[Bug 1804166] Re: Asks for "unnamed" key instead of real name

Ok, with seahorse you can actually rename the key, but it's original
name is not "Unnamed" it is "Secure Shell Key".

I'm sorry to write "more than" one problems into one bug, but from a users POV
they are all the same - seen as "usability" bug. If you tell mo more how I can
help, I can also file separate ones if this is needed. But to gather
information, maybe it's best to leave it ATM as one?

down earlier so we will need you to search for evidence of the 'gnome-

[Bug 1789642] Re: Nautilus highlights new filename without focusing input field.

2019-01-30 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug report. The issue you describe seems to be rather
with the fileselector widget and not the filemanager application,
reassigning to gtk.

Could you describe exact steps to trigger the issue? Trying those
- open firefox
- hit ctrl-S
- type

the filename is replaced, which means the focus is correctly on the text
entry ... what happens in your case?

[Bug 1812359] Re: Cannot install Ubuntu 18.04 in Intel Atom D425 when an external monitor is connected

2019-01-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Comment #57 is an image. Please remember to attach a log instead :)

Also, I have been thinking that the Intel Atom D425 was a laptop. Not
just because that's more common, but also because the log in comment #35
mentions it is trying to render to a laptop screen (LVDS) and a VGA
monitor at the same time:

Jan 29 09:45:01 test /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[656]: (II) intel(0): switch to
mode 1366x768@60.4 on LVDS1 using pipe 1, position (0, 0), rotation normal,
reflection none
Jan 29 09:45:02 test /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[656]: (II) intel(0): switch to
mode 1366x768@59.8 on VGA1 using pipe 0, position (1366, 0), rotation normal,
reflection none

If the Atom D425 machine is not a laptop then I think this explains a
lot...

If your Atom D425 machine only ever has one screen and that screen is
the VGA monitor then the above log shows the main issue here -- Ubuntu
thinks you have two screens when you only have one. And if it thinks you
have two screens then it's likely trying to put the login screen on that
LVDS display which doesn't exist --> bug 1760849.

But it's not just the above bugs you are experiencing. If your Atom D425
machine doesn't have a built-in laptop monitor (LVDS) then there is
clearly a bug in the Intel Xorg driver for trying to drive that screen.
It seems there is no EDID but (unsurprisingly) can't tell that there's
really no screen there at all.

Jan 29 09:45:30 test gsd-color[1080]: unable to get EDID for xrandr-LVDS1:
unable to get EDID for
output

IF it is true that the Atom D425 machine is not a laptop, and it does
not have a built-in screen, then I think the next step is to find out if
it is the kernel misdetecting the non-existent LVDS screen, or the Xorg
driver.

Next, please run this command and send us the output:

  grep . /sys/class/drm/*/enabled

Also, the log in comment #41 seems to show the system isn't starting in
that case because of a crash:

Jan 29 16:29:17 test org.gnome.Shell.desktop[672]: (EE)
Jan 29 16:29:17 test org.gnome.Shell.desktop[672]: Fatal server error:
Jan 29 16:29:17 test org.gnome.Shell.desktop[672]: (EE) wl_drm@4: error 0:

Jan 29 16:29:18 test gnome-session-binary[628]: WARNING: App
'org.gnome.Shell.desktop' exited with code 1
Jan 29 16:29:18 test gnome-session-binary[628]: Unrecoverable failure in
required component org.gnome.Shell.desktop

That would be the same crash mentioned in comments #23 and #24. So we
will need to debug that too. Please look in /var/crash for crash files
and if found send them by running:

  ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash

Unfortunately I can't access bug 1731911 that you mentioned in comment
#24. Was that a typo?

[Bug 1813825] Re: "driverless" printer workflow has bad usability/ is partly broken

2019-01-30 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thanks for the info, the logs don't have much though :/

The journal has that
gnome-control-c[31150]: gtk_container_add: assertion 'GTK_IS_CONTAINER
(container)' failed

It would be interesting to get a backtrace of that warning, unsure if
you know your were around debugging enough to do that though?

Basically you would need to
- enable the debug packages repository as explained on
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Debug%20Symbol%20Packages and install the
gnome-control-center-dbgsym libgtk-3-0-dbgsym libglib2.0-0-dbgsym at least
- get a backtrace using gdb, the principle is explained on
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace but to get the one from the log you would
need to "b g_log" and type "c" until you get to a call corresponding to the
gtk_container_add warning

If you want to try that it would be nice, if it's too technical for you
that's fine

Reading the description again I think the issues are

1- there is no easy way to "block" a specific ipp printer to be auto-
added, which can either be a feature missing from cups or one that
exists but has no UI interface, Till should know about that

2- the 'cups-pk-helper: setting default printer to
Kyocera_ECOSYS_P6026cdn failed: client-error-not-found' error, which is
probably a problem on the cups/cups-pk-helper side. It's weird that
nothing got logged about in the journal or cups logs though...

3- the settings UI not dealing well without the 'situation' (unsure what
bits are confusing it though)

Does system-config-printer deal works better? Does it list the right
printer and allow you to see the options or does it have issues as well?

[Bug 1807056] Re: Occasional Keyboard freeze

2019-01-30 Thread Dilip
Even after erasing and fresh install using 18.04 live USB, the freeze
issue exists. When I searched the word " Communitheme in the Ubuntu
partition and I found a bunch of them still exists. Please check the
screenshot. Is there any way to remove these residues of Yaru ?

[Bug 1812359] Re: Cannot install Ubuntu 18.04 in Intel Atom D425 when an external monitor is connected

2019-01-30 Thread d a i s y
Note1: Atom D425 machine only has one screen and that screen is the VGA monitor.

For comment #23 and #24, after then I reinstalled Ubuntu as mentioned
here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1812359/comments/40

Now there is Ubuntu 19.04 installed,
I've done
   grep . /sys/class/drm/*/enabled

and attaching two files:

1. journalctl -b-1 > 19.04_boot1.txt
2. dpkg -l > dpkgl.txt

FYI, I've installed Ubuntu 18.04.2 and 19.04 in two different disk(so I
don't need to do re-installation every time, only one disk installed in
Atom D425 machine at a time ), so I can give any time you need any of
log.

2019-01-30 Thread piviul
Hi Sebastien, thank you very much to spend your time to try solve this
bug...

The mount is performed browsing the network and selecting a server but
the same happens if write directly in the nautilus address bar an
address like smb://servername/sharename

If I launch in a terminal the command journalctl -f nothing is logged
when I try to connect a samba share. If I have to enable some flag to
have a verbose log please let me know.

[Bug 1813825] Re: "driverless" printer workflow has bad usability/ is partly broken

2019-01-30 Thread Christian González
Ok; I never used gdb before, just visual debuggers.
I'm not sure this is not a blind alley. The "gtk_container_add warning" is not
reproducible and has IMHO nothing to do with this bug(s) (just IMHO).

As far as I understood, "b g_log" sets a breakpoint at the g_log() function,
right?
Just too understand right; I first have to set "b g_log", and then "run" the
program, right, and "c" means "continue".
I tried everything here, including deleteing the printer, and watching it
respawn. Only logs I got was:

Thread 1 "gnome-control-c" hit Breakpoint 1, g_log
(log_domain=log_domain@entry=0x556b6a97 "printers-cc-panel",
log_level=log_level@entry=G_LOG_LEVEL_DEBUG,
format=format@entry=0x556b8428 "Could not check 'Clean' maintenance
command: %s") at ../../../../glib/gmessages.c:1428
1428in ../../../../glib/gmessages.c

Which seems completely unrelated to me.

BTW: system-config-printer does NOT show the "driverless" printer at
all.

[Bug 1771785] Re: Files doesn't snap to the sides

2019-01-30 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug report, as you wrote it's because the minimal
side is higher than half screen. It's a low level resolution and easy to
workaround by moving the dock/changing the icon size/not showing the
nautilus sidebar. We are not going to change nautilus to accomodate that
feature on small screen so closing

This bug also started affecting me since a couple of weeks ago. Gnome
shell extensions appear as switched on in gnome tweak but they are
actually disabled. I noticed the bug appear more or less randomly after
recovery from suspend or even from black screen. Resuming from black
screen the shell theme appears as reverted back to default in the login
screen. Also the ubuntu-dock appear in the login screen.

[Bug 1813429] Re: Attempting to copy music (m4a) files from laptop to external device (LG G7 phone connected via usb cable) via mass copy-paste of a list of directories. Randomly, copy/paste will stop

2019-01-30 Thread Sebastien Bacher
The log has that error at 08:06:01, do you remember if that's the time
where you saw the problem?

gvfsd[2501]: PTP_ERROR_IO: failed to open session, trying again after resetting
USB interface
gvfsd[2501]: LIBMTP libusb: Attempt to reset device
kernel: usb 2-4: USB disconnect, device number 6
gvfsd[2501]: inep: usb_get_endpoint_status(): No such device
gvfsd[2501]: outep: usb_get_endpoint_status(): No such device
gvfsd[2501]: libusb_open() failed!: No such file or directory
gvfsd[2501]: LIBMTP PANIC: Could not init USB on second attempt

The log suggest that the lower level stack kernel/libmtp acted like if
the device vanished and got plugged again. Are you confident the cable
doesn't have a loose connection? Does copying from the same device/cable
works fine from other computer (or ideally from the same computer on
another OS)?

[Bug 1813304] Re: keyboard layout doesn't properly change on login screen

2019-01-30 Thread Tim Tisdall
bug 1725676 is about not being able to select a different keyboard
layout while this is about being able to select a different layout, but
it not actually working. It's unrelated.

bug 1652618 sounds similar, but the solution makes it seem to be
different. I went in and changed the settings to ensure both Qwerty and
Dvorak are options on the login screen, but switching between the
layouts seems to have no affect and always remains the default one.

bug 1566357 seems to be about a particular layout that's non-English...
I'm using Qwerty and Dvorak which are both English layouts. My issue is
also not about a layout not working, but that it's not switching to it.
I change the selector to "Dvorak", but I still have to type as if it's
"Qwerty" for my password to work.

[Bug 1754702] Re: Delay before you can type after switching input source

2019-01-30 Thread sphericalhorse
I'm using CapsLock to switch keyboard layouts, and I'm also affected by this
bug.
I believe that now the priority of this bug is underestimated, because most of
the people use one and sometimes two layouts, so they may not face with this
problem often and assume that it's not so important. But when you live in a
bilingual country and use 3 layouts all the time (I'm using UA/RU/EN), this
problem becomes super annoying.
For me personally, it's the biggest reason why I'm not going to upgrade Ubuntu
from 16.04 to 18.04 on my work PC.

I came here from https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1790335, and it seems like
that bug is also
a duplicate of the current bug.

At this point we should wait for Till (who is the maintainer of the

I see it in 16.04 (as in the report) which is LTS and still supposed to

you mean "smb://server/share"? because your previous paste was "gio:
file:server/share: volume doesn?t implement mount" or does it ask
for credential after logging that error?

If you did get a different behaviour when using smb://... could you get
the GVFS_DEBUG=1 gvfsd -r log again?

the command
$ gio mount //server/share

ask me user, domain and password. If for each question i press return (I
don't enter username neither domain neither password) the share is
mounted correctly exactly as I was entering the current username, domain
and password. In other word seems that gio use the cached credential...

I can't understand but this is the result.

[Bug 1164016] Re: restore type-ahead find

2019-01-30 Thread teo1978
@Javier

if by "they" you mean the upstream Nautilus developers, that's right:
they don't even understand it's a bug. The Gnome development team, or at
least the part responsible for Naitulus, has proven many times to be a
bunch of idiots. For the last several years, they have taken many design
decision that completely destroyed the usability of their software.

But the Ubuntu team seems to be more intelligent. In the past they have
patched several things in Nautilus and perhaps other Gnome products to
fix the idiotic mistakes made upstream. This was one of them.

Now the question is: does Ubuntu consider it worth to keep doing the
patching to fix the upstream idiocies in Nautilus? If that is the case,
then this, among other things, needs to be fixed. Again.

If not, if they are going to rely on the upstream developers fixing
upstream issues, then they must drop Nautilus in favor of some other
file manager that is not maintained by a bunch of idiots.

[Bug 1813825] Re: "driverless" printer workflow has bad usability/ is partly broken

2019-01-30 Thread Till Kamppeter
First, driverless printers (automatically created queues for IPP
printers) can be generated by cups-browsed and by CUPS.

So as a first approach you could try to stop cups-browsed to see whether
you still get auto-created printers or not.

sudo systemctl stop cups-browsed

stops cu[ps-browsed and

sudo systemctl start cups-browsed

starts it again. Please tell whether this makes the auto-created printer
go away or whether it changes its behavior to the better or to the
worse.

Another point to investigate is the PPD file (/etc/cups/ppd/.ppd) of the auto-created printer. If it is not present or broken,
the GUI can misbehave. The PPD files are automatically generated based
on information polled from the printer via IPP. The IPP 2.x standards
require that the printer provides sufficient information.

Print queues auto-created by cups-browsed are full-featured CUPS queues
and are present all the time while the printer is turned on and cups-
browsed is running. So they have a PPD file all the time.

Print queues auto-created by CUPS do only temporarily appear. They are
created when a job is printed and they stay only for 1 minute after the
job finishes. These queues are created purely by CUPS, cups-browsed does
not need to be running.

So check the presence of

/etc/cups/ppd/Kyocera_ECOSYS_P6026cdn.ppd

Does it exist? Please attach it.

If it does not exist, run following command:

lp -d Kyocera_ECOSYS_P6026cdn ~/,bashrc

and post the screen output here. Does the job get printed?

Then immediately check the presence of

/etc/cups/ppd/Kyocera_ECOSYS_P6026cdn.ppd

Does it exist? Please attach it.

You can also check by yourself:

sudo cupstestppd /etc/cups/ppd/Kyocera_ECOSYS_P6026cdn.ppd

Does this give any FAILs? Please post the output here.

You can also display the options defined by a printer's PPD file via

lpoptions -p Kyocera_ECOSYS_P6026cdn -l

If the queue is a temporarily auto-created queue from CUPS you most
probably will need to run this command within 1 minute after printing.

You can list queues which CUPS would auto-generate on-demand via

lpstat -e

The queues listed here but not listed by

lpstat -v

are queues which CUPS creates on-demand.

A problem is that the GUIs often do not fully support such temporary,
on-demand queues. Therefore we keep cups-browsed on Ubuntu so that we
get permanent auto-generated queues.

Please also run the following command (printer must be turned on):

driverless

This will give you the printer's IPP URI as output. Please post it here.

ipptool -tv get-printer-attributes-2.0.test > attrs.txt

Replace by the URI you obtained with the "driverless" command and
attach the output file, attrs.txt to this bug report. This is the
information which gets polled from the printer to auto-generate the PPD
file.

Please do not compress and do not package together any of the files we
ask you to attach. Please attch them one-by-one, so that one can easily
read them out of the browser when reading this bug report. Thanks.

[Bug 1772811] Re: different behaviors for switch display mode between xenial and bionic

2019-01-30 Thread Treviño
I can do the cherry-picking, to have this properly fixed in 3.30 though
we need also

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/commit/149e4d69345adab2bfea84a04f88511cbad62fe0

or there's a regression.

So, we need to include this in disco first (fixed in 3.31.4 so far).

[Bug 1812247] Re: ssh-askpass(-gnome) fails for ssh-add -c: agent refused operation

2019-01-30 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
We checked what actually is the backend that the "ssh-add -c" is trying to
reach.
First we thought that should be the ssh-agent spawned for gnome-keyring-daemon
[1]

In PS that is visible as:
1 1000 4029 1 20 0 656132 15860 - SLl ? 0:24
/usr/bin/gnome-keyring-daemon --daemonize --login
0 1000 26372 4029 20 0 11304 3696 - S? 0:00 \_
/usr/bin/ssh-agent -D -a /run/user/1000/keyring/.ssh

Note: there is also another ssh-agent running:
0 1000 4047 4036 20 0 568216 14944 poll_s Sl+ tty2 0:00
\_ /usr/lib/gnome-session/gnome-session-binary --session=ubuntu
1 1000 4146 4047 20 0 11304 320 - Ss ? 0:00
  \_ /usr/bin/ssh-agent /usr/bin/im-launch env GNOME_SHELL_SESSION_MODE=ubuntu
gnome-session --session=ubuntu

That binary is the one of the openssh package that we have proven before to
work fine.:
$ dpkg -S /usr/bin/ssh-agent

openssh-client: /usr/bin/ssh-agent

But it is interesting that it uses
  -a /run/user/1000/keyring/.ssh
But the env var is actually different (no . in the filename):
$ echo $SSH_AUTH_SOCK
  /run/user/1000/keyring/ssh

But look at the ownership of the socket that we found in the env var:

$ sudo lsof +fg /run/user/1000/keyring/ssh
COMMANDPIDUSER FD TYPE FILE-FLAG DEVICE SIZE/OFF
NODE NAME
gnome-key 4029 paelzer 14u unix RW,ND,0x8 0x910ac4316800 0t0
130189 /run/user/1000/keyring/ssh type=STREAM

So while there is a real /usr/bin/ssh-agent running the actual socket
that the env variable points to is actually owned by gnome-keyring
process.

Above we have proven that with a classic ssh-agent it works fine (comment #6).
The bug task for openssh is invalid for now due to that.

Maybe the gnome-keyring backend doesn't even have the -c feature [1] doesn't
list it - then it would be a feature request there.
But in any case we need to re-triage that at gnome-keyring, so that is the
package I'm adding a bug task for.
