[Bug 1824262] [NEW] Inconsistent active window shadows between Server and Client-side decorations in tiled state

2019-04-10 Thread Rip
Public bug reported:

Illustration can be found here:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/issues/553

In tiled state, the active CSD casts a show, while the active server-
side decoration does it. Makes it hard to tell which window is active.

(Not sure if worth fixing, giving the fact that consistent shadows will
never be possible anyway, if CSDs become the norm across toolkits).

[Bug 1809407] Re: [nvidia] Corrupted wallpaper after resuming from sleep

2019-04-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Hmm, actually, if the problem did get worse or more common in 19.04 then
we should use bug 1822179 instead.

Certainly after July [1], Ubuntu 18.10 won't be relevant any more.

[Bug 1824260] [NEW] wrong kerning in SS-5 PDF form fields

2019-04-10 Thread Nathaniel Beaver
Public bug reported:

What I expected to happen:

I am filling out the SS-5 Social Security Administration form (see
attached). I entered "John Jacob Smith" into the "First", "Full Middle
Name", and "Last" fields on page 5.

What happened instead:

I can enter the text without issue, but some of the letters are wrongly
positioned, i.e. the kerning is wrong. For example, the letter "i"
overlaps with the letter "m" in "Smith" (see attached image). It looks
like the font in the fields might be displaying a variable width font
when it is supposed to be a fixed-wdith font.

Discussion:

Since this bug is also present in xpdf and Okular (but not mupdf), I'm
guessing this isn't a bug in Evince itself. However, I am reporting it
here as a courtesy to other users (since Evince is the default PDF
reader) and because I'm not sure which a dependency is responsible. (I'm
also not sure if it's a direct dependency problem or if it's something
else like a fontconfig issue.)

Here is the output for pdffonts ss-5.pdf:

name type encoding emb sub

I asked about this in an Ask Ubuntu question nearly a year ago, but
received no response, so I am reporting a bug now instead:

[Bug 1824283] [NEW] Nautilus progress bar is easily lead users to cancel the running task

2019-04-10 Thread Sean Wang
Public bug reported:

People often check the progress of tasks when they copying or deleting
some large files using the nautilus progress bar. Usually, they would
click a button to close the popped progress bar. The nautilus progress
bar is very easy to lead users to click the cancel task button since
there is only one button on the progress bar which is very like a
closing window button. I suggest it add a confirm message box or change
the cancel task button to other icons.

[Bug 1823778] Re: Unable to set Serbian as Language

2019-04-10 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Accidentally I found one reason why the Serbian language is hidden in
the gnome-control-center GUI. In the add_all_languages() function in
panels/common/cc-language-chooser.c the upstream code includes a call
for gnome_get_all_locales(). That call is replaced by a call for
gnome_get_all_languages() via ubuntu-region-langpack-install.patch. So I
have submitted a MP where I propose that we simply disable ubuntu-
region-langpack-install.patch for now (that feature for installing
languages doesn't work anyway).

I think that the underlying reason why disabling that patch makes a
difference is that the Serbian locale names according to
/usr/share/i18n/SUPPORTED do not include the ".UTF-8" part. However, the
alias "sr_RS.UTF-8" should really be considered valid.

With that patch disabled, two Serbian options show up in gnome-control-
center. The bad news is that both refer to Serbian (Serbia), i.e. the
sr_RS.UTF-8 locale, so you still can't choose the latin option (the
sr_RS.UTF-8@latin locale) from gnome-control-center. (You can choose it
from Language Support.)

Further investigation needed. The remaining problem is most likely
related to the fact that Serbian-Latin (just as Catalan-Valencia) is
represented by a locale with a locale modifier.

[Bug 1822179] Re: Resuming from sleep breaks desktop and lock screen background in GNOME

2019-04-10 Thread Dawn Minion
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1809407 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1809407

Daniel, I don't believe this bug report is a duplicate of the bug you
mentioned. After upgrading from 18.10 to 19.04, I see the same issue
where I have my expected background when I login, and after I resume
from sleep my background is a solid white or black colour. I cannot
change the background if I try via the settings menu.

I do not experience any of the graphical issues mentioned in the bug you
linked. The desktop, browser and applications are totally normal apart
from not having the background I set for my lock screen and desktop.

[Bug 1823722] Re: keyboard shortcuts are displayed not translated

The strings come from mutter and it seems an issue with the template generation
in launchpad, from the build log
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/418511049/buildlog_ubuntu-disco-amd64.mutter_3.32.0-1ubuntu2_BUILDING.txt.gz

The strings from the data/*.xml files are missing from the template (but
are listed upstream and in the .po for the source)

Gunnar, is that maybe something you could have a look to? Do you know if the
file type can be specified for gettext somewhere? (in the POTFILES.in?)

Daniel - I have a tentative budgie specific fix that works on UB 19.04 -
so should in theory work on 18.04 + this version of mutter.

Just trying to get some feedback from budgie upstream at the moment.
Assuming if OK, then will need to SRU to 19.04/18.10 & 18.04

[Bug 1764137] Re: [bionic][beta][nvidia] gnome-shell high CPU utilization when using Nvidia driver

2019-04-10 Thread Mateusz Mikuła
It was long time ago but IIRC after upgrading from Ubuntu 17.10 to 18.04
GDM would try to start on Wayland. With proprietary Nvidia driver it
would then fallback to software rendering haence the CPU usage.

Disabling Wayland in /etc/gdm/custom.conf or doing clean install fixes
the issue.

Interesting...

I tried that, and I noticed that 4 rapid clicks (actually taps on my

Once you've been authenticated, you are able to make changes on the

[Bug 1824157] Re: Regression: Can not copy/paste files from nautilus to terminal (19.04)

2019-04-10 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Please answer these questions:
* Is this reproducible?
* If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?

This will help us to find and resolve the problem.

Would also be something to report upstream on
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus

Ok, so since this is a specific issue, and can be tracked for budgie I
assume we can go back marking this verified and fix for budgie is
coming, right?

[Bug 1824157] [NEW] Regression: Can not copy/paste files from nautilus to terminal

2019-04-10 Thread Zippy Zebu
Public bug reported:

I am using Ubuntu 19.04 beta.

I can not copy/paste nautilus folder/file path in terminal anymore. I
think it's huge regression and should be fixed.

[Bug 574342] Re: GIMP set as default pdf viewer

2019-04-10 Thread Shriramana Sharma
Hello. The file mimeinfo.list apparently overrides mimeinfo.cache which
seems to be recreated upon installing/upgrading packages.

Creating the following file:

[Default Applications]
application/pdf=okularApplication_pdf.desktop

as mimeinfo.list under ~/.local/share/applications/ or /usr/share/applications/
(as per user or global requirements) helped for me.

Source: https://www.ryananddebi.com/2014/09/29/linux-fixing-pdfs-
opening-in-gimp-in-firefoxzotero/ which refers to
https://wiki.debian.org/MIME

I confirm that this works for me on Kubuntu Bionic LTS with latest
updates.

2019-04-10 Thread fossfreedom
Umm... as long as mutter doesnt get released before the budgie SRU!

Probably safer to leave as is until the budgie SRU is agreed.

Note. Havent yet tested on 18 04. Only 19.04
