the magic for x-sharedlib is the one that's much less useful, shared
libs are typically called *.so or *.so.[0-9\.]* :-)
But I wouldn't dare just removing all magic from x-sharedlib... unless someone
can prove that the ELF file format makes no actual difference between shared
libs and executables?

AFAIK, a shared object could be a PIE program if it has a (valid)

It should be noted that glibc's ELF loader (ld-linux.so, exact name
depending on architecture) is a shared object and a valid program, but
doesn't have an interpretor header, but that's the only exception I
aware of.

IOTH, glibc's libc.so is a shared object with a valid interpretor,
making it a valid program (try it !). Reporting such library as a
program might be misleading for end user.

Anyway, PT_INTERP header not at a fixed location in the ELF file, so it
cannot be described in shared-mime-info database.

(It's a pity PIE ELF files were not describe with a new ELF type or at
least a flag :(

It'd be great to have some sort of resolution here.

That's not going to happen unless somebody has a patch. Reading comment
4, that seems unlikely. If you have applications that require this deep
level of knowledge of the different formats, you'll probably want to use
something more precise than the shared-mime spec.

Would be best if we could tell the user the app isn't installed and
offer the option to get it.

What is the relation with shared-mime-info, and why should it be a bug in it?

Nothing to do with that. OpenOffice documents are zip files with a bunch
of files in it. We advertise that fact in shared-mime-info.

file-roller is launched because we don't have LibreOffice or OpenOffice
installed so the file manager looks for the next best handler: the zip
file handler.

Aside from debugging, it should never be opened within file-roller.

So I think we should just remove the sub-class of zip in this case, but
it would probably break mime detection.

Thanks for the clarification, given the bug description was not clear
about it.

This sounds like an (ugly) ad-hoc solution just to solve this specific case.
I'm pretty sure there could be (now or in the future) more cases when you want
to handle a mime type but not one or more specific subclasses of it, so my
suggestion would be discussing it in the xdg ml for a better solution (most
probably at application level, out of shared-mime-info).

What other mime-types have that problem? I can't see any, so it's not
that bad a solution.

None, just like the .odp mime has no problem either.

The solution is bad because the zip inheritance is perfectly fine from a
shared-mime-info point of view (it represents mime types, after all).
If the problem is not letting a specific user-level file archiver application
see openoffice documents as zip, then let's find an application-level solution

[Bug 226436]

2018-11-07 Thread A-pirard-hotmail
It's an error to [try to] rename standard folders because there may exist
references to their files.
That is why xdg-user-dirs does not rename nonempty folders.
But this is indeed inconvenient and there is a solution that is not.
The correct solution is to create symbolic links as explained in
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=32342
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xdg-user-dirs/+bug/556933
In consequence, I have made the incorrect bugs duplicates of these.

[Bug 1801602] Re: Gnome 3 fullscreen doesn't work for some applications

2018-11-07 Thread Radoslaw
Further investigation shows that the abe game fails fullscreen only when
I have additional xrandr mode added. It's set within session startup
script with commands:

output="HDMI-0"
xrandr --nograb --newmode "960x540" 40.75 960 992 1088 1216 540 543 548 562
-hsync +vsync
xrandr --nograb --addmode $output 960x540

When I disable the mode addition abe runs fine fullscreen. Way to Go
fails always no matter the additional mode is inserted or not.

Steps to Reproduce:

It does turn it off. Except that bluetoothd and/or the kernel will fail
to make it undiscoverable.

Sender ":1.13387" is the Bluetooth settings. See how it requests for
"Discoverable" to be switched off, receives a response to the call
saying that Discoverable is now off, but receives a signal that
Discoverable changed back to "on" after a short time.

2018-11-07 Thread GiuseppeN
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1798091 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1798091

Solution:
1) sudo apt purge evince

2) delete .cache/thumbnails

3) reboot

4) install evince using synaptic

It works like a charm

[Bug 293832]

2018-11-07 Thread elaniean
In many incidents, the printer configuration tool has a wrong driver
(like DCP-7025 BR-Script) is loaded. then you must have to identify
which driver tools are unnecessary. So to manually or ask to Brother
Printer Support for solving the problem simply choose the correct driver
in the tool. Know more by visiting the website
https://www.printererrorrepair.com/brother-printer-support-phone-number
